you can...but at the end of the day a war dog wont beat an armoured opponent. it might protect you from badgers and maybe trog's but the first armored goblin to arrive will skewer a dozen for breakfast without breaking a sweat. war giant badgers in my expierence dont survive long enough due to needing pasturing, i think bears (other then dragons and other dwarfy things) are the best.

will the cats be the death of me?
is a 6x12, 2 room area large enough for a mayor and other nobles with requirements?
What is the best way to capture the badgers?

1. just stick to your plan an dont forget them for a year or two and your fine.
2. more then enough. ive kept most nobles happy with a 3 3x3's - i just retrofit the bedrooms on either side of an elected noble's bedroom. for tombs i just allocate a room in the catacombs.
3. cages at choke points (either natural ones like lakes, or build walls). ive even had extremly good luck just scattering a few dozen cage traps over the surface randomly.

my current fortress has 3 or 5 wide hallways with gold/platinum statues lining the middle. even when i lose someone (stupid giant badgers) they dont drop below light green. (therapist)

Beachtroubles the feral wilt (???) a dog leather thong: bands of saguaro, rings of dog bone, spikes of dog leather, sheep's wool and aluminum, image of dark strangler in dog leather, image of dwarf in dark strangler bone.

cave in?

magma?

line the pit boundary with xbow dwarves?

wait for a resident to do the dirty work for you...cave ogre or croc or some such might be enough

build a depot above the area rigged to drop...drop the caravan + guards down when next the humans arrive.

giant badgers.

....

profit!

i burst out laughing in the middle of a lecture whilst reading the 'note to urist' thread once....lecturer stopped, 200 hundred pairs of eyes swiveled to stare at me like i was insane. in fact i actually think the two on either side of me shuffled further away....class was about a engineering project for a disadvantaged Indian village too...so i think it was probably a very inappropriate moment for that to occur.

Trade is HARD.

1. Build trade depot.
2. carry stuff to it.
3. ...
4. Profit.

It's a point you didn't need to make, I understood that fact already.

It was more so arguing that it seems a little backwards or odd that the "best" material in the game makes the absolute worst blunt weapons.

so what your trying to get across is that you think that the best edged material should also be the best blunt material?

i feel that  having different materials better at different things is a superior mechanic then having and all powerful 'i win' button for every weapon mechanic. imho.

if a fort gets tedious/annoying/boring to me, i self destruct or abandon and start a new one...there's so much variety no two embarks are ever the same.

a loincloth with the word gallows in its name! I actually got a cold shiver that ran down my spine....

It also has a mushroom on it.

yeah i knida thought he was trying to be modest and have an image instead of just not having the loincloth on at all...Urit McExhibitionist trying to be more PC and all that.
