DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: How long do you play a typical fort?
« on: March 24, 2015, 01:34:03 am »
mine are usually abandoned due do my OC kicking in and not liking something in my new design...so i move on to iteration 497 of plan A. that or FB's made of gem, screw them.

its really interesting to see how people treat different elements. i think i've done most things in df...although i will admit i've never built AND activated a self destruct system, and on the same note i've never flooded the surface with magma...on purpose.

as to hospitals. i usually have a dorm setup with a hospital off to the side in what will eventually become my great hall/ meeting hall. with wildlife fighting each other now i rarely find anything dangerous alive, and if im using a cavern then first priority is to wall it up (with carefully controlled entry points of course)

oooo i've never successfully colonized the circus either.

just had a "Giant lizard with scales and two tails that breaths fire" FB duke it out for several minutes with a cave dragon. felt like i was watching an old Godzilla movie.

Who won?!

tie...though technically the fb lasted about a minute longer then the dragon before bleeding out.

love the irony of a fire breathing lizard killing a dragon that's forgotten how to breath fire

cave dragon and fb stew anyone?

i have also had invaders chase wildlife around, i defiantly suspect that loyalty has been tinkered with.

i will attempt to reproduce (and weaponize) in the name of !science!

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: The Perfect Dwarven Fort Entrance
« on: July 07, 2014, 02:48:36 am »
i always like a dodge 'em trap entrance way (single tile wide walkway with sheer 20+ drops on either side) i will generally rig up a 'landslide' mechanism (which differs depending on the map and if possible and not too big of a megaproject will involve quantities of magma.) to push pesky trap_avoids off the bridge. my fortress innards are usually at the bottom of the drop so that passing civilians can pick up a stray goblin arm as they pass the splat zone and pop it in the refuse pile. sides of the sheer walkways far walls are usually fortified with squads of marksdwarves patrolling...for those annoying situations where the siege leader falls of the cliff and rest stand there scratching there ass's 'waiting' for him. on the inner side of the walkway is usually a cage-o-death. either full of war dogs, jaguars, or whatever i have...FB if ive gotten one caught at some point.

my new embark civ is called "the oily floor"

DF General Discussion / Re: What has DF taught you?
« on: July 02, 2014, 12:47:17 am »
it unfortunately taught me what a crundle was, and the horror that ensues every time i read a battle report about one. "the flying silver bolt strikes the crundle's eye tearing the muscle"

i just beat my previous 53, with a 57. mind you i have started smoothing anything that's stone so its value has skyrocketed recently, that im digging through veins of native gold like its mud...

however....

27 are children, all related. that plus the 26 children that were all cousins in the first large wave. i wondering exactly what is going on here? why such i high percentage of children i wonder.

12
(yes yes - necro etc etc)

53 migrants. from 11, 1 skipped season ('your fortress has attracted no migrants this season'), to 64. None very special.

no artifacts...no candy. all i did was dig a hole and smooth it...lol.

Kattel.

edit: 26 children.......ALL from one family. i feel like the vonTraps just moved in. I see a lot of cousin marrying in there future. (does the game even allow that? lol....the things you ask about df.)

- Aquifers (fresh or salt)

aquifer breaching is always a good skill to have. read up on the wiki and then have a few runs at it.

you can most certainly be subjected to multiple sieges whilst one is already on the field. by both the already present race and other races.

have seen it many many times playing fort defense mod

Yeah, same in vanilla too. (3 Goblin lasher sieges, one elf).

only if there at war with each other. its defiantly possible to have races at war with you but not each other both siege you. can be analyzed from the civ sreen.

Question: Can two different races launch a siege against you at the same time?  As in elves and goblins?

If so... Do they fight each other?
