[To Will] <If it helps I'm sorry I pushed you out of your comfort zone.>
<...A little. But what possessed you to do it in the first place? And if this is the point where you profess your secret undying love for me, allow me to preemptively shoot you down. I'm not gay, I have a girlfriend, and you wouldn't be my type if you were a girl.>

But while that is interesting, perhaps there is an easier way to do this than brute force, at least with the cossacks.  We take out the rebs, which SHOULD make a point to the cossacks that they are no longer wanted in town.
"Or they take the opportunity to try and fill in the power vacuum."

"It was intended as a compliment, sometimes a lack of discipline has it's uses and this is one of them. I have the men to take the safehouse but I need specifics first."
"You are very good at disguising your compliments as insults. Work on that."

"Well for my plan, I want to make a deal with the Cossacks, we need more intel so meeting some is essential and they're all but at war with the other gang but they lack the real guts and firepower to fight them. I'm sure they'll be happy to pay us to do it for them and we need the money. Plus I enjoy the irony of us coming for them later with weapons they paid for."
[/quote]
"Excellent plan."

"Well that depends on the situation, if nothing else major comes up then we finish digging in and start spreading out to the surrounding towns 1 at a time smallest first. Another good job for your lads Blank."
"And when crime returns here? What do we do then?"

"I am setting up a place for my flock to meet and..."
Blank coughs. When he speaks next the lisp and rasp are gone.
"What do you think I need a bleeding church for? I'm making a cult and you don't expect me to have somewhere to meet them?"
"And what will the cult be used for?"

I certainly hope I won't need them all at once.
The thing is, though... we have to look ahead.  Far ahead, into the future.  If this project is successful, I'm sure that at first we will be media darlings.  We will be the ones doing what the government can or won't do, the ones out on the streets fighting crime.
But do you realize what happens next.  One mission is going to be failed, and believe me, it will happen eventually.  ONe mission will fail, and the civilians will pay for it dearly.  Then what do they think of us?  What does the government think of us?

"What do the people think of the cops when they fail one of their 'missions'? The exact same they did before. What's the difference here?"

That's what I needed to know.  So the real question is: do we fortify this base and use it as our central hb, or do we, as I would suggest, spread our forces out in the future and have no central hub, keeping in touch via closed circuit email and other means of communication.
"...Closed circuit email requires a central location, a network that doesn't rely on the worldwide web."

"Distributed command is often lauded, but they overlook the coordination value of centralized command structures. That said, once we start expanding into neighboring towns, only a weak central command is really needed."

Bump.

I've started a game of XCOM and added Sid Meier on a whim. He's been a good soldier, but he came close to being the second casualty of the Project.

Things are going well. I'm not sure if it's because of Sid or because I'm just better at the game, but it seems to be running smoother.
Could be that I'm unconsciously comparing the opening stages of this to the tail end of my first try.

Then why don't you mock Luna nearly as often?
Because she's a side character and Kyle's always in the spotlight?

Who said they needed exhaust ports? They're magitech.
And the original wasn't?
Those thermal exhaust ports have a purpose, you know. Otherwise, the reactors and stuff overheat, and then bad things happen.

<Why am I a lecher? If I like a woman I let her know. For that matter I would do the same with men but... you would think given the face most women in the group are okay with being lesbians and in multipartner relationships the guy would be the same, which isn't true.>
<Ask first next time, you idiot!>
Will considers apologizing for his outburst, but decides that he'd rather hurt Kyle's feelings than risk weakening his point.

Take the boy. Don't worry about the manor.

7764
"Hm. The Rebs seem like a group which can fairly easily be taken out and not expect to reform in any meaningful way, only be replaced by the expansion of some differently-oriented gang. The Cossacks...if they are so violent, one wonders how they manage to keep it quiet."

Been done.

Let's try again.

I swear, one more moon pun and I bring in the Death Star.
But that's no moon!
((Not a moon pun, a Star Wars reference.))

GGRRRAAAAAHH FACE MY FLEET OF REMOTE CONTROLLED SOLID GOLD-PAINTED VIBRANIUM DEATH STARS
...
Dude. Did you stick manhole covers over the thermal exhaust ports? Those are there for a--
*Death Stars explode*

((Slaneesh no! Also I have a feeling Kyle would fit in well with this religion.))
And this is why we mock Kyle.
Part of it.

I think we need to think about the long term of the organization first.  While rooting out crime is our primary job, we need to organize ourselves first."
"How we organize ourselves relies heavily on our overarching plan, our methods. If we decide to bomb the criminals into submission--" Carl's tone of voice indicates that he is not supportive of this idea "--then we'd want to be more like terrorist cells; if we're planning to take them down from within, more inspiration from intelligence organization would be good; and so on."

While that is all well and good, how do we plan on paying their wages.  I know that they respect you, but respect isn't cash in their hands.  We have less than 1000 dollars, and are uncertain of when we will receive any additional funding.
Carl mutters something about the governor being a well-meaning fool.

"I also have a plan to acquire some more money."
"Ominous."

<Yes, though she should have been able to send a signal beforehand.>
<Very true. The more I think about this, the higher the probability of me wanting to smack Maria when this is complete rise. It's about 6-7% right now.>

7769
"What are we doing? What is our overall plan of action to stop these criminals from resurfacing?"

7770
"It's possible."
"It's the only explanation that makes sense, I guess. Still doesn't explain why Maria removed her bracelet though."
"No, it doesn't."

"Why would Maria even remove her bracelet? I'm sure that'll worry Selina sick."
"On one hand, this lets us know she wasn't kidnapped. On the other, she could do that with her bracelet, and it was a gamble to if I would actually find it before someone else moved it or something...could it be some kind of riddle? The chance that I will want to smack Maria at the end of this is estimated at 4%."

<Logically, the only way to remove her bracelet without resulting in any signal would be to remove it so quickly that she has no chance to, unlikely. Or, to make her take it off without sending a signal, more feasible.>
<And, again, she removed it willingly.>

"Are you saying Meme can't be trusted?" Ghost seems amused by this.
"Yes. Better-than-even chances she doesn't trust her, too."
