DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / stone detailing mood?
« on: January 10, 2011, 11:09:28 pm »
It is the only labor which he has any skill in. He got a fey mood and went to a craftsdwarfs workshop. He grabbed a piece of stone first, so I was expecting him to become a stonecrafter, but instead it put him up to max skill in stone detailing!! Is this normal?

He made a rhyolite scepter worth 9600, and the leather he used isn't anywhere on the item.

Ok, I'll make a new fort and give this a shot. If it is successful, I'll post the results. What is it that I am trying, you ask? That's a secret.

I nominate MacGyver for the Dwarf side. Because he can kill you with duct tape, tweezers, a ball pen and an old radio.

I second this.

Blind dwarves are too valuable to put in the military. Make them miners or builders, or some other job where they might otherwise have to run from hostiles.

Have you tried setting up a burrow around your hospital and the injured dwarf? Maybe you can get someone to pick him up that way. Also, try turning off all jobs except recover wounded.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: dorms vs. rooms
« on: January 10, 2011, 02:38:19 am »
I've given up on individual rooms, except for nobles. The happy thoughts are nice, but I don't seem to have a problem with that anyways. And there is way too much micromanaging involved. Armok help you if a dwarf dies and you have to track down his room again. Besides, with dormitories, you have to spend less wood on beds. Making individual rooms for 80+ dwarves is not fun. Then again, I'm not modding raws, and I like getting more dwarves, even if it slows my FPS.

There is something I want to try, and it requires a dwarf get a fell mood.

What is the approximate happiness range for them to get it?

Do they need specific skills for a fell mood? I know they will come out either a leatherworker or bonecrafter, but I'm curious if they need one of them for the mood to happen, because in my experience, a dwarf with no moodable skills gets posessed and claims a craftsdwarf's workshop.

Do bonecrafter fell moods suffer from the disappearing materials glitch?

I just have my masons turn them into blocks constantly, for the massive tower I'm making. Blocks > rough stone.

Maybe he's a dwarf that was raised by elves.

I'd LOVE to capture it, but you can't catch them in cages, can you? Maybe I'll build a noble's room down there and lure the blob inside it, then lock the door bridge behind him.

Link an elf? That's kind of pushing it. He's not exactly dwarf material, but he's too badass to be an elf. Gorons are VERY dwarfy, though. Hell, they have electro magnets in a medieval fantasy setting. Also, lots of magma, rocks, and explosives.
