So, uh, I did a little research, and apparently switching from Braver to anything other than Hunter or Ranger is bad.

Is it really? Or is that just the "pro" players saying that it's bad because the resulting stats aren't crazy high or something? Would I be screwing myself over if I chose Techer or Force as a secondary class?

I had some issues with launching as well, what fixed it for me is running the regular launcher and having it verify all the files are up to date. Not sure if you're having the same problem though.
You were right! I launched the regular launcher once and had no problems. Thanks a bunch!

Finally got around to downloading this. Seems everything is working so far, hopefully I'll be able to log in soon...

Is Braver the only class that uses a bow? Or is "bullet bow" just a term for another kind of gun? I always, always go archer in mmos, and I'd like to know beforehand.

EDIT - Welp, every time I try to run the game through the Tweaker it sends me to a GameGuard page saying "you should reinstall the game." Like heck that's going to happen. Anyone know what my problem is?

Tried to play this game once. Chose sniper, saw an enemy chillin' out on top of the spire of of some fortress or other. Hit him four times with my gun, twice in the head, twice in the chest. He didn't die. Turned to me, fired with his assault rifle for like 1 second from a range I had trouble sniping at, killed me just like that.

In what world is an assault rifle better at doing what a sniper is supposed to do?

Dang it, guys. I stop watching this thread for like a day and look what happens.

... That's not to say I am not amused.

Ha, Chivalry. I played a ton of Archer (because ranged classes are all I play in any game when there's an option) and I found it incredibly annoying how mobile everyone was. Unlike real life, where changing the direction of your momentum is difficult and tiring, you can do it freely in Chivalry without any penalty bar a bit of speed loss. This translates to everyone moving in insanely hard-to-predict zigzags, which makes hitting them in the head with an arrow nigh impossible. When you do score a hit, it's 50% luck.

Tried the melee combat too, and it was pretty cool, but there's not a terribly high skill ceiling. It doesn't matter how skilled you are at the game if 2+ decent players attack you at the same time (since you can't block more than 1 attack), which means the game suffers greatly from ganking syndrome just like every other competitive multiplayer game.

Blade Symphony seems to be trying to avoid things like this by making most of the fights straight up duels, which is probably a good idea. I'm just a bit worried that with limited gameplay styles, it won't be fun for very long.

Eh, I'm in. Long live the Toady.

Other Games / Transistor - The makers of Bastion go sci-fi
« on: May 07, 2014, 06:20:31 pm »
Seeing as how the pre-order is now up on Steam, (it's coming out on the 20th of this month) I feel like this game deserves a page.
Spoiler: Pictures (click to show/hide)

Transistor is Supergiant Games' follow-up to Bastion. Not a sequel of any sort (as far as I've seen) but a separate story about a woman named Red who wields a weapon called the Transistor - the awesome-looking sword in the pictures, as you have probably already gathered.

The game features a strategic combat system that revolves around the ability to stop time and execute a series of actions instantaneously once a recharging bar fills up. The art looks very similar to Bastion, which is a plus in my book, there will be cool voiceovers throughout just as there were in Bastion, and the song in the trailer of the steam page really makes me want to buy it already.

It looks really pretty, and they did a fantastic job with Bastion, so I have real high hopes for this one. What do you guys think?

Thanks for the replies concerning Kerbal. I think I might be able to see its appeal now, what with the many hilarious ways to fail. Glad nobody turned green and started trying to beat my head in for questioning it. :P

Someone is probably going to stab me (or at least get upset at me) for saying this, but why all the hype about Kerbal? I checked out the game, and thought to myself, "Build spaceships, try to get to space, fail over and over... this does not look fun. At all."

What is making it so absurdly popular?

First Force Unleased is cool - lots of cool combos, plenty of ways to combine your abilities, great fun.
The second feels more streamlined and cleaner, but it also makes you feel like there's less you can do. Quite a bit shorter as well.

They're both good action games. Personally, I enjoyed the first one more, but the second isn't bad, either.

I might take that offer, choppy. Depends, though - where do you live? Connectivity can be a bit of an issue with any online multiplayer game. (I'm in Ohio)

Are any of the Star Wars games worth grabbing?

Definitely one of those "don't judge a book by its cover" types of games. I took a brief look at it and immediately wrote it off as a crappy platformer that probably had terrible gameplay, but then, after looking a bit closer, found that it actually had a lot of promise. Felt bad for judging it so quickly.

I'd love a chance to win a copy.

Mystery Dungeon was great, except for the fact that you have to play through the entire long-as-hell story mode before you can switch your leader and partner around or evolve....
