Two is better then one.

Just remember dwarfs are pretty hardcore some times.

I atom smashed a goblin leader in an earlier fort. The attack stopped for like a year or two but then came back more fierce then before.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Can a map be rotated?
« on: December 06, 2010, 02:41:49 am »
Step 1. Manually edit you favorite tile set so each tile is rotated (Don't rotate the entire image just each tile individually)
Step 2. CTRL + ALT + Arrow key will rotate your screen for you (Yay)
Step 3. Laugh as your dwarfs walk sideways

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: What triggers the "Give Water" job?
« on: December 06, 2010, 02:37:31 am »
Locked off my booze storage, ceased my beer making operations and locked three dwarfs away from water.
After they started to get really thirsty my dwarfs were rushing to get the water, also notable is they get some sick thrill out of the experience. "Got to choose between life and death, sure i gave him water this time but next time, you never know."

But seriously there is nothing worse the water, always have 5-10 times as much booze as you need keeping in groups of 50 barrels isolated from each other by a moat filled with magma and draw bridges that require three random unmarked  levers located randomly around the fortress to be activated.  I like to keep a highly trained dwarf guarding the booze fortress at all times. When i comes to booze cage traps are for little girls, weapon traps are for even littler more pathetic girls and stone traps are just lol. Magma falling from the ceiling and war dogs coming from the walls is still a little weak but i'm a pretty relaxed guy, so eh.

The wagon can cause interference as it acts as a meeting area.

1. Put in cages outside.
2. Link to traps
3. Wait for elves to come.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: How do you make an archery target?
« on: December 02, 2010, 04:33:52 am »
One made select the target with "q" Assign your squad(s) to train with it using "t" and set shooting direction with WASD. I also recommend digging two channels either side to collect all missed shots (To reuse ammo)

DF Gameplay Questions / What to do with my vegetables?
« on: November 15, 2010, 05:58:50 am »
I've already tried the game won't let me eat them :S

Currently i have three Ex-soldiers who in the line of combat at various stages lost legs, severed motor nerves or a variety of both.
As is they are taking up three beds in my hospital constantly requiring food and water (I have a large reservoir in my fortress water is no problem) My dwarfs seem to enjoy giving them water but that seems to be the only plus and apparently dwarven women totally dig guys that can't move as they all seem to be married and with a large supply of friends. After a few years I've given up any chance of them healing (Can dwarfs grow backs legs?) so eh. Kind of weighing up brutally murdering them or just letting them enjoy the free ride.
Decisions, decision, decisions.

Hey, Geneva convention dictates you must care for your prisoners humanly. It is not nice to make your prisoners have to carry around all their valuable armor and weapons. You can "Relive" them of this burden in a few steps
Step 1. Create a dump ("i') next to the cage. One square works fine (Can be any distance 1 square is fastest).
Step 2. d+b+c (Claim items) drag this over the cage
Step 3. d+b+d (Dump items) Drag over.
Step 4. With "t" make sure the cage it's self isn't set to be dumped.
Step 5. Watch your dwarfs go. You can then d+b+c the dump pile to claim these items your dwarfs will take them.

You are pretty much left with defenseless prisoners, personally i enjoy then assigning them to a restraint and letting my recruits show them the meaning of fun.
