Some kind of game where you had a General or something. Imagine Warband fused with Total war, but 2D, almost a colour scheme like on H;M&M 2.
Saw a let's player on youtube where he was a general with some troops and proceeded to take over towns or something. It seemed like it was only world map. Anyone?

Would that happen to be one of the games in the Dominion series?

Adventure mode, obviously. Nothing that exciting for Fortress Mode, but some of it does make me want to play FM more than I usually do. Cage a werewolf, 'breed' it with captives and nobles and such, make a werewolf arena that invaders must fight through to get to my fort. Seems good.

both arms unusable...uses a crutch (how, I don't know)

Beard.

That's the answer to everything in Dwarf Fortress life.

DF Announcements / Re: Dwarf Fortress 0.31.25 Released

Wait for it like everyone else. Toady works to achieve quality, as you might have noticed by now. It will be released when it's released, no sooner and no later.

To be honest, I hate hearing that kind of rebuttal. It doesn't make sense to say that, and the value of that kind of negative attitude, towards someone meaning no harm, is null. Besides, if he was going for a purely quality release here (in an alpha state, mind you...) then he would first improve the damn UI. That's quality improvement.

That besides, there's this thing called a smiley. You see, it looks a little like this:  :P. It means I wasn't strung-up and gung-ho about pressuring a release out of Today. I happen to agree; it's released when it's released. That kind of statement is of the same caliber as "it's in the last place you look". But how, pray tell, does that mean I can't have a wish? Must be illegal to wish for anything these days.

Just wish he'd release it and let the community find the issues for him to do the bugfixes on at this point. I feel disappointed now though, it doesn't sound like just 'finishing touches' as Threetoe put it. To me, 'finishing touches' are what you do the day before release. :P

DF Modding / Re: Graphic packs doubts

You're probably right, though at this point, even DT might complicate things unnecessarily. The only way you'll get used to it is through experimenting (and then after a bit, eventually watching peoples LPs and reading through the wiki).

EDIT: Dammit, that modify button is always right next to quote...

Or else pick up the Lazy Newb pack, which is made for someone who just began to play. It's supposedly very helpful, though when I first started playing, the game was still in 2D and I had no idea what I was doing... came back later and managed to figure it all out AFTER the Z-axis update. But I digress

Be a cult leader and only kill through your NPC allies, committing no violence yourself.
Brilliant. Of course, you'll have to kill the odd person here and there with a severed beast horn/fish.

Hmmm, I approve of this challenge. Bonus points for taking your fanatics on raids against other civilizations, and only attacking to 'punish the impure' that stray too close to your vantage point.

Do you have a garbage zone designated?

Heh, I sense a tinge of hostility coming from a small portion of the community in your direction Mr. Developer, but I for one am not among that portion, so you can just dismiss their cattle prods. They're just jealous. Most of the community is friendlier than that, as you can see.  ;D

Your game is a different game, so I'll judge it on its own merits. After all, I do enjoy the style, and the graphics + promises of easily manageable UI are tempting me to want to buy it on release. Paradox rarely publishes crap games (in my opinion), so just considering who your publisher is, is a plus for me.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

So, a few questions from me:
1) How in depth is the crafting system? Do we get to choose the materials/appearances of weapons/armor etc. or is that something that's more generalized.
2) The graphics, while nice, weren't mind-blowing by any means. Are they going to be improved? And if so, will there be low-graphics options for those of us with ancient, ancient computers (like my old Toshiba) so we can throw money at you buy and play this game?
3) Could you explain the combat system? Is it a simple RTS-esque combat deal, or is it more or less complex than that?
4) What's the extent of construction options available to us as the player? Will we be able to build tall towers as well as build giant hallways sloping down into the earth?
5) How much of it is simply done by us (as seen in the trailer when placing what I guess was tile) and how much do 'builder' dwarves have to do themselves?
6) Will there be food/water/booze management in the forms of farming and/or trading?
7) Will there be any 'outside forces' other than the things living in the deep hinted at so far? (Such as invading goblins, besieging dragons, etc.)

Also, random sidenote: a previous poster's idea about a cyberpunk sim. Without dwarves, mind you. Would be amazing. Just saying. You should make that your next project. :P

DF Suggestions / Re: spells and a tutorial

As far as magic is concerned, we're already getting curses and necromancy next release, so... for the time-being, we're stuck with at least that much. Not that I'm complaining.

I don't see why windows users don't run the linux emulator deal that was put on the Cataclysm forums... so much easier with no fuss about windows bugs and such.
