And now I wonder how kobolds taste. Maybe a bit like gator.

Dwarves and goblins probably taste pretty heinous. The smell would put me off before I could ever take a bite. Uncooked, that is.

I'm in the final stretch of my waterworks. The pumpstack is complete, filling the interior wells and supplying mill power. The pumps were done in green glass, with a dacite block casing. From the top water will split between the dead man's drop, giving me the option of drowning or obsidian-casting trapped invaders, and an aqueduct that will flow to the surface farm, replacing the well with flowing water, perhaps fishable. Everything on the surface is being constructed from marble block.

And in the other direction, the obsidian highway has been dug as deep as it's going until I can send an expedition team down. Seven dwarves, just like an embark team, only more skilled, stronger, and better equipped. They'll need it, since there are already three beasts lurking down there, as well as giant cave spiders. Oddly, there's no vegetation at all, so they'll be without lumber or foraging. When they scratch out a settlement, then the road will follow accordingly.

To be honest, I don't much care for them even when I'm playing an elf. But adventurers of all types are in a class by themselves -- a class of sociopathic greed.

Yeah, remember the days before 'The Information Superhighway' and 'Al Gore invented the internet'. When the net really was an international community. That all changed pretty soon after AoL started actually providing internet access, instead of keeping their dipshits confined to a big BBS with a UI designed for pre-pubescents.

I let mine fight a troll with their training weapons. They put the pain on him pretty quick, but no real damage. It lasted quite awhile, until he escaped into the courtyard and got drawn and quartered by the war animals.

AOL is the most common one for Americans, right?

Who knows, maybe one day I'll find a use for it...  If anything it would be good throwing ammo for an adventurer.
Knapping, at best, still sucks. It does increase analytics, which applies to absolutely nothing in the game, but at least you can know in your heart that your adventurer isn't a complete moron.

I've minted geniune 1089 Lor Zalis coins in all denominations. An economy failed to ensue, but I'm not disappointed about that -- it's just cool having coinage.

If you could order your dwarves to sheath weapons and shieldbash, then sword/shield is all they'd need. Whips are no doubt killer, but you don't get much quality control. Spears are quite the life-saver against the fleshy beasts, though.

For the human prickishness/smuggery ... if you haven't encountered it in RL, then you apparently were not sufficiently different from those around you.  Trust me, humans typically (though not always consciously) follow the "its different! kill it!" mentality.  Individuals may not, but as a whole, that is a pretty accurate description.  (Oh, and humans aren't the only species on the planet that behaves that way ;)).
Ohyeah, army brat here, and any school that wasn't run by the DoD, and therefore fully attended by other army brats, I had to fight someone for respect. The hick towns in particular had that xenophobia -- one school I was blamed for killing a dozen people in a trailer park with a hurricane, using satanic rituals.

Not modded, but there were a lot of irregularities with this world, so more buginess wouldn't surprise me. Goblins and humans were devouring, too.

Ya, there are some rare fantasies where the elves are decent.
Human prickishness seems a lot more widespread in fiction than I encounter irl, so I suppose if there were rl elves, they wouldn't be as insufferable as the worst depictions make them out to be. A lot of the 'smug asshole' archetype came out of Tolkien, where elves really weren't that different from dwarves, and the Ainur and Maiar were the Ur-role models of smug prickery.

No, and if you look through legends you'll see reports of the Elves eating their enemies.
I've seen Legend reports of dwarves 'devouring' their kills, too.

If you have any kind of clothing industry, loads of rope reed will protect it from the hospital's hoarding.

*This statement is based solely upon my personal experiences with reading fantasy novels set in a myriad of different worlds, it seems where there are dwarves, they don't like elves.  The dwarves may put up with them for trade, but that is only because dwarves are greedy.
Invoked trope, then?

You assume a great deal here.
You support my assumptions. You interpret from very little exactly the kind of qualities that justify your hatred. Sort of like the 'cannibalism' claims without any witness to what actually happened -- "Oh, the atrocity of their corpse-eating ways! Vile, unforgivable it is! Unless we get to do it, too, then it's hella cool!"

Exactly, a large portion of the playerbase gets gratification from engaging in the knee-jerk wrath-mongering. They don't have or need a reason.

If I pick a fight with them, will they ever sue for peace, or will it mean perpetual war? I don't have anything against them, I just find that humiliating a civ in battle makes for better trade relations. And they in particular may adopt more respectful language when requesting our assistance in wildlife preservation.
