Well, you can't dig or build one tile from the edge so
You have to keep more than just 1 tile distance from the edge in concerns of building. However, I suppose you could cast an obsidian wall around the map edge.

I suppose that the invaders and migrants will then spawn on top of that obsidian wall.

Or just use drawbridges.

Had to restart after falling off the edge of the world in Oblivion.

I ran forward for about half an hour and then found I was swimming in nothing.
It was going so damn well too.

I suggest Deon's Genesis. It comes with a graphical version and an Ascii version. It's also fully prepacked, so there's no need to fiddle with the raw files.
