We could see a lake in the cavern, so we dug out an area next to it and attempted to flood it, causing the floor to muddy. Nothing grew there, just like the rest of the cavern. We converted the area into the main hall, filling it with workshops and stockpiles.

We had to slaughter the trusty buffalo which had got us here for food. And they were starving.

Onwards we pushed, until damp walls we discovered. We mined through above into another cuge cavern, this one with large trees and moss. No shrubs, but moss and fungus were what we needed.

We walled off an area and let the animals graze happily.

I oversaw the beginning of some facilities in the main hall, a bed each, a statue area, and more workshops and stockpiles. It was a mess but it was home, and would be until we had enough time and resources to dig proper rooms.

We began a farm, sheared and milked the animals, made some nest boxes for the birds, and secured the cavern areas with doors. We had food a plenty, the walls were teeming with minerals (highest minerals guys, but no flux. ;) ) and we seemed safe.

What could possibly go wrong?

EDIT: Well we're fkd.

1 cavern has moss, trees and shrubs, one trees, one nothing.
The chicken and goose have unclaimed their nestboxes and refuse to reclaim them.
There's jobs and items lying around that nobody's doing/touching.
We got a hunter, dyer and wax worker as immigrants... ¬¬
Generally buggy and ugh.

Oh well!

Ok, here we go.

Scrubbedcream (actually is, not creams. Oops) : Year 1

We reached the location that the king stated several hundred years ago would bring us new fortune. What a joke.
The long and harsh trek with the remainder of our livestock left us in the middle of a flat frozen wasteland. On the back of the map it said simply, we shall live under the ice.

The Dwarves were doomed, with less than a few stragglers left of their race, and the Elves rampant. This frozen wasteland was their last chance, but even it had its surprises. Evil permeated the area. Huge yetis, or the remains of, wandered freely. In order to survive, we'd have to live in the caverns... it was going to be hell.

We stopped the wagon and quickly built a large wall around it, whilst digging down. We'd keep digging until we hit the caverns, and hope our livestock wasn't dead before then.

On the level below the ice we dug out a small area, and dragged the thin, staving animals there whilst our quest for the caverns continued. Shafts were dug off repeatedly. We got deeper and deeper. Then, suddenly, the wall gave way out into the caves to find...

A cavern completely devoid of plant life.

Cliffhangaaaaar!

It's the animals I'm worried about most. Trying to give them room and breach the caverns quick enough to let them live...

Just for your info I decided to take a breeding pair of dogs, cats, sheep, geese, hens, pigs along with a ton of wood, a sword, 2 picks, and some dude with loads of doctor skills.

IIRC we get 2 waves of migrants (they've not been yet) then that's it. Should be... er, !!FUN!!.

1026
That's because we're screaming as Skeletal Yetis run around. I'll update eventually. XD

Removing that would help, but there's another tag too you can add, [LITTER_SIZE:0:0] IIRC, numbers being min and max. So [LITTER_SIZE:10:10] would cause gobbospam. XD

Ok, my new Succession has no replies. So I may consider succession Dwarftropolis. Who would go for it?

Sedme eh...? If it's a forgotten beast, then surely it must have once been known...? Bring on the cave paintings!

Well... I know people aren't going to sign up until they see it's going somewhere. So I'm going to start. :D

I've gathered the dwarves I think we shall need... and the fortress' random generated name was Scrubbedcreams. Which I like. And The Curious Roughness is the group. :D

1031
For 50 years, the Momentus Dimension had a Golden Age. All civilised nations worked together. Then one day, a megalomanic elf took over.

Soon the Goblins had been eradicated. And the Kobold.
By ~300 all humans and dwarves were gone.

Now, in the year 1050, we're going to embark. On a terrifying glacier... with the only other living Civ a very large warring group of elves. This is Scrubbedcreams, last retreat of The Curious Roughness.

Turns will be 1 year of ingame time (or less if you have no time, in which case tell us and hand it back), and will cycle until we suffer our inevitable fate. Game is vanilla. I shall take turn 1. Please suggest group and fort names, and apply for turns, etc. etc. Please post pictures of the fort, and a nice report in whatever way you want, name a dorf after yourself, IDC.

Also we need to discuss our embark stuff.

Years:
  • EmperorJon (Ended early)
  • billybobfred
  • peregarrett
  • Valrandir
  • Lord Zack
  • Svarte Troner
  • Ancre
  • Baron Baconeer
  • Joshua IX

Rules:
If you don't post and start within 3 days of your go starting, you'll be skipped.
If you don't post for a week (at most!) while it's your go, we'll pass the older save to the next person.
If you have to cut your turn short, post up the save.
If your turn starts half way through someone elses you can choose whether to play half a year or a year and a half etc.
Years are spring to spring.

Win! Just got a small world to experience 50 years of Golden Age, then the Elves took over. By ~300 all humans and dwarves are gone.

Now, in the year 1050, we're going to embark. On a terrifying glacier... with the only other living Civ a warring group of elves. This is dwarf fortress.

Now on for the thread.

Hmmm... might not be a bad idea. Still, I've got another succession idea.

Ok, I think I have and idea here. Trying to generate a world which has the total annihilation of dwarfdom. Then embark in a glacier. Retreated far away from the murderous young civilisations. If I manage to get a decent embark and the right world then I'll post some info about it and start recruiting. :D

What do you mean?

+...
You may have just solved a dilemma of mine. There's this thread, and there's me saying I want a succession fort what shall I do.
XD

But I'm not sure if I want everyone else playing it... I mean, I rather want to build it how I want it...
