Currently stuck in a catch 22 situation where I want to terraform a planet, but the current population won't work in the terraforming installations because the planet isn't terraformed enough, so they're all working in agriculture rather than manufacturing.

Okay, so I really want to get into this game, but I am having a hard time. Between the interface and all the places to go and no clue what to do, I feel lost. Is there any sort of beginner's guide or anything (other than the in-game tutorial that does little more than teach the keystrokes) that I could read? Or any general tips on where to go when you start a game?


1 Head to Vernis
2 Get your Pet
3 Look on the job board for some escort/delivery jobs
4 Head to Palmia or Yowyn
5a Head tot he Truce ground and pick a god
5b Repeat 3
6a Head to Puppy cave and try to rescue Poppy
6b Head to Lesimas floor 3 and trigger the main story
6c Bandit Hideout Quest in Vernis
6d Gene Engineer Quest in Port Kapul
7 Repeat 3 in Port Kapul, Derphy, and Lumiest
8 Visit Noyel
9 Slime quest in Vernis
10a Make money, by doing 3 wherever you can
10b Clear randomly generated dungeons around the world

By now you should do whatever you feel like.

The game I'm looking forward to most in 2012 (besides DF) and it doesn't even have it's own thread.

First character will probably be a Slyvari Engineer because who says salad can't use guns?

Holy crap do I suck at this game.. I'd have an easier time at wrestling a fully grown dragon with a dozen unskilled dwarves than trying to hit anyone in this game.  O.o

/can't lead the target when the target is moving at 110 km/h

He thinks 110 km/h is fast.

I'm not on the right OS to check right now, but up at the top left there's a little dropdown box for "previous missile design" or something similar.  It's right above the weight boxes.

Oh I thought you meant there was a literal button.
I've already been using that dropdown list to pull up old missles, and create new ones with an incremented ID number.

They have to be redesigned.  There's a button for "use MSP of X missile" so you can quickly choose your staple missile, update it with new tech, and start producing.  But most likely you'll want to tweak it a little to adjust for tech changes, like lowering the warhead size to keep the same firepower, and increasing agility instead.  One person had the goal of keeping their warhead power at 4, range at like 50m km, and then upon research to adjust for agility and engine for higher hit rate.  The effect is quite remarkable, to have a size 6 missile that gets like 150% hit against 10,000 km/s targets at later tech!  Point defense becomes moot when your missiles move about the speed of light.

I don't see that button anywhere on the missile design menu.



And now I have to send a ship to unload and replace all the ordinance on my missile defense satellites. Oh joy.

Are missiles upgraded automatically when new missile tech is researched?
Or do you have to redesign each missile and manufacture the new type.

That sounds like swarm not invaders. Invaders won't be a pushover unless you have a colossal tech advantage. And they don't use mesons.

How do you guys deal with the MASSIVE slowdown that occurs when 2 NPRs fight each other?

I've been on auto increments for almost 2 hours now and thousands of 5 second increments have passed and the NPRs are STILL at it.
Most fights don't last nearly that long. You either need to suck it up or use Developer Mode and destroy the offending vessels.

I just destroyed the attacking invader ships

Looks like most of their ships were armed with very few numbers of mesons and mesons only, and were simply evading everything thrown at them while doing terribly low damage.

I am very disappointed in you invaders.

A ship I was designing literally 5 minutes ago got locked without me pressing the lock button. And the option for unlocking is greyed out.
No ships of that class exists yet.
No shipyard is tooled for that class.
I didn't finish adding parts.

Using the new armor bug to try and bypass the lock isn't working.

Enter SM mode, there should then be a button to unlock it.

Abandoned that 50 years old game for various reason, but I'll try this next time it happens

Now is there any way to add asteroids and new bodies in SM mode? And edit bodies (gravity, orbital distance etc)
