Yea Im sort of on the fence now on purchasing or donating and I hate to say that. I have been here as a fan since 2010, and played a lot of df. I hope they get a handle on the censorship. Just delete the trouble makers posts and temp ban them. They are locking threads with no personal attacks as well.
Why donating? Toady has no control (It turns out he *does* have a degree of control over the forum but the bans were by Kitfox staff and even Steam community moderators) over the Steam forum, it's 100% Kitfox. Kitfox gets 0% of the proceeds of donation. Toady gets about 50% (Steam takes 30%, Kitfox 20%) of the cash from purchases, so IMO it's better to donate directly, anyway.

I may still donate, but they did choose this publisher instead of a different one that wouldn't be as harsh.
Why did Tarn choose to go into business with his friend instead of a random corporate entity? You really need to ask that?

Oh I was not aware of that. Well he could have a sit down with his friend about this to correct the behavior anyways if it is kitfox and not the steam mods.

I will probably still donate instead of buying the steam version, but they did choose this publisher instead of a different one that wouldn't be as harsh. Maybe as said above it is actually just steam moderators over stepping their bounds. In which case I'd retract my reservation to buying it.

I have not said anything vile, nor did I intend to. Just because we don't want said feature in the game does not mean we are going to spew hate. It just has no place in this fantasy game or the original lore imho. I don't want to derail this thread as it's about steam, but just saying my opinion real quick and why I feel the censorship is over the top as it's related to Steam. Regardless at least we should be able to mod it if we don't like it so it's not that big of a deal, but the censorship is what I was concerned with. Some users are stating they got banned on Twitter as well for just agreeing that it didn't belong, but I am not sure if they are lying and said much worse(guess I may have my answer soon here if I get in trouble for this post lol).

Have a good day :).

I don't see anything to bad over there yet, but give it some time lol. I am sure people will gripe you have to pay just because they can, and even though it's still going to have this original version available free.

DF General Discussion / Re: Dwarf Fortress is comming to Steam
« on: March 13, 2019, 07:00:59 pm »
I just saw this on Steam today when I signed on lol(Dwarf Fortress group on Steam posted it). I have lurked and post a few times on these forums since 2010, and I will be buying it as soon as it releases. This is great news, and with the graphic and audio addition I can probably talk my friend into as well. He has watched me play it over the years every now and then, but he wont play because of the asc graphics. I am happy to support these guys :D.

DF General Discussion / Re: The Villain Arc is upon us...
« on: September 15, 2018, 04:52:10 pm »
I just returned from a 2 year hiatus, lots of new interesting stuff added for sure! It seems Toady is in a current long dev cycle adding stuff before myth gen which is cool. So our dwarves are going to become criminals randomly soon? Sounds interesting lol.
Procedurally generated criminals, not random, there's a difference. Random is where every other migrant wave there's a 20% chance of a dwarf being a criminal.

Procedurally generated is where Smaug the Melty-Flame of Midgits decides in a time before time that he must rule the underworld. To do this he conspires to cause a rebellion in a goblin civ to encourage them to topple their demon ruler so that he can take its place a few years later. The captain of the goblins isn't into rebelling, but his second in command is and happens to be quite partial to platinum warhammers. And hey, guess what, a new dwarf fortress has one on display in it's museum. Smaug applies his influence to a bandit-camp bookkeeper who convinces their warlord to go raid the nearby dorfs, he's planning on swiping the hammer during the raid to give to Smaug's agent, a sexy llama-woman who the bookkeeper has a thing for. Only problem is, dorfs won't open their doors easily. The bookkeeper consults with his spies who tell him that Urist McGuardman of the fortress is feeling depressed, having been dumped by his girlfriend. The bookkeeper sends an agent to convince Urist that his girl was having a fling with the mayor, but don't worry, a bunch of bandits are planning on beating him up for past crimes, just open the door Urist. Please.

Urist opens the door, the bandits storm the fortress, the bookkeeper steals the warhammer, gives it to his llama lover who presents it to Smaug who gives it to the goblin rebel who topples the demon king allowing Smaug to step in, kill the rebel king, take over the civ, learn the secrets of the underworld and take over.

Urist is hammered for being a traitor criminal.

Yea that sounds way funner than what I had in mind. Can't wait! I came back at a good time.

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Re: How to become Overpowered: A Guide

Hrm I may try this. I have never played adventure mode honestly really. I did try it once, but I died quickly and had no idea what to do since your just kinda thrown in the wild. I did play at a very early version though.

DF General Discussion / Re: PeridexisErrant's DF Starter Pack
« on: September 13, 2018, 10:42:55 pm »
Well that was weird. I checked the graphics folder and indeed it only had the ASCII graphics folder in it. So I deleted it all and redownloaded the file. Unzipped it and moved it back, and now the graphics folders are there and it shows up in the launcher. Strange, but it seems to be fixed. Thanks guys.

Now I can play on my new laptop yay :D(32 and this is my first one lol, always just used PC, but my son is older and hogs the PC a lot now a days lol).

Hello! I am trying to use the latest version of this pack and am not seeing anything but the ASCII graphics in the graphics tab? I have used this for years(I come and go a lot), but have never seen this as the graphic packs usually show up and I just install them. Wondering if I need to manually download them and do it now?

Thanks for this awesome Pack and keeping it updated all this time!

DF General Discussion / Re: Done with antivirus
« on: February 15, 2018, 09:31:43 pm »
if you are still in need of an antivirus that doesn't fuck with games I recommend avast, it keeps a list of games you have installed on your computer and does not mess with any of the game files (it does recognize DF and a bunch of other indie games as actual games and not a system threat)

I second Avast. I've been using it for a few years and never had any issues. It's picked up a few viruses and stopped them as well.

Holy Mother of Armok's blood and booze stained beard. This deserves a mention on the TVTropes DF Awesome page. Even more when it reaches 420 years. Maybe drop everyone into the magma pool then? ;)

That's crazy talk.

Why would anyone drop everyone into the magma pool at 420? 425 or 500 would be better (for my OCD).

...4/20 Blaze it joke...

Yea that was easy to pick up, not sure why he didn't lol. Guessing that person doesn't smoke.

This fort is amazingly awesome and I will just say to keep it up and I hope you make it to 450 years!

It scares me that people still use Avast.

Why? It works fine it seems still and I have used it for years since avg went to crap.
