General Discussion / Re: Ethical Dilemmas: The Water of Life
« on: July 07, 2011, 05:09:30 pm »
You only get caught if you do it where someone sees you, or you leave something on the crime scene (for example finger prints.)

You are in a remote location = no witnesses. Wear gloves and don't leave any stuff on the crime scene. Voilá, you are one wallet richer.

Except people have that fear of capture, even a fear of damnation, fear of being stabbed in a retribution killing, engrained into them by society and if there is no need for that wallet, if they are not so desperate for money then there is very little need, not enough need to overcome that fear.

Sure, but if person does not have that fear (say, the person is mentally sick and has no feelings) would it make his act moral, because it only brings benefit to him?

Let's see the likely chain of events there:
I stab you in lonely place. -> I flee with your wallet. -> Some time passes. -> I hear knocking at the door. -> Oh crap police! -> I go jail.

Ethics and morality only exist so long as the people benefit from following them. There's no benefit from dying, put life on the line and ethics and morality should be the very first thing you throw out.

There's also no benefit in leaving you alive instead of killing you and taking your wallet, if some random guy walks past you on a lonely place. A lot of people still wouldn't do it.

Life Advice / Re: Being the only computer literate person around
« on: July 07, 2011, 09:08:31 am »
Why it's better to pretend you don't know anything about computers.

Way too often I am asked to fix something or help using some program and then when I cannot fix it or don't know how to use the program I get complaints how "I didn't even try."

I'm crying in pain from the mere thought of my computer trying to run it.

EDIT: And when I visited on the english-info page, my computer got a severe lagspike, and I had to reboot it...  ???

Then why it isn't 0/10?

I have seen you before; 4/10

Fallout-guy-avatar-guy?

I've seen you around to a lesser extent than you have seen Elfeater... 3/10

But then your followers, lost without your guidance, splinter and break away. And you are forgotten, never to be remembered again.
Nope:
If you do not, they will execute you on television instead to try and demoralize the resistance. Given that they know that you could die at any point, this would be far less harmful to the resistance, and likely will not save the government.

Threw a cigarette pack to lure enemy towards me, drugged him unconscious and tried to tie him up. Enemy saw me, shouted and I was full of holes.

Seen 22 of them (and one only in comic form) and three are currently on my to-watch list.

Other Games / Re: Real survival games?
« on: July 05, 2011, 11:50:03 pm »
I do not see how DF is a 'real' survival game while apparently minecraft is not.

In Minecraft you can entomb yourself in rock and let the game run forever without dieing. That seems to lack some survival aspects.

In DF you can make a small underground farm and a well in your fort, leave one Urist McFarmer inside, seal the entrance and let the game run forever until Urist McFarmer gets mood.

I do agree with Minecraft not being survival game though.
