Youtube and Gmail are going to be taken away unless Google is allowed to freely ignore copyright restrictions? Please. It's offensive and a ridiculously hollow threat.
Honestly I would be kinda stoked if Youtube went away.
Obviously it would be hugely, massively inconvenient in the short term (and I dread to think how many internet artefacts like VHS player collection guy might be lost), but maybe a new, less-terrible video service would rise up in its place. I know there are alternatives, but they're all tiny compared to YT.

...Anyway, this is kinda off-topic. Let me find some nice music to share... aha! From the next tab over from this one, here's Swamp Dog Blues on an antique resonator guitar. I was on a real dobro/resonator kick the other day. Would love to learn to play such an instrument. This amazing little tune is a pretty good display of their versatility.

...but I've already got a freckle on the one ear that makes it look like i've got the double.
Huh, I have a pair of freckles above... uh, one or the other of my eyes that always looked to me like one of those weird eyebrow piercings I remember seeing on the occasional space marine back when I used to read Warhammer Monthly comics and such. Pretty sure I even considered getting such a piercing, haha.

Oh, how I hated to be in that ocean of indifferent people.
I miss it so much.
I hadn't really thought of it that way. Of course I miss cities and the oft unfulfilling awkward social interactions I used to seek out, but even just a crowd is a nostalgic thing now. Though of course, where I live there have (thankfully) been mercifully few cases of the virus, basically none, so after the initial panic a lot of things have more-or-less gone back to normal. Well, "normal" by this place's standards.
Now I just have extra reason for the anxiety attacks being out in public gives me. Hooray.

Double-posting 'cause, last night, after watching some Cities: Skylines videos I was feeling kinda inspired so I fired up Sim City 4 and slapped together a city.
I had just planned on messing around and seeing what kind of hellhole I could create, but as of today I have somehow managed to get my city's monthly budget in the positive. Now, this is a rare thing in the cities I pour heaps of effort into, so I am pretty surprised by this. I didn't even have to turn half of town into a toxic waste dump or raise anyone's taxes... much.

New city slogan idea: Klepawke, the Place to Be!

Our local summer flea markets are dead to me. Such is life.
I've been to the occasional flea market lately with family. Even more nerve-wracking than usual, even though we have very few COVID cases in my part of the world. It's weird that so much stuff is up-and-running again up here already.
Hell, even the tattoo parlours are operating again. I still need to get some more of those...

Reminds me of the time where US county sheriffs infiltrated a far right militia and plotted to blow up a federal court as a honeypot. Half the militia leaves when they keep pressing for this, but before they can arrest the remaining members they get arrested by FBI. After they're arrested by FBI they find out the head of the militia was ATF and every single one of them was an undercover fed of some sort
That's hilarious. :))

Edit: a new WTF. A passing mention of somebody named James Thomson in the book I'm reading, where he is described as "the ultimate pessimist-poet", led me to abandon the book for a moment to have a look for his work online. A couple hours later and I've been intensely trawling Goodreads, Abe Books and Amazon for a wide variety of weird and disturbing literature.
My shopping cart on Abe Books currently sits at just shy of one-hundred and thirty US dollars. Uhhhhhh could somebody please confiscate my internet before I spend stupid amounts of money on books? Especially when I already have so very, very many books lying around that I need to read, a backlog I am forever adding to. I have a demonstrated lack of self-control when it comes to books. Uh oh.

Welp, I tried having a go at the police campaign instead and my computer was so disgusted with me for abandoning my principles that the game promptly crashed the moment I finished the tutorial. And then Beholder froze the moment I started it, too. Whoa.
Clearly this has nothing to do with, say, performance issues or computer specs, no, it's my laptop voicing its displeasure at the kind of games I make it run. :P

Now let's see if it can run The Dope Game. If worst comes to worst, I got the special edition on sale which includes an alternate version of the game in the style of an oldschool text adventure, so I guess that's always an option.

Nothing is more terrifying than raising a toddler in these times. I just learned of Fifi the Flossing Sloth. My entire existence is now devoted to ensuring that he doesn't learn of its existence.
I mean... would that be a better or worse role model than Stoner Sloth? 🤔

@Wierd: oh, it was me who posted about it alright, but I'm surely not the only one to be disturbed by that abomination.

Tried to get a nice eight hour's sleep last night - which meant a wake-up time of ten, since I went to bed late.
What actually happened was some weird, kinda horrifying dream woke me up sometime before eight, almost certainly inspired by my corporeal body being cold and needing to pee. Once I took care of those issues, I felt the need to write this creepy dream down, as opposed to going back to sleep.
I lay in bed, writing, and I think I got about halfway through said dream before dozing off in the delicious warmth of my adjusted blankets and had another weird-ass dream. At some point I woke up long enough to snooze my alarm about half a dozen times before turning it off altogether. Whoops.

-Company of Crime stuff-
Yeah, I'm not very far into the game yet but I've already experienced a lot of the issues you mentioned.
I think - and I'm not sure, since this has only happened once - the "being forced to auto-resolve" thing happens when you have a story mission in the pipeline at the same time. Like, when the first, non-story mission happens, the setup for a story mission is about to complete? Not sure, that's just my best guess for why it happened to me.
I didn't actually use auto-resolve, though. Cancelled the mission, since if I'm gonna send my mooks to die or get knocked out I at least want to watch them get their arses kicked! Not that it makes much difference, since most of the missions you can do are, as you said, against a bunch of hapless civilians.

I can understand going in and visiting extreme violence upon a place of business to begin with, to get them to start giving you money or sell up or whatever, but just why does the game give you messages like "oh no! [RIVAL GANG] is robbing people at [BUSINESS YOU OWN/EXTORT FROM]! You oughta do something about this!" but then when you click on said business and choose the "beat up" option, when you eventually show up the targets you're supposed to beat are just the same terrified civilians who pay you money every week. ???

Definitely agree that it could use a fair bit of polish. That said, I haven't played enough to get bored of it yet. Haven't even encountered any weirdness with heat, since I've been playing pretty carefully in that regard. I saw something on the Steam discussions about better heat-reduction options unlocking later on, but who knows.

Edit: I just realised it's page 69. Tee hee.

Edit 2: Wait, so heat is just an outright "game over" screen after thirty days? Eurgh. I went and bought a laundromat and everything.
Considering there are all of two or three ways to lower it in the early game (that the game does not tell you how to do) and each takes ten days at the least, this seems like a pretty poor design choice.
Perhaps I'll try the fuzz side of the game, see if that's any more functional in the current version. I was a bit disappointed that you don't get to start your own gang in the main story, anyway - playing as a vaguely defined, partially genderflipped Kray twins analogue was not exactly what I'd hoped for, haha.

Speaking of fuzz, prior to the heat thing my biggest gripe with the game was the way police officers can magically arrest you by simply throwing handcuffs at you. If the target character was grappled or stunned or something it'd make sense, but nope - suddenly a pair of handcuffs just appears on your wrists.
I wonder if you can pull that sort of BS whilst playing as the coppers, or if only the AI gets to pull such a daft stunt... hmmm.

I had to go outside earlier and it was crowded and open and awful but now I am back home and I am relieved and relaxed and have beer. ^-^

Sorry to hear that. :(
At least, though, you were there with the cat at the end to provide one last burst of love and comfort.

Sorry for double-posting, but it turns out TSSB has a new album out.
Pretty amazing that this band is not only still going, they're still going strong. Lots of stuff I considered saying about this band and what it means to me, but I think I'll let this song do the talking. Probably as potent as any of their classic, especially sad tunes from back in the day.
