*shrug* Most of players here wants new features more than bugfixs (except crashes). And they get what they wish for. Oh, so much.

I can only weep.

... I'm not sure I understand what you are saying...
I made text a little (I hope) clearer.

you have the problem with it not necessarily being "because" of a personality trait, but just that a personality trait skewed the roll, and it might not be clear to the computer's logic that the skew was the sole determining factor in what the dwarf decided to do.
I think this will solve itself: if some dwarf is often on break or doing nothing and reason "being lazy" is listed more often than usual, then player will know that this particular dwarf deserves magma bath (if player brothers with that close monitoring, this means that dwarf should do something important like trade instead of procrastination).

DF Suggestions / Reason to current job
« on: February 05, 2011, 03:04:51 pm »
Just... reason. Ie. why dwarf starts doing this thing instead of other. Shown under actual job. This will help in two main cases:
  • Personality more fleshed out. I almost never read personality texts and they have very little visible influence in game - and when they do have, it is indirect. Result: you are left with this lazyass fucker of broker that instead of trading have break, sleeps, eat and drink for months. With reason "Laziness" for job "On break", when depot awaits and no jobs enabled, you instanty know that you gonna need new broker.
  • Game bugs hunting. Why cannot follow order? It there legitimate reason or yet another bullshit military bug? For example, you see as reason "do not have ammo", yet you clearly see in inventory crossbow, quiver and bolts. Clearly bug.
Will never happen, because something resembling helpful and sane UI is anathema and heresy for Toady. Shame, isn't it?

They are a diverse group. Some say, holocaust didn't happen at all. Most say, that it is grossly (pun intended) exagerrated, and the death toll was lower, and therefore making such a big deal out of in is unjustified. "Holocaust denier" is an umbrella term to ridicule / isolate anyone who has any doubts about the official version of holocaust and speaks about it. History revisionists ar often name-called holocaust deniers to discredit them, and their work.
Do you are aware that such different views in one group do not help you? Because, you know, one could get impression that particular numbers are picked according to wishes, not knowledge or facts. And in your place I would not want to be associated with various... interesting... folks there.

Like, you know, neo-nazis, that basically claims that Holocaust did not happen, but it should happen again. One could think that they would savior it - not deny - even if this try was failure. But since when conspiracy paranoia had anything to do with logic, reality or sanity? :>

Here are some interesing links:
http://www.onethirdoftheholocaust.com/
I admit this link is interesting, but not in way that you probably intended. :] Unfortunately, as non-english speaker watching non-captioned fims was... problematic. Anyway on net are many other pages about holocaust denialism, so I do not think I missed any significant arguments.

I love argumentum ad youtubium.

People still keep mentioning nazis and holocaust, as if they were important now.
This is important - atrocities done by nazis and communists - and this will be important always, until human is human. Or do you think there are no wars or exterminations now? Or doing holocaust to some group is impossible? Or concentration camps/lagiers?

I have to note that, ironically, you seem to feel more strongly about the Holocaust than anyone else in this thread.
Oh, I also feel strongly - because certain mindsets fascinates and scares me. Holocaust denialism is only one obvious, yet small part of paranoia industry. We have creationists, global warming deniers, "alternative" medicine with Big Pharma scarce and anti-vaccinations, UFO conspiracies (including shapeshifting reptilioids), 9/11 (duh!) and way too many, many more retarded in(s)anity. Not to mention political and economical concepts firmly detached from reality (communism, anyone?). And as bonus you can lose faith in humanity on regular basis. What is not to like?

Personally, I suspect that, at this very moment, toady is running a game where he builds the pyramid of Giza out of clay bricks.
If you think that Toady plays his game*, you are mistaken. From his comments, dev log and nature of existing bugs I have impression that he embarks on 2x2 map and checks and re-checks what needed until he is happy with result. And never returns to, say, check if next features accidentally broke previous things. Or if this really works always, not only accidentally in one test scenario... or... or... well, results are well known.

Oh boy, I can't wait for 0.31.19 bugs.

* Irony, it burns.

History revisionists, called "holocaust deniers" managed to demistify some of it, and thats a good thing.
Holocaust deniers claims that holocaust - as in systematic murder of entire human group with specified characteristics - did not happen at all. Check dictionary next time, maybe mysterious words like "denier" will be clearer.

OK, so I went on a rant. Now I'll propably be lynched by forum dwellers.
If only you had sufficient IQ to know why lynched...

I personally think this thread has become distasteful with the dwarfschwitz thing and needs to be ended.
You must be new here.

Therefore you can extrapolate when most bugs will get fix, and can show that lingering bugs are a minority.
I cannot fathom how you can say this with straight face when anyone can open Mantis and see for himself current state of affairs. I give up and shut up, at least for this thread.

12
Toady has bug fixes in every release.
Technically yes, every release have something. Practically speaking, he does worthwile bugfixing (this so-called bugfixing push) rarely. Too rarely.

There easier to track in my opinion with the introduction of the Mantis system. As of the 2010 release, there have been an average of 18.4 bugs quashed with every release with a preference for crash bugs and typos. Most bugs get fixed within 2 months of being reported, and bugs in the 5+ month rage are in the minority, with it skewing to even more a minority in the 6 and seven month range.
Your results do not include unfixed bugs, thus rendering them biased and worthless. Your excuses will not change that.

All of those links have resolved duplicates, as far as I could tell.
Unfortunately, this means nothing. For some reason, unneeded duplicates are marked as resolved, not closed (as everyone can see, this is confusing). You can trust only "resolved" that are marked by Toady, not Footkerchief or someone else.

In my opinion this fairly clearly shows "...fixing some bugs, then introducing new bugs, then another round of fixes".
What will result in long run in game unplayable due to n+ bugs (see: soap madness).
Huh?

No use for cruthes, or plaster, or soap.
Did you know medical supplies will only count as being stocked in the hospital if they're stored in a bag/box/chest built in the hospital?
Yes, I know. What it have to do with fact that dwarves DO NOT use cruthes at all, using plaster for cast is broken and soap... okay, I give this last one: soaps works in hospital storage. Only. Not to mention other issues (most annoying is that medical skills seem to have lower priority than No Job).

And that the hospital is, in fact, not NEARLY as bugged as you believe it to be?
Funny that Mantis, my experience and complaints all over this forum somehow do not agree with you.

Also, adding new features before a bugfix does not introduce more bugs than adding new features after a bug fix.
Of course it can, in zilion ways. For example, some behaviour of new feature can rely on unfixed old bug. When you at last fix that old bug, new feature mysteriously broke, often in werid way and often months after originally writing it - so it will be very hard to make connection between two, not to mention actually fixing this secondary bug.

The features are going in at some point, and the bugs are getting fixed at some point. Introducing the bugs and then doing a big bugfixing push strikes me as a lot more sensible than...
Except this is not what Toady do. He writes code (read: introduces bugs), writes code, writes code, fix some bugs, writes code, writes code, writes code, fix some... this cannot end well. Proper (or at least "properer") way is: writes code, fix bugs, writes code, fix bugs... in other words, IMVHO he too rarely do bug fixing. And yes, I am very well aware this is what most of community want. It saddens me.

...fixing some bugs, then introducing new bugs and not doing a bugfixing push.
Where I write to not doing it? Last I checked, my post said something different.

Hospital and military fixes. You know, these two small, completely unimportant and unnecessary areas of game, that I for some strange reason I want to be fixed.  ::) There are many, many, very many other important bugs, but most pressing are military and hospital woes.
So...
  • Cannot follow orders. Oh Armok, CANNOT FOLLOW ORDERS.
  • Dwarves too retarded to discern between bolts, arrows, crossbows and bows. They rarely take any ammo, not to mention taking proper ammo.
  • Ways of teaching are screwed up and unusable. In short: unbalanced. In fact, I would do away with Teacher and Student or at least redo it.
  • Doctors and medics that mostly do nothing at all and only very rarely do something for patients.
  • Permament cripples in hospital.
  • Opposite: goddamn suicides that avoid treatment.
  • No use for cruthes, or plaster, or soap. In fact, do hospital was tested at all?... I bet Toady tested it once on one or two dorfs, moved to other things and while doing them broke hospital. Yay.
Anyway I do not count very much on this "bugfix punch". At least half of it will be wasted on bugfixing new features - I have no doubts that 0.31.19 will be hardly playable. In additions, new features will broke some old things that was working previously. So some new bugs will be fixed, some old bugs will be fixed, some bugs that was created just in old thigs will be fixed, and net result is: we wind up with more bugs overall. Introducing new features before any decent bugfix cleanup is grave mistake.
