DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: What's going on in your fort?
« on: September 11, 2011, 09:25:53 am »
Usually my fortresses are pretty lax. A nice main entrance hallway thats the main vein of my fort, everything branches from that. Caravans come in with goodies and leave with different goodies. If a siege comes, a combination of traps and highly-trained dorfs chase it off. This Fortress, though.. anyone who doesn't have a military (or food production) relevant skill is drafted into the army. I'm walling up a bit of a gorge, it looks similar to Helms Deep, and I intend on building a fortress and keep similar to it. Epic will be my watchword. Terror theirs. (by theirs I mean, elf, goblin, hoooman) I just need to figure out how I'm going to pump magma through the walls..

No, no, no. Look for the green T; it's description calls it a "giant therapod."
We're therapods! Actually so are most large animals, a therapods basically: get a blob stick four limbs on it, stick some bits on the end of those limbs and hey lets chuck another blob on it and chuck stuff on it like noses and brains. Hell even birds are therapods, there hands are just fused together and snakes who's arms and legs are inside their skin... and snails... hmm lets see how many people will fall for snails  :P Then again you probably already all knew that  :(
Theropoda (theropod /ˈθɛrəpɒd/; suborder name Theropoda /θɨˈrɒpɵdə/, from Greek meaning "beast feet") is both a suborder of bipedal saurischian dinosaurs, and a clade consisting of that suborder and its descendants (including modern birds). Dinosaurs belonging to the suborder theropoda were primarily carnivorous

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Mysterious FPS Drop!
« on: September 01, 2011, 06:03:03 pm »
Personally at 40 dorfs my FPS drops to like, 10 or so.. before that everything is quick as can be. You said you did some mining before it happened, so perhaps you're reaching the point of where the amount of items in your fort are affecting your FPS

i am of the mind that DF knows when you are at your weakest and chooses that time to make shit harder.

Wait. So the magma sea decided to be in this guys first and only cavern layer, and then some adamantine decided to join the party?

Obviously giant badgers with their paws cut off and teeth knocked out. Leave them wild and laugh if they try to maim your dwarves.

...

I need someone with a Dwarven Science Degree in localized wounds.

This is a good idea.
you could get the guy who caused the eyes of his dorfs to rot out

[...]so my dwarves built magma pumps out of wood (!) and powered the whole thing with perpetual motion... take that, real world physics! So far, there's no damage and I thinkg it's pretty stable as long as there's no magma on the pumps.
I have no idea, where I went wrong, but after restarting the pump stack to fill the magma reservoir (for magma landmines), the whole thing disintegrated. The pumps deconstructed themselves and the magma that already was at the surface trickled down and right into the perpetual motion generator at -2z, completely destroying it.
Building this thing took a freaking year and now it breaks down with not apparent reason? Oh man, this is neither Fun nor fun...  :(

At least the military is restored to its former glory and even further. An armorsmith got possessed and made "Bembulmeng" - "The Mechanical Lash", an Adamantine mail shirt with several menacing spikes, but no interesting images. It now protects the captain of "The Armored Uncertainty", my elite squad which will eventually be clad completely in the lovely blue metal.
Were you using magma-safe materials for those screw pumps?

A 1800z level volcano tower

We should find that adamantine spire and have these two get married.
Or to Armok's whisker!
They're the same thing.
There has been a pretty bunch of spires, this is one that hits the top of the map  ;)
welp, now im downloading it. adamantine-clad fortress. lets take bets on how long it takes to get to 1,000,000,000 dorfbux
