Dear Count ShitForBrains,

Only 1 barrel of dwarven ale out of 40 is in the room with the rotting, stinking, burning carcass, in the room absolutely furthest away from your suite, which has a barrel of dwarven ale parked for convenience. So...you just had to bring your guest the human law-giver all the way down there?

And Mr. Clearbowels, with a name like that you're probably still getting over the cruelty of grade school, so I don't need to give you any more hell.

I issue guards one of every type of training weapon, plus a bone crossbow with bolts only to be used for training. Their weapon skills advance extremely slowly this way, but if they do see some real enough progress to graduate to a combat unit, I have more flexibility in which weapon to outfit them with.

It's possible there are already gay dwarves, that might explain the ones with no spouse or identified lover after so many years. But I don't ask, and they don't tell, and that suits us fine.

Since when do they not take bone? I could swear I've given/sold them totems and bone crossbows.

Hell yeah. My alpha squad, the Blockaded Spears, accumulated the most speardwarves by coincidence rather than by design. They've accumulated most the glory as well.

Hm, "disarming" she said. If this ever gets an accurate re-balance, it should still be good for that.

« on: November 05, 2010, 12:41:15 pm »
I've finished and activated the final levels of the pump, leaving the apex hatch sealed, and water levels still aren't rising. It looks safe, and the mill room isn't getting more than 1/7 of water, but I would have liked the wells to fill a couple levels more at least.

Looks safe, but it's a tad unnerving that it's not matching up with any pressure predictions.

Hey, knucklehead

You could be doing something fruitful instead of digging yourself out of the walls you yourself built. Again.

I wonder at what point of total immolation the lack of oxygen becomes a problem. The elephant suffocated with no futher deaths, though the loss of two barrels of sunshine is a shame. I forbid the corpse, though it's probably good eating, and every door leading to it until the flames die down.

Obsidian production is salvageable, with time and effort, time and effort that will yield more obsidian. I really need more quantity controls on those magma and water outputs; the shaft was built to contain 10 levels of fluids but I didn't expect it to be fully filled this time.

Meanwhile, a fire man got loose while I was distracted. Found his head separated from his body in the magma channel, so that's taken care of. One war dog and a giant leopard dead, and a long trail of smoke leads to an elephant on fire. Spraying blood and burning. I couldn't pick him out of the pit list; I guess killing a fire man doesn't rate you a name; so I had all war elephants thrown into the indoor pool. A nurse burned up trying to lead him to water, along with her baby. O hell.

So all I can do is watch and hope he enters a room I can forbid the door on. No other flaming screaming deaths for now, but all it takes is for him to wander across the more crowded pathways and someone will eventually share a tile with him and become a walking torch.

EDIT: Huh. I guess I should expect that alcohol is combustible. I just saw a barrel of sunshine explode out of the still this elephant was hanging around, and amazingly no one was injured.

Datan Stukosrodem Tosidstakud Kulet, Leatherworker, has created a Ram Nilum, forgotten beast backpack!

Well...okay.

One of my homegrown Macelords, a Leatherworker, struck with a mood! I don't have a legendary for leather yet, and the girl's already got some insanely high attributes, mighty, indefatiguable, and very agile, and Datan Razorpelt the Armored Machine of the Abyss is a name that can't get enough fame. So let's see what happens.

First thing I did was unforbid the forgotten beast leather and forbid all others because this is exactly what I had it reserved for. Hm, how much do I want to exploit this? Ready for a savescum if necessary -- you can make hundreds of masterwork forgotten beast meals and hundreds of masterwork forgotten beast bone bolts, but you only get one skull and one hide -- I tracked her every move to and from the workshop.

She next picked up tiger shark leather -- very cool, that was my first choice until I saw the FB skin waiting in stock. Then she collected bars of electrum; I think I would've preferred black bronze for the coolness quotient, but electrum is very nice. In fact it's the bedrock of our city, we really owe our success to the export of it, so it should be commemorated in every artifact possible. Well, that and magma.

Now the crystal opal -- very pretty, excellent value, and there's still plenty more sitting in the jeweler's shop. Ah, more electrum -- look there's black bronze just sitting there, and what could be cooler than tigershark leather studded in black bronze? Less value, but I think the tradeoff for a badassed aesthetic is well worth it. Oh well, I let it go. Rough sunstone next, fresh out of the rock this season, and she walked a looong way for that.

Caverns collapsing, blah blah, that's magma falling into water in a contained shaft, don't bug me. Dipshit masons starving in the walls they built -- goddamn it, I'm watching history unfold, can't you finish your fucking work without the handholding? Dogs and farmers bleed to death from FB puddles -- alright, there's coffins to go around for both, just let me see this artifact finished!

When she went for the electrum yet again, that's when I had to take action. That black bronze is going into this artifact, dammit! I forbid every metal bar but the black bronze, and she tracked it down without incident. It so happens that she likes black bronze, so I regret not having more of it. More electrum after that; it's turning out to be a lot of metal for a leatherwork. Another long trek for sunstone -- hadn't even started the cutters working on those, so take 'em.

Now marble blocks -- Strifebust has more then enough marble to unrestrict it long ago, and it's very symbolic as the backbone of our steel industry. Hey, moody Macelord coming through, if you don't want a war elephant thrown at you by the tusk, clear a goddamn path! Then there's the backbones of the goblins, but those get burned up in magma or carved into crossbow bolts...is that the obsidian factory overflowing? Ah, masons, did you make sure to do everything the hard way? Fukkit, I've got an artifact to witness, I'll deal with it later.

The mysterious contruction begins!

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: take THAT demons
« on: November 04, 2010, 09:46:05 am »
If it's a floor grate, it'll work. Destroyers still can't destroy anything above them, so a forbidden or linked hatch would work, too.

I believe they can still teleport directly to the surface though. Correct me if I'm wrong, maybe that's just demon lords, when you open a fortress.

Well done spading, well done. Statistical spading isn't my favorite kind, so I can't blame you for not giving us a spreadsheet of the full hundred trials. What you did get was enlightening, thank you.
