What are you even talking about? I disagreed with what you were saying, I didn't jump in and start insulting you as a person.

Are you for real? *sigh* I am really sick of dealing with you, but I suppose for the benefit of anyone at risk of falling for your shit I should point out that: you were the one who started with the personal attacks right off the bat, there was no provocation, you were responding to a post that was not directed at you, and finally you ignored my attempt to de-escalate after your initial post attacking me.

I don't know what your problem with me is, and frankly I don't care (it's just what it says on the tin: your problem). But what am I supposed to do, just sit there and take it when you decide to spew hostilities just about every time I post on the site? Believe it or not, I do not enjoy arguing on the internet. At the same time, I do try and stand up for myself. Don't try to call me out for your own behaviour. ::)

Woah, bros, calm down a little. You're arguing about intricacies of language now.
Actually, I'd go even further and say we're arguing purely for the sake of arguing at this point. Reelya has a tendency to do that, unfortunately I often find myself being dragged into it as well. It's hardly WTF-worthy at this point, considering it's pretty much the only kind of interaction I've seen him having on the forum in a long time.

To try and bring things back to actual WTFery, apparently live music is slowly starting up again. There is even a gig in the city nearest to me with at least one band I like, and it's just a week away! After all this time, it's a WTF both that it's taken so long to happen and that it's happening already. You know what I mean? Feels weird, man.
Not sure if I will head to it or not, since I have probably forgotten how to interact with other humans (outside my immediate family, at least) in a social setting by now.

I'll admit that the "touhou covers band" thing was a bit of a cheap shot, but it looks like the reality is actually kinda worse. So, a punk/hardcore musician who feels that music is meaningless, fictional entertainment and that the beliefs of those who make it don't matter? I'm sure that stance goes down real well with your peers, haha...
Maybe this has something to do with why the word "scene" seems to hit such a nerve with you? Did you get beaten up and/or mocked for listening to, I don't know, the Casualties, or [INSERT PUNK BAND WITH MEMBER(S) WHO SAYS OR DOES UNPLEASANT THINGS] or something?

For the record, I don't know any of the "scene elitists" about whom you felt inspired to hammer out almost half a dozen paragraphs. It's far more common to encounter keyboard warriors getting mad online about bizarre gatekeeping that does not exist. 🤭
I'm sorry if someone picked on you for not wearing the right punk shirt or not having large enough holes in your skinny jeans, but it seems like that's the least of your problems.

...Also, defending the word "muso" seems like a weird hill to die on, but suit yourself. It's the worst kind of bogan slang, used unironically only by the bogans themselves, folks who either have nothing to do with music or are cripplingly out-of-touch, and (of course) the media. It's certainly not a "normal-person word" from where I'm sitting. Comparing it to the word "scene" is a bit ludicrous. If there was a more literal word for what it describes in this context, that would be sweet, but there isn't - not in English, anyway. I'm sure there's some perfectly suited compound word I could never hope to pronounce in Dutch, German or whatever, but alas.

I'm not going to rehash what I already said about bands and platforms etcetera, since you seem to have deliberately avoided my point in order to argue about something else entirely. Basically, just to summarise: I'm not (and was never) talking about the inner thoughts of a band's individual members not aligning with their lyrical themes, the whole point that started this weird argument was formerly apolitical bands suddenly and deliberately using their platform for political issues.

LMAO okay, I bet you use the word muso-- oh wait, holy shit, you actually did-- and play in a pub rock/touhou covers band or some shit.
So, it's clear that you have no clue what I mean by scene, but I get the impression you're being wilfully ignorant about the rest of what I said, too. Sure, musicians "can have opinions outside their music". Of course. The thing is, this isn't the '80s any more. The internet is a thing. Just about every band/artist out there has at least one social media page, in other words, a platform by which to express whatever views they may hold.
And, on the flip side, just about every listener has the means to look up the bands they follow on said social media, and if said band or artist has decided to use their platform to express those "outside opinions", how is the listener supposed to reconcile that with their songs about snake demons, rogue wizards, love/sex or whatever?

I'm not going to waste any more time on explaining these things to you, given the aforementioned wilful ignorance. FFS, you literally said I was "complaining about there being politics in the music side of things, while simultaneously saying they shouldn't because they're basically clowns". You've never been very bright, but this is impressive even for you, haha. I never said any of those things, and-- wait, never mind, you are already well aware that I never said any of those things. At least, I should certainly hope so.
If not, perhaps go back and re-read my posts more carefully this time. ::)

Normally I don't pay much attention to vocals, apart from shoutable choruses or especially nifty lines to quote when sharing a track, but sometimes it really pays to screen lyrics enough to get some idea of a band/artist's views. It's a sad reality, but these days it's the done thing for a lot, probably the majority, of bands to politicise their music. Or even just declare themselves as supporting one side or another even when their music itself was perfectly apolitical and about snake demons and rogue wizards or some shit!

Yeah, the lofty profession of pop music artists shouldn't get involved in the mundane world of having opinions.
Haha, okay, you've made it very clear that you aren't involved with/invested in any music scene.
That's fair enough, but just because music doesn't mean anything to you doesn't make this rant about it any less nonsensical. Let me try and put it in terms you can better relate to: imagine if the author and illustrator of a favourite manga of yours came out as, I don't know, being anti-abortion or something like that. How would that make you feel about continuing to consume and (unless you pirate it I guess) support their artistic endeavours? Maybe their work might be special enough, or you're just so invested in the story, that you still continue to read it, but you probably wouldn't feel too comfortable with admitting you're a fan of it.
Well, not without an attached disclaimer that you acknowledge the creators as terrible people, I guess, but if you have to go to all that effort it would probably just be better not to mention this hypothetical series at all. You see what I mean?

On a lighter note, describing the kinds of music I was referring to as "pop music" was pretty dang funny. ^-^

snake demons and rouge wizards?

sounds like a band i would listen to
I pulled that description out of my arse entirely at random, but I'm sure there's at least one doom or psychedelic rock band I'm familiar with that has at least one song about such things, haha.

well I didnt know just how far left they leaned, but even their names suggest political dissent.
They openly support at least one literal terrorist organisation. I guess they leant so far that they fell over and suffered a concussion?

The repurposed Jager bottle I'd been using for drinking water for months broke earlier, after it had been in the freezer too long and someone tried to move it from where I left it to thaw on the sink. :'(
Wasn't the first time this had happened, but this was by far the longest it had spent in there - I forgot about it yesterday and it stayed in the freezer overnight, and when I remembered about it today it had frozen water dribbling out the top like a melted candle. I guess the surprising thing is that it survived as long as it did, considering how hot it's been lately and how fucking forgetful (and thirsty) I am.

Part of me wants to rush out and buy a new bottle of Jagermeister to replace it, but another part of me wants to rush out and buy a new bottle of Jagermeister just to drink and find some other bottle to use for the purpose instead. That thing had some real sentimental value, as well as actual usefulness. Being out in the backyard in view of the nosy neighbours swigging from what appeared to be a bottle of spirits at all hours of the day was not without merit, either.

The puppy just boked up a wad of the cat biscuits she'd apparently been eating on the sly, only for the kitten to immediately swoop in and eat it. Ahh, beautiful symbiosis, just as Mother Nature intended.

It... pretty consistently makes that for the given input, so give it a whirl if you want auto-generated biomechanical horrors that vaguely reference children. Fun.

Spoiler: Here, have a sample (click to show/hide)
WHAT THE FRICK

This makes Deep Dream look like a cheerful, family friendly bedtime story. Guess who ain't sleeping tonight?

My cat Catto (great name, huh?) is sleeping on my bed, which is next to my desk. I can't express how adorable I find this.
That's pretty dang cute, alright.

Edit: also, good to see Naturgirl is apparently back!

It occurred to me earlier that the phrase "saints and sinners", while sounding like a diverse mix of goody-goody types and absolute cads, is actually such a broad term as to describe literally everyone. 'Cause the only people who aren't sinners are literal saints, right, and even most saints probably have sinned at least a little at some point.
I don't know exactly where I've heard the term "saints and sinners" in the past, but I feel like it probably gets misused a fair bit.

...That's all. I've had a few random thoughts lately that I woulda kinda liked to post here, but I haven't gotten around to signing into Bay12 on my phone yet and it requires effort to trek to my computer just to shitpost. So I guess I just forget them.

FUCK Spanish verb forms. That is all.
This wasn't at all intended to tie in with the language discussion that appears to be already ongoing, it just made me WTF today.
