Ok i'm going to start out of order but i'll keep it short and to the point.

Ultimate Beast/Mega Titan; these things take 4x2 squares (2 z levels high, 4 square levels).  These are the rarest, and can not enter your fort unless you have a big enough entrance (note some can crawl which lowers them to 1 z, but they go much slower).  These MUST BE DEFEATED WITH SIEGE WEAPONS.  Yep, so when you are gettin late in the game and realize uh oh i could be attacked by one of these; it'll be time to make up wall after wall (walls slow them down as they destroy them) and you just have to get like 3 ballistics ready to constantly fire at them.  If you take out there legs, or they are crawling; then melee can attack them.  until then dwarfs get instant KO stepped on.  Also archers can help attack too; but ballistics are really required to win this fight.  BTW ballistics don't have to be made from cotton candy but dwarf equipment to really matter should be.  Also when a MT/UB spawns they are peaceful, they are just on a set path.

Say they spawn at the south end, a random point on the WEST,EAST, or NORTH end will be created as there end spot.  if you are unlucky and they are walkin through your fortress then good luck :D otherwise they may just walk by if you leave them be (as in you don't have above ground fortress just a lil hole in the ground.)

3. Heaven/Death Angels, building upwards to 100z levels will pierce the clouds; and once you pierce the clouds in the same way you find a cavern, you will find a floating cities.  they will ignore you until you pierce these clouds, once you do same thing as going to clown college will happen.  Note that there is cotton candy weapons and armor waiting to be grabbed by dwarfs, also other rare items that haven't even been thought up yet!

1.  Alchemy/dwarf wizardry; now whether or not a game with hell is considered realistic; we can go by one or the other.  But same end results (some what).  Alchemy requires ingredients to cast it's spells, where as wizardry will fatigue a dwarf (as they gain higher skill level in magic/wizardry they don't tire as easy).  Common spells such as fires which starts fires to attack thy elves with.  also create water/ and move earth which would be channeling or creating ramps from a distance so you can do those tricky traps that would otherwise kill your dwarf.  Also using a study from chairs/thrones and/or adding the item bookshelf would be where they can train at.  Also they would require a new workshop which is alchemist chemlab, or wizard school :D.  So main point isn't to cast magic in battle, but to get a few cool tricks for more !fun!

Guys you forgot the sun dwarfs' our greatest trade export.  Bones of our slayed enemies :D  you can make armor, crafts, couple weapons, and decorate with bone!

Also if it gets boring without invasions (i know i usually don't start even having my first one till i get 80+) you may dig down a tunnel into caverns for some fighting there.  The main thing with this play style is that your dwarfs live above ground.  But yeah, hardcore men trade for what they can't get :D

I'm still figuring that out, pissing them off works the best.  Seize there items all of them, and kill if they fight back; but i believe you need to let at least 1 run away for them to find out you did it.

Dunno for sure how it works...

I been figuring out the adv. map gen, and perfectworld df.  I been making 100+ titan/megabeast/semimegabeast worlds that are mostly pure evil with some good spots.  so that way you get way more options of living where ever it is EVIL.  Also way more demon types and night creatures for you adventurers :D.

And i bit the head of a cougar, and wrestled it by shaking it around; I pulled right off and flew in an arc :D

My spear dwarf is now a biter that rips heads off animals :D

I love this game.

BTW I'm still confused about traveling around and finding cities; I use map, zoom to location, but i guess I'm still not getting it... I can get on the same square in fast travel but have a hard time finding it after that.

and the damn boogie men keep coming!

Yeah elephants never fight back when i had then; so i captured and trained them into war elephants.

BTW if i edit them, if i just take of benigh, will that mean they are peaceful until a dwarf attacks them? i don't want to make them crazy hard; just that 1 will defend itself at least if a hunter attacks it.  I mean i read boat murdered, sounds like fun :D; but I just prefer they be peaceful, but if attacked it will defend itself; other elephants ignore or run away.  otherwise what's the closest setting to this? I imagine I'd probably only be able to make them peaceful but if attacked they will all join in.  if so will they go after my fortress next or forget?

not to hijack... but while we are on the subject, when you have war dogs, and war elephants; and you want to give a dwarf war pets; is there a way to specify what they get? as it is now it's seems to be what you last trained i believe.

BTW for people asking about traps and mechanisms; then play the A style :D

Everyone else, do what i'm doing

Make the largest barbaric Bone equipped army ever; only using weapons of who they killed.  (if dwarf b wrestlings goblin with iron short sword, that is now his weapon; you just have to check with 'view' before hand and then give weapons when you check the kill list, later on I stop doing this when things get to complicated.

Also build your tower UPWARDS to the heavens; your kingdon i mean; it doesn't have to be huge and on 1 floor; it's a different play style going up.

that's why if it's your first time then do some mining for rocks; but once you got it down then make it to where you have to trade for your stuff.

honestly the best part is makin war dogs > over traps, and when stuff starts dying makin tons of bone crafts/weapons/armor :D.

you'll also get a lot of free equipment from goblins.

TIP/RULE
now no matter which choice you go with; you may dig a basement for PILES only; this will free up a lot of room up top.  also i reccomend you place a stairway connecting each pile and having the piles be under the workshop they correspond too.  This will help speed things up big time.  BTW only 1 basement :D

oh yeah and post pictures when you got your castle going :D i'll be starting this today as i ran out of time last night :D.  I did just lose 120+ dwarf fortress with cotton candy weapons and steel army (35+ in my army). And i had loads of legenday, i take so much time to make sure only a few dwarfs are doing each skills and no hauling so they get maxed out quick; while all the jack of all trades do all the hauling :D.

but yeah, just lost fortress i'm still morning... twas funny I had a 12 year old child who became mayor by his own choice; i didn't elect him :D rofl!

Yes phoebes! I prefer it over Mayday only because mayday doesn't tell you water/lava levels, it just shows it as a nice picture.  If there was a way around it I probably would switch back and forth more often.

Also I am using dwarf therapist, just everything happened yesterday I made a topic about it but it was so amazing i had to share it some more :D

but yeah i had really close to those numbers.  I may be off by 5

So i've read a lot of people who played entirely underground; hell living anywhere like a glacier requires it for the most part.

Well now I want people to play ENTIRELY outside.  so pick a spot in a good climate, cause trees are going to be your main export :D  lots of fun to be had if you set the advance map gen to have a lot more civilizations cause you will be going to war with all the elves :D

ok so i'll be startin my embark tonight on my same map that i have customized (small 66x66 region if anyone wants it; has 80+ mega/semimega/titans and boost in demon count, also it's way more evil then good :D)  Though i won't be in an evil area unless is has abundant amount of trees ( terrifying and sinister places are fun, i don't like haunted cause that just means skeletons which aren't that interesting... cept for bone arrows :D).

Tips!
-everything is outside, cut some trees down quick and put up a wood wall to stay safe; all buildings, rooms, homes outside.  when you complete your first wall make a stair case next to it so you can start putting in a floor and then wall that up and so forth.  instead of going 10 levels down with rooms; you'll have a castle :D
-When traders come everything is fair game, trade with them and get everything you could only from below.
-Bone makes for good arrows, and a master crafts dwarf at bone carving can make bone armor equivalent to iron.
-Kill goblins for more stuff :D

now for the rules, state if you are playing with A, B, or C; btw B is recommended for most FUN
A - you can only dig into the ground for minerals; so this is like a normal play style but NO building anything down below, you are truly only mining for materials. BTW piles in the soil is ok
B - you can only shovel aka dig into the soil, but once you hit rock you must stop, this means you can channel a moat, but again no buildings under ground, no furniture; piles are OK though
C - NO PICKS NO MINING NOT EVEN A FUCKING HOLE, no channeling either (except for basement which is PILES only. optional)
BTW this is to have !FUN! so go easy on the traps :D but hey, follow what you want

We are not living like the elves; because we are doing mass deforestation to stay alive :D and not like the humans either; we drink more :D

see the names, that's just 1 spot with 10ish dwarfs sleeping :D they are at the door way i think they were going in to feed to rest that are in the hospital.

they also got a ROT that starting infecting anyone not wearing clothing on a spot. so the children would get rotten feet; where as the animals would have their (is that the right there?) whole bodies rot

over 80+ dwarfs asleep, they will never wake up; some made it to there beds, rest just collapsed and never woke up again. this is just my top floor.  imagine this with 120 dwarfs (i don't know the exact number, but in the unit screen it be 10 resting to 1 awake).

Wait is my picture showing up? and no; this was an attack done by a forgotten beast; it had this bile extract that spread like wild fire; i have over 30 dwarfs in the hospitol that have fainted trying to help the others.

After i killed a FB and got bile into my hospitol, creating a Skin rotting miasma; i had 80+ dwarfs passed out sleeping, to sleep till they starved nothing would wake them up.  So my military that was seperate picked up some picks, and broke into Clown college to get a degree.  Needless to say we took out the first wave of shades, but the black diamond demon, oh man; 1 shot killing machines, has 4 wings, and 4 legs, and 3 tails with puncturing stingers that caused people to explode if they got stabbed with it (they excreted some shit through them).

Needless to say, at the end of the day; a dwarven child took up mayor, he was 12, he through tantrums and beat up a dog; he also would have meetings with a sleeping horse.

FUN, so much FUN

oh yeah my army was admantine weapons, steel army for comparison; all my markdwarfs were level 10 and above (14 was highest) i had 36 troops.  They could kill anything cept the demons (had 3 forgotten beast slain too, only 1 noob died from that)  also i had a decease list that was 20+ pages long before all this;  my top floor with refuse for dead monsters covered the entire screen just about :D  I have pictures in one of my threads that also show my entire people sleeping whereever they were when they got sick.

I love this game, why would i ever want a peaceful embark? the adv map i gen was based off a small map, had like 6 smb, 2 mb, and 1 titan or something; well now they are all in the 30-60's :D with way more evil spots.  I love war :D

I had an army of war elephants too that fell asleep and died, everything rotted to no more.

But by golly, a dwarven child has taken the position of mayor! he's 12 years old and throws tantrums in his free time, likes to beat up other dogs and have meetings with sleeping horse.
