Forum Games and Roleplaying / Re: [3.5 DnD] A Kobold Story
« on: January 17, 2014, 04:18:17 pm »
Somehow, I think there are better places for a cleric than the front lines. And rogues tend to fare poorly when faced with the brunt of enemy attacks.

8282
"I did not ask you. Why would I call you? You seem to pop up around me to add your two cents at all times anyway, wether I want it or not. I meant the..angry shouting one, whose name I didn't catch((mcclays char))"
1. Well, you might want to be more clear with pronouns.
2. To be fair, he was established as being in that scene before picking you up and whatnot.

"They have killed thousands in defense of humanity, I killed far less in defence of my kind. They have done the very same thing, they took lives that were equal to their own, to make sure not even more lives would be eradicated."
Because the invading aliens wouldn't listen to "Danger! Do Not Enter!" signs posted around Earth.

Quote
"And had humanity been on constant look out for scouts, and shot them down before they turned back to report, who knows, the entire invasion could have been avoided."
From what I recall of what we learned after the invasion, the Layar invasion was due to some Layar being bored and warlike and trying to conquer Earth, which they knew about well in advance. They probably knew about Earth before Earth could send a tin can into space, let alone weapons.

Quote
"So don't give me crap about my cause being evil and cause being noble. Your lives don't value over alien lives either. You defended yourself, and had the right to do so. We are defending ourselves, and have the right to do so. The difference is that you are more successful."
And that we only kill when we need to. And that we don't kill every Layar who comes to our land due to some Layar being destructive. Isn't that right, Tabella?

will has the superior intuition to feel no threat to himself or others in the house
His intuition works based on what he knows. He knows that a murderous, deceitful little person has taken up residence in the house. This little person has espoused a policy of "Kill any Giant we come across! They're all gonna destroy our homes!"

Quote
that being said, wether hainuwele would believe kyle or not would depend on wether he tried to properly explain it, and declare it a misunderstanding.

of course, what IS the proper explanation for just suddenly shoving someone into your mouth?
I'd guess an insanity defense.

the only thing awkward about the slenderman is that when you hug him, your face is all up in his crotch
And when you look at him you--

Quote
apart from that, I hear his hugs are to die for
--yeah, do that.

"Nothing is going. I am sure Will was just about to apologize for so rudely picking me up by my tail and Kyle were just about to apologize for the biting, is that not right?"
"Maybe after you apologize for trying to get Meme to drink beer? And ideally for killing forty people for accidentally wandering into your completely invisible settlement?"

"For the defence of my kind? It is a hard choice we have made, but a necessary one. I might not always stick to the truth, but it is my heartfelt conviction that the right thing was done, and I can not lie about this, not even if it would be to my own defence. If I died how would I stand in front of those who have lost their lives to the giants cruelty? How would I stand in front of my brothers at arms that have given their lives to the defence of our kind. I have sworn to give my beating heart to our defence, I would not betray my pledge just to get an apology for being picked up by the tail. Will can go and do whatever. He doesn't know any better."
"Are you trying to get me to throw you out of the yard? Because I'm very tempted. I know better than killing people just because they wander into an unmarked, invisible settlement. I know that there are other options--sedation, for instance, or physical barriers, or marking where your settlement is with some kind of sign, but nooo, you must KILL the suspicious number of people to come across your settlement. And anyone who complains about your murders is being speciesist." In case it isn't obvious, that last part was sarcastic.

"Now, I think the problem is the good dame claims to have killed fourty people?"
Nancy studies Hainuwele with an enigmatic gaze.
"And that she is completely adamant about it being the only way we cute little people could survive the evil blundering giants who accidentally visit this random little patch of Outback in numbers which are not suspicious at all so don't look into them!"
This last part was said in a mocking high voice. Will must be running low on ways to express his irritation.

"The problem is, that picking me up by the tail, casting aside the humiliation, is dangerous. It can very well tear off, resulting in crippling injury."
"I think I can tell how to pick someone up without ripping off their tail. You're light, your bones and muscles can handle it. And, frankly, you could use a little humility. And by 'little' I mean 'lot'."

Quote
"And that was just in a reaction to me suggesting he should leave Meme to her own devices."
"Should I apply this same logic to everything, and let Meme play with knives, guns, and poison?"

Quote
"This is the problem, this utter disregard, the ignorance, the feeling that anything he can do is entirely alright as it is, just because he is big enough to do it. Would it be alright to pick up Meme by her tail? What about dangling Marie by her tentacles?"
"The difference is, little missy, that you seem to think the whole world revolves around you and your species, and that anything they do to the giants is justified. Anything we do justifies it more, in your mind. I'm sure that if I was nice, you'd consider me subservient and a natural servant to the little folk or something like that--certainly not an equal, deserving of respect.
"In other words: Yes, if it was safe and they deserved it."

Quote
"This is the underlying problem, the additude "she's small, so it's okay". That additude is why we can not dare to let our children into contact with giants. I kill witnesses, as unfortunate as it is, to make sure that people like Will, never set food on our lands. He is the danger that we can not allow into our midst, he and all those who who disregard the small. Our lives and health value as much as a giants, and when it is justice that will wants, then he should start *counting*."
"I value Meme's health, which is why I will not let strangers coerce her into drinking alcohol. And have you considered that killing giants is not the best or only way to get them to not come onto your land?
"And as to your point...well, it's funny you mention that. By the way, does anyone know if Ashley is in town?"

"B-boasting? I merely explained my previous successes to those who believe that my kind can't hold a towel to their overwhelming strength and size."
"A thousand bees can bring down a drunken bear cub. No one denies that there are situations where the little people can defeat the big...but this is not one of them."

"No, have you not been listening at all? I have, the entire time, claimed that they are equal. So we sacrifice few, to save the lives of many."
"And you can't think of any nonlethal methods? Your people are stupid. They deserve to be imprisoned as the murderers they are."

Quote
"We have killed less humans in decades than humans have killed in just a few days."
"Your claims inflate every time you are asked. Moreover, they inflate in opposite, contradictory manners. Why should we believe a word you say?"

Quote
"A single tourist reporting his findings can become the start of an unstoppable wave. People will no longer accidentaly stumble upon us, they will seek us out, out of sheer curiosity.
"But you know what? You will then be protected by law. Anyone who killed a little person would be subject to the sae punishments as those who killed a 'giant'. But no, something like that would be dangerous! Because giants are all idiots who hate little people!"

Quote
And then what? We welcome them, and just wait until one day, because of sheer ignorance for our lives, someone who had a bit of a drink decides it would be fun to kick our houses down? Until a child is bored with the sigh seeing and begins pulling our tails?
"I've noticed something about national parks. They don't let alcohol or unattended children in. Moreover, once more, anyone who did that would be a criminal. Notice how our streets are remarkably empty of dead bodies and destroyed houses? We care about laws."

Quote
Or do we drive them away? Do we raise our blades oppenly against them, and await their retaliation, that would spell our end?
"What does it say about your people that you cannot think of any solution that doesn't involve violence?"

"Moreover, if your secrecy is so important, why did you come here, and why did you tell me, of all people, that your home is in a national park?"
Without waiting for an answer, Will heads inside and begins looking for locations in national parks that have had long strings of unusual deaths, thefts, and other such evidence.

So, Elf, what kind of roll would this be?

Mark the location of the anomaly on some kind of map. Label it as "Really Hot Thing--Global Warming?"

Find another anomaly. Say...#1?

>[The AM] doesn't like people seeing her as anything but the cavalier, apathetic person she normally is. Sitting around exhausted and haggard looking isn't something she wants to do.
(("Haggard" here means "without makeup," right? :P))
((More likely 'without physical form'. Hence why she doesn't like people peering through her clothes, aside from the obvious.))
((The obvious is more than enough.))

8287
Hainuwele also explicitely stated that she has no intention of shedding and blood in this house, or its inhabitants.
1. That is a remarkably malleable statement.
2. Hai has lied multiple times since entering the house. Will has no reason to trust any promise she makes.

Kyle.
Kyle?
For good impressions.
Dood you tried to eat her.
That wasn't his intention, but I don't think Hai would believe him.

8288
Kyle getting tired of waiting bites Will's hand to get him to drop Hai into his waiting hand.
Will yelps in pain and drops Hai on her head.

"You should stop judging things by their size. At the very least, it is a decision Meme has to make, and no one that is bigger than her has the right to deny her. It's not like I am proposing to make her drunk for fun. I was proposing a small sip, to allow her an opinion of her own. She has the right to that, at least. What's the danger? Think she will turn into a raging alcoholic? One sip of that bitter stuff and she will probably stay away from it for the rest of her live, but at least her curiosity is satiated."
"You are not her parent. It is not your place to decide."
"Neither are you. The difference is, I am giving her a choice, and don't try to dominate her just because of size."
"I don't dominate her because of my size. I'm trying to make sure that we don't break any laws here. And I do intend to protect Meme from any kinds of negative decisions."

LET ME KILL IT! THE GLORY OF MY PEOPLE DEPENDS UPON IT!
No! >.<
"Calm down. I am sure he was just about to let me down calmy, is he not?"
"A: Yes, I was, until Kyle bit my hand. B: That's not the problem."

"We should stay in contact regardless. Do you have one of them thelhefones?"
"None in your size. But yes, I have one. And they are called 'telephones'."

That being said, with his super intuition, he *really* should have at least a feeling that he might have been acting too quickly
You can't act too quickly with a potential serial killer around small children.
As opposed to a confessed and active serial killer like Darnos being around multiple children? :P
Yes, because there weren't multiple high-level magicians plus one near omnipotence on her home turf there.
And the children had magic more powerful than Meme's and less impractical than Angel's.

I thought you said that Will was half dragon?
If not then Corebus is just jumping the gun.
That's his girlfriend, Stella. (wolfchild's Stella.)
He has an arm infused with demonic essence, but that seems to have been taken care of.

((Not too, at! And why would the lioness have any better luck with it than Carl?))

8291
It is.

And could you be more specific?

8292
I'm of the tree that Hai is spouting complete bullshit. I mean, she tried to bullshit Chiron, what makes Will think she isn't trying to bullshit him?
1. It still makes sense to call the police just in case. After all, there's a grain of truth in every boast.
2. Will doesn't much like liars.

No, Will claims he has a confession. No records of that exists.
Well, yes, that is an issue. But she did confess.

Also Corebus finally saw Will, this can only end well.
Why is Will involved? Stella, I could see, but Will?

why does everyone think Hainuwele is adorable?

she carries a 5 inch long needle around, and if she can, will go for the eyes. for all intents and purposes, I would absolutely not fuck around with something carrying such a needle without asking for permission first.

seriously

needles and eyeballs

bad combination
Small things are more adorable.
And danger has no part of determining adorableness.

8293
Kyle goes back to Maria's house with a bag of coins. Kyle will try take Hai nack from Will and set her down.
"Will! You never pick things up by their tail!"
"It helps make a point. I'm a bit angry at her at the moment."

"You should stop judging things by their size. At the very least, it is a decision Meme has to make, and no one that is bigger than her has the right to deny her. Hainuwele resists the urge to stab Wills fingers, always trying to remember that she is on a peacefull mission...but he is not making it easy.
((To be fair, she's not making it easy for him to...well, not throw her out or something, what with boasting about killing dozens of people before going on blatant lies.))

Bethany looks out an upstairs window.
"OMG! The little village and little person is like, soooo cute!"
Indeend Child! She is one of the Fair Fo-WYYYYYYYYRRRRRRRRRRRRMMMMMMMMMMMMM!
Bethany's eyes flash golden and her head turns to look at Will.
"WYYYYYYYYYYYRRRRRRRRRRRRMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM! OMG Corebus do you really like, have to do this right now?"
Without breaking eye contact with Hai, Will points at Bethany.
"You had better not be threatening my girlfriend. You'd be lucky if she killed you before I got a chance to ruin you."

"Corebus has like, a thing with wyrms and dragons and lizards and anything with like, scales in general."
"Hm. Well, that would make it more difficult. Still, Corebus, if you lay a hand on Stella, my vengeance will be slow and painful."

It works most of the time. Well, more often than not, at least.
And you really haven't thought through all you could do with telepathy, have you? There's one specific-but-not-obscure application I can think of that would send your power through the roof.

I wonder if Elf will ship Claudia and the random agent.
