DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Re: What is there to-do?

See this page: http://www.bay12games.com/dwarves/dev_single.html for a whole list of things you can't yet do. Having families in adventurer mode is on that list.

Until then, you make your own objectives and challenges, and hopefully get good enough at surviving to handle the new challenges that will be released.

So how would I edit the raws for a curse removal? Modifying anything in the interaction_examples folder for that save doesn't seem to affect the loaded game.

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Re: Are carving knives bugged?

I found a silver boning knife useful for extending the battle just to develop skill, but a masterwork sharpened rock is a better weapon. It's much easier to find a good quality shortsword, at least this version.

Whips in DF don't really behave like whips in real life.  They deal blunt damage with a tiny contact area and an insanely high velocity, which means they behave more like tiny supersonic hammers (I.E., bullets).
That's what whips are, the cracking noise is the sound of breaking the speed barrier. It's not the whip that deals the damage, it's the sonic boom around the popper. At least for leather whips -- combat whips made of metal don't break the sound barrier, but can cut through engine blocks.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Wall off edge of embark site?

How about a moat instead of a wall? You could fill it with whatever; magma, water, crocodiles, etc; and shoot across it. I tried this with a doomed embark but didn't finish before the tantrum spiral.

Suppose I was willing to cheat to remove it? Adding an END in the raws won't change a current affect, and there's no REMOVE_SYNDROME token. How would I identify it with CE_REMOVE_TAG?

I got Observer to Legendary thanks to those traps, and many weapon skills trained thanks to the zombies. Unfortunately, I also got a nasty curse. I don't recall any worthwhile loot, but I may have picked up one of my weapons from a tomb.

Is it really that? I get no message about it at all. How long is this curse supposed to last?

EDIT: From the raws:
[CE_SKILL_ROLL_ADJUST:PERC:0:PERC_ON:20:START:0]

So this means there's a 20% chance for all skill rolls to reduce to zero? That would explain why skills that don't roll, like armor use and swimming, aren't affected. I don't see anything about a duration, but it always lasts about 20-30 turns, then skill use goes back to normal.

So how would I get this removed?

I don't know if this is a bug or a lingering effect of mummy curses, but very often I'd get a streak of complete failures to all skills -- I get detected sneaking, miss all attacks and shield isn't used. If I wander around it will pass and skills will work normally, but for about a minute my adventurer is completely helpless.

How empty is this city? There's no sewer. Apparently it's been a ruin since before sewage was invented. Lack of poop probably collapsed the civilization. I'll ask the ravens and they'll say, "Don't ask us, we don't fucking talk, you stupid elf!"

For the first time ever, I found an empty marketplace.  Empty except for loads of empty wooden bins and barrels. That in itself is a treasure trove for a fortress, but an adventurer has nothing to do here.

I carry vampire blood around for emergencys, like almost being dehydrated or starveing to death or mabye i need to attack a tougher person. I think of the blood as...medicine.
That's friggin brilliant. Good plan, man.

Finally got across all this wilderness to civilization! Yay, warm baths, fresh clothes, cooked food! Except that it was full of empty. The buildings were so abandoned they didn't even have roofs, and the city fortress didn't even have a crime boss under it. I visited where the temple should be and found nothing but a sand lot. Oh well, there's an encampment nearby, maybe I can find some apocalypse survivors to brag to. I went over to talk to them.

I recognized the warlord as the son of a bitch who sent me to those trolls in the first place. My first impulse was to strangle him. I let my rational nature prevail, since it appears the vampires rule the world, the living should look out for each other. On the other hand, the bastard is wearing fresh clothes while mine are rotting off my body. So fuck him. I let him have the business end of the axe, made him as famous as 30 trolls, and took his goddamn socks.

Oh, holy shit. I was not prepared for this.

I was only approaching the freakshack when I heard the calls to battle from...four, six, eight, nine, ten, then more, a hell of a lot more than the eight I was promised. So I started to work on them, and managed to decapitate two in one shot before I was detected. There's no way I could find cover against that many, not without running further away than I want to, so I weaved around the trees and lured them in one by one, doing some pretty swift execution for the little axe skill I had. It was working out well enough that I didn't even bother to sneak, and just hacked away, going for the headshots and getting them if not immediately then eventually.

When I finally found no one chasing me, I walked around counting heads, all of which were cleanly separate from the bodies, I found 13. That warlord bastard lied to me! Now I regret letting the treacherous spunkwad live when he was in arm's reach. Oh well. I was getting drowsy, so I headed inside for sleep first, then inventory the no doubt bountiful loot in the morning.

As soon as the door opened, another pack of night trolls were telling me how awesome they were. I backed away, and this time I went for the stealth. Again, I only got two before they detected me, and I had to lure them out one at a time, at least another 6 but by that point I stopped counting.  When there was a handful left inside -- again, I stopped counting, so that might be a handful for someone who has seven or eight fingers -- I was able to gradually whack them stealthily.

If any adventurer deserves a rest after evicting all those trolls...but instead of sleeping, I circled around to survey the site and memorize the layout. And yet another night troll came at me, a bride of someone whose marriage was probably annulled by the sharp end of an axe. I counseled her to get over it with the same axe.

I still haven't looked at the loot or bodies, but my axe has a headcount of 30 kills, all of them night trolls. See for yourself:

I got so sick of vampires I finally took the titan quests that have been on my list for ages. But trekking hundreds of miles of endless open nothing, getting my ass chewed on by bogeymen every night, makes me miss sewer stomping. So an ambush is a windfall, a nice break from the monotony.

The warlord wasn't immediately hostile so I was able to talk to him and ask what the fuck is there to do around here?! Well, there's night trolls over yonder, he says. Night trolls? They're in this world? Fine, I'll take it! It's a family of 8, he says. So a commune of freaks, probably as bored as I am out in the middle of nowhere. I'd hate to bust up their wife-swapping cannibalism party, but I have an axe that hasn't tasted flesh yet, so let's go gatecrash this orgy!

To put it another way, I'm dating werebeasts to find a wereform I want to go steady with. Unfortunately the last one was a weregopher. After it's introductory boast, it just sat there. I came out of hiding and waited, and it did nothing. I waited more and it did nothing. I ran circles around it and it did nothing. I whacked it once with a shortsword and it never did nothing again.

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Re: Safe from Bogeymen

Ok, now I'm  sure. I had to trek through vast expanses of Good forests with no shelter, and not once did Boogeymen attack while I was sleeping. In neutral jungles next to it, they attacked every single night.
