Roll To Dodge / Re: Roll to Go Mad: Turn 29 - The Tines of Madness
« on: January 15, 2014, 01:48:57 pm »
((Great, so if my assumptions are correct, then my regeneration is effectively turned off by the mist, possibly refracted onto MY ENEMIES and is also giving away where I am. You realize that my "I'll be fine" thing wasn't a challenge, but an EXPLANATION. I was trying to say that staying in the carriage wasn't completely retarded because a b and c, not "Oh please send things to kill me" :P
((Wow. Just wow.))

Quote
I mean you set us down next to "obviously a trap village" which btw does Cnoc Adh mean Silent Hill? That's hilarious :).
((Yup.))

Quote
Anyway, the village was so obviously a trap that staying in the carriage seemed the only sane thing to do
((OOC, maybe. IC, it seemed sensible to go inside. At least we'd have walls if more demons attacked.))

Continue towards the place. Try to calm down. No punchies.

8402
Wait, where are they? I thought they were in Sydney or Queensland in a suburban area! Not the middle of the outback!
Northdale, Australia.

Which means that little Hai had quite a walk.

8403
>I can, with some difficulty.<
<Neat. Think you could teach me sometime? After I get the kinks out of my Italian.>

8404
"Lightning" seems the likeliest IC name.

Ayup. But I fully intend to see if I can implement/convince someone to implement that stuff later.

8405
"I'm fine with whatever movie. The entire movie collection of my hometown consisted of just one box of DVDs, containing the third season of futurama"
"Do I want to know how your DVD player and television work? Do you have another enslaved giant for that?"
"Our lands are shielded from view with glamour. Ever so often though, adventurous campers come in, and then usualy go missing. Ever so often, they come with entire camping trucks."
"Weren't you claiming earlier that us 'giants,' as you insist on calling us, were but legends and bedtime stories to you?"

"Then you are in luck. Now that I am around to handle things, there won't be much chance of you gaining any fame, little giant."
"I think an adorable catgirl is more marketable than a belligerent mousegirl."

"Then you are in luck. Now that I am around to handle things, there won't be much chance of you gaining any fame, little giant."
"Why I wittle giant? I just wittle wight? And I no gwow so I be wike this forwever." Meme doesn't seem worried about this.
"Hai sees us as giants, and you're smaller than everyone else."

8406
Also I'm sure they would have invited her if they knew where she lived...
They sent letters to the Northdale Five, and mentioned that they could bring along folks like Yuri, Conny, and Rhadamanthys who helped in the Layar War.

Quote
In particular, from your wish, being that in effect it was for a soul and identity of your own, you have gained a magical power over souls, I would guess. A convenient side effect, no?>
This won't end badly.

VENGEANCE FOR ALL THE TIMES YOU TOOK ME LITERALLY GWG
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHI'm sad
Fine, I'll have something attack the interview.

Hmm...
Will could probably do that, yeah. Might as well have him fact-check the spellwork, too, since his superpowers would still apply.
He would need to understand how spells work. And, you know, be able to detect/discern that kind of stuff somehow.

More seriously, for Ester: Has her father gotten himself in some kind of trouble? :p
He abandoned his daughter for having magic, a fact that is being circulated through the Internet thanks to Will. Also, he reported to the police that Ester had been physically abused for her magic.
He's in trouble.
Oh, right. It's baseless slander, but I might be able to work that in. *makes notes*
Only part of it is baseless!
But yeah, Will is good at screwing with people when he really wants to. Information is power, female canines.

oh god, yet another post-to-say-it-all

where to start
Indeed.

To be perfectly fair, your character is absolutely tiny.
And we don't want to be rolling dice every 5 minutes.
To be perfectly fair, my character runs on the same stats as everyone else. Else it would auto-default to a char with just 1 in every physical attribute and I suppose normal mind attributes.
We try to keep things reasonably realistic here. Well, except for the magic, we settle for "usually internally consistent" there.

Quote
The 30 dex is to be interpreted that by comparison to this characters sheer agility, an average human is more or less just a slow and lumbering object, at times moving almost in slow-mo, furthermore henhanced by, for a human, being and incredibly difficult target. It takes the eyes and the movement speed of a speed-oriented magical girl to keep up with that.
Not really.
1. Little creatures aren't that much faster than big ones by default. Small creatures' small legs impede them. Moreover, the reason that flies and such are so good at dodging swatters has more to do with how their brains are wired than the size of any part of them.

Quote
Similar can be said about the aim. Imagine trying to hit a coin. It's a very small, difficult target, while for Hainuwele, it's about as much size as just an average target.
An analogy to a normal human hitting a coin is Hainuwele hitting half a grain of rice, maybe even smaller, depending on the value of the coin.
Yes, no disputes there. However, Hainuwele's canonical size is a "whopping" 4 inches--more the size of a hand than a coin.

Quote
then again, the stats sort of come without referance. What would be the average dex for a normal human being, and how does 30 scale to that? Is 30 prince of persia level, or already going for sonic characters?  I have no clue, but I think 30 is a lot.
30 is certainly above-average.

Quote
Quote
...Very tiny wheat wouldn't work. It would be about the same height as grass, if not smaller, and would most likely be overshadowed--literally--by common grass. Which also grows faster.
That's why you clean the field from non-desired plants, you know, just like in normal agriculture. Get a nice clean field, get rid of dem weeds. If weaponised ebola needles is among the first ideas for a weapon upgrade in this game, then tiny wheat is the least of the problems.
Which actually brings me to another problem: The location of this settlement of tiny people. If they are relatively isolated from big people, and in Australia, they are almost certainly in the Outback. Which is also known as "The part of Australia where we can't find any crops tough enough to grow economically."
And as for ebola...

There's a new PC who is so small that her primary weapon is a needle. We're trying to enhance her weapon to violate as many weapon restrictions as possible. @Elf himself suggested accelerated Ebola.
This is B12. Did you really expect something different?
Yes. I expected magma to be suggested. by now.

30 is however usually fairly fit for a normal human and fast for a magic girl.
Wait, what? You're joking, right? 30 is almost half the points that characters start with gained after training to significantly above their original power. Heck, didn't you just increase the number of skill points people have not too many weeks ago?
FTFY.

a tiny sniper rifle, now that's just silly
...Sillier than a creature with a brain the size of a pea and yet with the same sentience as a human being?
Or magic?

not Moe enough
In what way are syringes moe?

TIIIIMMMEEEESKIIIIPPPP

Everyone who's been invited to the interview is ready to go. Arya's getting ready to drive everyone.
Whoo.
Will is watching Channel 17, technically. He's really just glancing up every few minutes, impatiently waiting for the show to start.
Angel is excited.

I need to go to class in a bit under an hour, at which point I'll be gone for a couple hours but have a bit of time to do stuff after that before my last class of the day. We could RP the drive there and preparation and such.

8408
I have more plans for that Scar. Three, I feel, are complete enough to share bits of.

1. Magic. Spirit Quests to the Scar, and people gain magic. Air, water, electricity, ice. (Because, really, air-water-earth-fire is overdone.)
2. Elemental beasts might not always stay in the Scar. Either someone frees/summons them, or they wander a bit naturally. This folds into...
3. Just because the storms have coalesced into a Scar doesn't mean they lose their property of adding souls of those they kill into the storms. And just imagine what happens when humans/elves/whatever explore the Scar...

8409
Friend Computer! I have discovered several INFRARED concealing a large amount of an unidentified RED clearance fluid inside their bodies. Shall I confiscate it from them?
This citizen's laughter is due to joy at discovering this treason and is not meant in any way to mock the Troubleshooter who made this discovery or anyone else!

Spoiler: Battle map (click to show/hide)

Each hex is five feet across. If you go straight at the enemy, the lines of meeting hexes are five feet also. I know this might be a little wonky, because Hexes can't be five feet across on both, but we're going with it.

You might want to rethink some of your actions, you have a little time before they get close enough to charge. :P
((We get a cheesy--but concrete--tactical advantage from this setup.))

((Remember, you have Rebuke Undead and Command Undead. You can only Command things within a specific level range, IIRC, otherwise you just rebuke them.))
((Same ability, though. If you try to command but they're too strong, they're rebuked.))

"WHAT IS SHINY!?"
Smack, then continue with original plan.

8412
((Doesn't the rapier use your highest skill?
Also, I've incorporated fencing as a secondary element in the Angels. Glad it came up here.))

Strike Seperable Junge with Rapier.

It just sounds like a Bastard Sword for large creatures.
I'd say it's more like longsword:bastard sword::greatsword:fullblade

"At any one time, the cleric may command any number of undead whose total Hit Dice do not exceed his level."
That's potential, over multiple rebukes or individuals.

8414
She then saves her Ubers for Selina.
Ubering an engineer?

((excuse me? that kind of godmodding standard around here? I'll play along, for now, but seriously))
To be perfectly fair, your character is absolutely tiny.
And we don't want to be rolling dice every 5 minutes.

((It would bother most people really, since that would be like having Ashley teleport behind him and floor him without a roll.))
If Ashley was also super-strong, perhaps that would be a good analogy.

((Now you're just over thinking things.))
That's the best kind of thinking!

"Also, I found out I can breast feed her!" Conny seems happy about this.
Someone needs to call the press about this breaking scientific discovery.

((Will was trading insults with the new tiny person who is controlled by Arkroma.
He was more questioning her story.
And it's not trading insults if she doesn't reply. C'mon, Akroma, you can do better!

and a small field where very tiny wheat is planted.
...Very tiny wheat wouldn't work. It would be about the same height as grass, if not smaller, and would most likely be overshadowed--literally--by common grass. Which also grows faster.

iss...that character currently being actively used?

because that kinda ability is kinda essential for a character like that to work
Like what? Small? Don't be silly, there's a lot of other powers like that. Pyromancy, for instance (although that's taken by Angel/Nuriel). Telepathy. Size-changing. Stuff like that. Use your imagination.

Quote
also, what exactly is that other characters power, perhaps both powers can be differentiated enough to not overlap too much
If I'm not mistaken, Elf is referring to Will, who is from the Super Academy world. His power is, to summarize it in a single compound word, super-intuition. Figuring out weaknesses is one of the applications.

Quote
alternatively

I see that almost everyone is running multiple characters, then, should the one with the similar ability be a minor character, I'd kindly request that the minor character should consider altering the power, I mean, with 50+ characters, pretty much all interesting powers are already reserved, but so many of them are just minor side characters
1. Will's a pretty major character. I think he's taken over as my main one ever since Angel got grounded.
2. I highly disagree that there are only 50 interesting powers. I'm thinking here of Worm, which had hundreds of parahumans with distinct powersets, and which kept each one interesting. Sure, a lot are more specific than what we'd be looking for here, but similarly we have a lot more options we could choose from.

Quote
what's wrong with two characters having similar powers. My character is about all the perks of being tiny, going with a stealthy, analytic approach, that requires planning and great care. chances are the other character has an entirely different approach as to what to make of this power
Ah...well, take out "tiny" and replace it with some sarcasm/psychoanalysis/psychological warfare, and you've more or less got it.
Oh, and Will tends to make his plans' details up on the fly, but he does create an outline carefully. (Although that doesn't take much time for him, so...)

excuse me for assuming that the character that the first character on the list, with the relatively long description, that GWG posted as earlier was the main character,
while the character who is just named Will, and has no description besides "will get description when he matters" was the side character.
Different game. Different requirements.
And Angel is my main character, in theory.

Quote
I find slight offense that my entire charconcept gets canceled because people with a dozen characters called upon a similar ability without even making it a full sentence
1. The Slayers guys are gone. Thanks for reminding me to remove them.
2. Power isn't everything, Akroma. I'd say your character's height and background vary much, much more than her power.

I am not sure what you mean "he's better about characters"

like, grammaticaly, I can't discern coherent meaning from that
I have two or three characters, depending on if you count Nuriel as separate from Angel.
Others have half a dozen, or even a full dozen. And don't get me started on folks with summons...

Quote
if that ability is not differentiated enough from "always knows exactly what to do to solve any given problem", then I dont know what
It's not so much that he knows exactly what to do to solve every problem. It's...
Well, I based Will's power off of that of Tattletale from Worm. Your description is more like Contessa.

and man "only" 3 characters?

I mean, 3 characters is alright and all, we do that in our RPGs all the time, for the time when the party inevitably splits up and doing 3-4 solo-rpgs is boring, but playing 3 characters at once in the same scene?

crazy
Most folks have more.

you should consider opening an IRC channel, it would speed up the non-plot parts by 2000%
Two problems.
1. IRC chat can't really be saved.
2. Time zones. I think most of the players are in North America, but Elf is in England and wolfchild is in Australia if I recall correctly. This causes problems, since Elf is the GM and the player of the only characters Stella interacts with much are all usually asleep when wolfchild is awake.
There's a reason we use forums.

because most posts are just single sentences, not even containing actions. an actual chat would support a flowing dialouge, and not stuff like these mega posts that respond to 2 dozen posts at once, many of which are already on a different topic. you knows, time-paradox conversation
That has more to do with the fact that my time is broken up into little fragments.

Quote
also, I would have argued that, since the game seems to have a romance focus (or at least that was my impression so far), it would leave a plattform for action outside the confines of a pg-13 forum. then again, the thread is so huge and fast moving, I reckon Elf could post a long and intricate description of various non-rule conform activities and nobody would ever take notice of it
Well, we've already found a remarkably simple way to deal with it.
"Fade to Black."
There is an infant resulting from such activities already in play. Her name is Elizabeth.

This could be the start of the SenXKyle ship you know. *marks off on Kyle shipping bingo*
If you mean a master servant thing with Sen being dominant, then yes, otherwise Sen refuses.
Eh. Kyle will be able to make Sen see things his way.
Or not. The results should be amusing either way.

...Isn't Gold or Elf running the interview though?
Since I've been the only one contributing to the events the interviews will be discussing...me.

More seriously, for Ester: Has her father gotten himself in some kind of trouble? :p
He abandoned his daughter for having magic, a fact that is being circulated through the Internet thanks to Will. Also, he reported to the police that Ester had been physically abused for her magic.
He's in trouble.

dear god, all those time paradoxes, it's as if you had taken a photoalbum and pasted cuts of your face all over it. Well over 300 posts have been made, many of them almost a whole day ago by now. In that time, the conversation has gone through about 20 different topics. Isn't it enough to say that a character of a player who was away simply went off to do different things, and then hop in back into the thing by adressing just the latest topic?
Not if I can't justify it IC.
Besides, Will's dialogue is fun to write.

Quote
I'll just imagine that will occasionaly snaps out of a coma like trance, his mouth moving so fast that he delivers several hours of conversations within split seconds, like a bursting balloon, until he finaly slows down to an illegible tempo, as his mind finaly catches up with the flow of time
I like the interpretation that Angel has the ability to retcon herself into events better.

...nor does it make much sense that Will just stands there and keeps talking to me like that without me giving an immediate reaction.
You could just say that your character does what most people do and ignores Will.

Quote
Meanwhile in B, Will kept taking offense in Hainuweles existance not being properly explained, and gets more and more agitated at the lack of explanation, to the point where he becomes insulting and appearantly has gained a severe dislike...
Eh, that's nothing too special. He likes needling everyone and doesn't much like liars, plot holes, or fourth-wall-breaking.

(And most people seem to ignore my giant posts anyways. *shrug*)

All I know is a giant Kaiju is apparently attacking halfway through. Unless GWG nerfed it from the source he used it from.
...I wasn't serious. Am I not allowed to make jokes?

dear god, why is everyone everyones alternate personality..
Angel has a demon bound to her. The "alternate personality" is a completely separate being (in theory).
Not!Selina alias Luna was made via accidental mindrape.
I can't think of anyone else with an alternate personality.

So basically you're getting a sword forged by King Arthur, enchanted by someone with millenia of experience to draw on from her family records, and then blessed by GOD HERSELF. :P))
Do we have anyone else we could fit into the mix? Maybe get one of the demons to do something, or have Will sharpen it to an ideal edge, or something?

"Eh, it's very simple route that tugs on very simple heartstrings. Rin's route it's where it's at. Also yes, we have a tiny katawo shoujo. Because reasons"
"And it is identical in every way to our own. Look, ma'am, I'm just not buying your claim of not knowing about big people until you met us. And not just because you're showing knowledge of the world outside of Liliputia, but because we are in the middle of a major city, with smaller settlements around that, and pretty much the only place you could put a bunch of little people and not have them noticed is the Outback, which has enough rangers, crazy campers, and aborigines that you wouldn't be able to avoid seeing them for a whole generation, let alone long enough to put them out of memory and folklore."

"They run on bugs on treadmills and pelicans. Have you never seen flint-stones? That was not a cartoon, it was a documentary."
"There are so many things wrong with that. One: The Flintstones was about normal-sized people. Pterosaurs don't come in millimeter versions. Two: It was set in either the past of a post-apocalyptic future. Three: Hanna-Barbera was making a cartoon. Four: The Flintstones lacked any kind of computer analogue anyways. Five: Bugs and pelicans would be abhorrent at any kind of mechanical stuff. Six: They would only be generating power, not computing anything. Seven: Biological systems are unpredictable enough that any computer made of them would be horribly unreliable. Eight: You still need a display unit."

"Although the image of her people running in gerbil wheels is funny."
"You do have a point there."

"Nah, for electricity, we have a giant that we managed to catch alife and put in irons. Now all he does all day is turn a crank and being fed leftovers. When he gets slow, we whip him."
"Where to start...
"The 'giants' that earlier today you claimed only existed in fairy tales. That you managed to capture, without anyone noticing. Who eats leftovers from meals small enough to easily fit a dozen in the palm of his hand. Who gets whipped whenever malnutrition forces him to stop. Who you have not mentioned any way of getting water for, in the middle of the desert, where he would need enough water to fill a large-to-scale swimming pool of yours every day. Who is not dead."

"He trampled dozens of before we tried to catch him, if that matters."
"Nah. You're starving, whipping, and enslaving him, not to mention kidnapping. Not to mention that I can't imagine a situation where he would be intentionally trampling dozens of you before getting attacked, so I'm thinking you guys either got what you deserved or were very stupid about how to deal with dehydrated giants walking through your secret village."

"We don't use apple products, now that is just ridiculous"
"Actually, saying you scavenged a discarded iPod for your computing system would be the most sensible thing you've said since you got here."

"I am just pulling your leg, our capital city has a hold of 3 laptops, loot from...people who wont need them anymore. Most of out technology is based on loot."
"A society of liars, thieves, and implied murderers. Lovely."

And by now they've segued into playing a video game.

Specifically, Team Fortress 2. Because why not.
Will joins. He is a deadly sniper and an excellent spychecker. He manages to headshot a couple cloaked spies.
He gets called many, many kinds of nasty names before getting booted from the server.
"...Next time, maybe I shouldn't use my power so much."

Hainuwele joins in as well.
As always, taking Sniper, and only Sniper, every round, no matter what. Because Sniper is credit to team.
She does that by going DRR on WASD and using a mouse with one of these trackballs you move with your thumb
At the same time. And also having a free hand to click with.
She gets countersniped a few times by some hacking sniper. I mean seriously, how do you headshot someone with a Huntsman from across the map? For some reason, Will is chuckling whenever this happens.

"You fool, setting ubers on engies!"

Hainuwele opens a vote for a kick for the medic that saves the ubers for the god damned engie.
"Could be worse. She could be on your team. Or healing a spy."

"Th-this may not be m-m-my kind of... um... g-game..." Selina went 4Kills/13Deaths that game, even with her sentry.
And Will managed well over 20 kills and no deaths before he got kicked.

Kyle turns to the small woman. Then he gets up and picks her up before starting to look her up and down.
"Wow, this is interesting. I wonder if your anatomy is any different from a normal persons..."
Kyle seems to have forgotten all laws of basic decency as he examines Hainuwele
"Her brain is much smaller, which has predictable effects on intelligence."

"That's a stupid game anyway.....wa..your face is too close, giant. Unless you want a nose piercing, take 3 steps back."
"Three of your steps or three of ours?"

Kyle grabs the needle from the tiny woman.
"No, no. That's rude and inefficient. I can make you something better. Maybe a laser sword, but I would have to work out the logistics..."
"Smart enough to disarm the woman who threatened him, not smart enough to realize that giving her a better weapon is a bad idea."

"I said I would not spill any blood in this house, but I may yet forget that, and split your lip right open with a nice tug."
"FYI, that's not much of a threat. We have two or three people with healing powers of some sort at all times."

"I'm not adorable, I lead armies and bring giants down!"
"As shown by losing your weapon to one and your backup weapon doing absolutely nothing except annoy."

Kyle tries to quiet her down and when that inevitably fails quickly makes sure no one is looking and takes away her weapons before shoving her in his mouth. Let it be said that while Kyle is a genius he is not good at helping people calm down.
"Kyle. Spit that out. You don't know where it's been."
Also, since she's about four inches/10 centimeters tall, her legs would be dangling out. Just saying.

"So you are resilient against pain, but just how long can you keep this up? I am compressing your internal cartoid artery. A normal human would lose consciousness in just a few minutes, sometimes under a minute, and suffer from severe brain damage due to lack of oxygen shortly thereafter. Open your mouth, release me peacefully, and leave me alone, or I will make you."
"We have healers. And I don't think we could tell the difference if Kyle got severe brain damage."
(Also, Sen had removed Hainu from Kyle's mouth already.)

"This may be the Weirdest Curse Ever, in that case."
"Weirdest curse here, maybe."

"No, Lucas is my babeh now!"
Yes, he says it just like that.
"..."

"If you were to call me that Kyle I would curve your lecherous tendencies very quickly." Sen has a scowl on her face.
"Could you, please?"

[1] Sen got banned from the sixth
"I don't care HOW hungry you are, go to the coffee shop!"

<As I thought... the user is not necessarily powerful, they merely concentrated the fields, we could use Will's help for this...>
<I've been distracted. Could someone give me an overview of what's happening, what we need to find out, and relevant thaumatological properties?>

<Will, how good are you at interrogation or enchantment disruption?>
<Acceptable and depends on the enchantment, but I wouldn't bet on it.>

>If I may, there are several kinds of homunculi. I am assuming she is going for a golem, preferably of paper, yes?<
<On the contrary, a homunculus is a specific type of construct, as are Golems, which are of stone, and shikigami, of paper.>
<Actually, golems were originally clay. Although these days you see golems made out of anything, stone and metal being just some of the most common. Remind me to tell you about the bubble gum golem that attacked my school when I was in 2nd grade.>

Stella starts planning a group outing, thinking that a movie might be a nice way to enjoy a day,

<Hey, who wants to go to a movie later?>
<A bunch of them are being interviewed after lunch, and I'm thinking the rest of us would want to watch. Maybe this evening?>

((And after class I'll catch up on the OOC!
This would have been faster, but I'm rereading Darths & Droids, which is Distracting & D...um...I'll get back to you on that.))
