DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Re: When did the new update hit YOU?

When I got so sick of vampires I pined for a real night freak to fight, then found a shack out in the middle of no-where filled with 30 of them.

I don't like boogeymen as a feature, it feels slapped on and inconsistent.
I agree; I like the intent, to make the night dangerous and spooky (and fun,) but it seems kind of contrived. It's probably just a placeholder until something more grounded in the setting is fleshed out.

Looks like something is wrong to me. Here's how you fix it: set your combat preference to 'Dodge Away', climb to the top of the kobold's cave, and have fun.

That sounds pretty cool. I read about the evil weather in fortress mode; it appears on occasion only in evil biomes. I haven't been to one yet since genning for this version, but now I think I'll browse Legends and find one to visit.

sell all the scattered coins to a trader. At he small loss, he'll make a fresh stack out of it
But that isn't what I did, and I'd like to replicate that because it would be useful for other things such as ammo and food.

Do any werebeast forms have wings, and if so, can you actually fly with them? I mean in vanilla DF.

That's not as much !Fun! as it sounds like -- you're more likely to find hours and hours of tedium and frustration. The bottom cavern layer is incredibly boring for adventurers. If you ever do find the special weapon, it's still not as special as most the things you can make in fortress mode.

Gust Bedjuggler. I never met him, but he appears to be a popular subject of sculpture. Bone sculpture, if you know what I mean.

Rope reed fiber annoys me. I don't know why, I just have this irrational revulsion to it. If I have to wear it, I'll trade it out as soon as possible, even for something lower quality. I'd rather wear pig leather.

I'd added to the wiki that triggering traps in Tombs will wake the mummy, even if you dodge, he'll home right in on you. I wasn't sure this was the case for catacombs. I went exploring under the temple of a strange city and failed to dodge a trap. I managed to dodge a second trap and fell unconscious on the tile right next to it. When I came to, a mummy was telling me "You feel horrible" -- imagine so, I'm passed out on a dusty floor, bleeding from chipped bones in both heels, the only thing that could be worse is for a decrepit smartass to tear me limb from limb. And so he did.

EDIT: I looked at the place again and saw the trapped room, aptly named 'The Crazy Room', was right next to his coffin. When I triggered traps in the catacombs under the adjoining Keep, that didn't wake him. So I guess it's all about the range; since most tomb traps are in a close range around the coffin, they're very likely to disturb a mummy, but unlikely to disturb the mummy in the next tomb.

Not being able to move diagonally (as far as I've been able to discover)
Numpad! My last laptop didn't have one, so I mapped all the movement keys around WASD. I was just learning the game, and this made all advice about controls confused to uselessness...

In adventurer mode, I managed somehow to consolidate handfuls of scattered coins into a single stack. How do that I that again?

Retired the last adventurer; it was about time, since he was already getting engraved in temples hundreds of years old, and the werecurse screwed his speed badly. So it's back to tedious sneaking/swimming/throwing sharpened rocks. My first quest is a vampire with over 2000 kills, so that's just going to stay undone for awhile. I started way out in the desert steppes with no wildlife that even the Crocodile Hunter would mess with. There's stingrays, and we saw how well Steve got along with them. Fortunately I noticed that at least one home in every town has a pouch of plant foods in the corner, and no one objects if I take as many as I like. But...I'm bored of fisher berries already, the kind of boredom that gets green adventurers killed.

I would guess dwarves have the biological predispositors toward gaining mass at a higher ratio to strength, but not necessarily 1:1, only modern weight training does that. Most physical exercise a dwarf or adventurer would do would build strength faster than bulk.

There's probably a similar bug with werebeast form. When my char became werecoyote, speed dropped along with agility, then phys traits redeveloped quickly, speed a little more slowly. On returning back to normal form and original stats, I was still down 600 speed, probably because due to increased muscle mass which wasn't removed with the strength increase.
