Well, my Lasher fell at last... Fighting a night hag.
The annoying thing is, with all his companions, he had it well in hand, wearing it down, until suddenly--
BAM!! Headkick!! How dumb is that... One shotted. They could've at least, I dunno, bit his head off or something realistic?
:( Oh well, next adventurer! :D

This is hilarious. My lasher, Dorlep Adetamed, just sustained his first injury, a minor bolt piercing his arm.
And passed out at the sight of his own blood.
Meanwhile, the paraplegic knife-wielding peasant (Yes, I get a lot of those...) became a quadreplegic, but that didn't stop her chasing down the bandit ringleader, biting them in the chest and shaking them around while the rest of the team (a motley assortment of the local Lord's soldiers) battered 'em.
Hooray for Amak Metegido, the scarred veteran peasant-knife-user-biter!!

My current character has an interesting style...
They're a lasher, and with tricksy opponents, I -bite- their hand or foot so they can't sodge, and then whip them across the chest and stomach until either I get a clear shot at their head, or they fall unconscious.
Not being a piercing weapon, whips don't really deal a great lot of damage to bodyparts apart from the head.

The only companion I've lost was a paraplegic peasant named 'The Knifeman'... I guess I traveled while he was stunned, leaving him in the frozen wastes I'd been exploring.
He disappeared off my companions list, but then, amazingly, when I was back in a town readying for another adventure, he turned up! He'd crawled, on his own, across miles of wasteland.
All he had to say about it was when I asked him about 'surroundings', he babbled on about savage beasts in the blizzard of creation... :D

Thrukti Othdorigu's first assignment from the townsfolk was to kill a bandit, encamped fairly close to town, but on the way he stumbled onto a band of kobolds, right next to the town!
Appalled by the thought of the vicious creatures ransacking his home village, the swordsman swung his longsword and hacked them to bits, then stacked their grisly corpses against some trees and fired them.

Continuing on, killing some wolves along the way, he reached the camp he was sent to destroy, and crept right up close to them and battered them with thrown spears and daggers before charging in, sending the leader's two minions fleeing with well-placed strikes, then charging the leader himself, a cowardly crossbowman.
He only got off one bolt before Thrukti was chopping him apart, a very slow and gruesome process, as the bandit was quite resilient.

He's now travelling to crush another camp of criminals, this time accompanied by a peasant and clad in mismatched armour.

EDIT: Well, he died, pathetically. Seriously, I dunno what happened, but as soon as he entered combat his ARMS IS STOP WORKS. Dur. Cue a ridiculous scene, lying on the ground with legs and arms screwed, and he couldn't even bite the ringleader, SOMEHOW still throwing things at him... Lodged a couple of spears etc. in him before he died. :(

The VERY first thing?
Died. Horribly. It was awesome, and a great start! :D

My first adventurer finally died when my party got ambushed by something like 60 goblins. I managed to outright kill a handful and horribly maim a lot more, but eventually I got tired and an arrow took out my one remaining eye. I got knocked down, dragged myself up, got a sword in the belly but managed to hold onto it and strangle the bastard that stabbed me before two spearman impaled me and a swordsman decapitated me as I was strangling one of the spearmen.

Most badass death ever!
...Everyone, feel free to post your even awesome-er deaths! :D

My current adventurer, Evhol Umillegu, has survived FAR longer than I expected! :D
First, she was sent to kill some bandits... I thought she'd die there, like many of my other characters, but no!
She made a fighting retreat, pummeling the bandit leader's thugs with deer tripe...
And then lead them, battered as they were, into a group of wolves.
After killing a couple of them while they were distracted, she wandered back to find the leader, grieviously injured, running like a scared little... Well, scared thing.
So she chased him down and hacked him to bits, then finished off his last soldier.
After that she decided to relax by wandering the frozen wastelands to the north of my current world, fighting kobolds, a cougar and a troll with a measly bit of help from a peasant or two.
Now she's back in town... Time to hunt some elf she's heard gossip about...

I think they're perfect as they are...
Why do you think everyone craps themselves with shock when they realise you're travelling along at night?!? :P

My first several adventurers died on their first assignment, pathetically under-equipped and unskilled.
Then came the almighty Kandarl Sukurir, "Beastsmear"! In the mid-autumn of 668, he became a hero, wandering around wiping out several groups of bandits with only his trusty greataxe and a ragged band of peasants.
His sad end came when, accompanied by his knife-armed comrades, he was sent to kill a bandit leader Oled Hazetug.
Fearless, he wandered straight up to their camp, and butchered several bandits with several strikes, before moving after a pesky bowman  on a nearby hill, who was filling his allies with arrows.
He marched up the hill, cleaving bandits left and right, then killed the bowman.
Sadly, he lost his axe, along with the use of a hand, and ended up wielding a pike instead, which perhaps led to his downfall.
Walking back to gather his hardened peasant-warriors, he was confronted by Oled Hazetug, grieviously wounded but still very much alive. The vicious bandit screamed curses, and bragged of killing our heroes companion Mel Pleatedsling, and then battle was joined!
But Kandarl, 'The Muscular Chasms' as he was known by people across the land, was not used to wielding a pike, much preferring his axe. His first strike skidded harmlessly off the evil woman's shield, who then smashed his last comrade's head in, before turning and finishing off Kandarl, a blow of her shield caving in his head.
The cruel bandits of 'The Touches of Fire' would live to terrorise people still!

WHoaaah! I love Adeventure Mode!! :D
There have been s-loads more epic adventures since that!
Notably: Sneaking into a troll lair and firing arrows blindly down a dark tunnel, hearing yells of pain before suddenly the trolls barged out into the light and killed my character. :D

Awesome!! I was so excited when I saw the .17 on the homepage!! :D
Now, if I don't get horribly killed within a few minutes, I'll be disappointed. :P
Great job Toady!
. . .

I was most certainly not disappointed!! xD

Wooooow! This is so great! Everything works well, the map is very good, and I can actually bite people now!
I wrote out a whole paragraph detailing my adventurer's antics(The first several dying very fast), but I'm not sure people'd bother reading it. :P It's great fun! Looting bandit camps is just... Well, great.
The aimed attacks add a whole level of strategy to combat, like, 'Quick, I'll bash the spear shaft into their arm, then while they're off balance, I'll ram the spear through their eye!'
Just fantastic!
I haven't found any major bugs yet, either. :) Great job Toady!

Also: When you get 'You must leave this site to travel', that's not a bug. It's when you're either in an enemy camp, or some other important location like a fortress. I guess the reason the people there wouldn't talk to you is that you've comitted some crime.
That happens in other versions, when you become a criminal, people won't talk to you and you can't fast travel. :)
