DF Suggestions / Re: Option for Skill-less(Peasant) Migrants Only.
« on: June 27, 2011, 03:11:31 pm »
It'd certainly make things cleaner and more challenging.

Yes.

I actually agree with this suggestion; it would be a nice option for those that prefer the challenge.  Also it would prevent me from doing what I tend to do: I tend to hold off on starting a particular industry until a migrant with some decent skill in that job shows up, rather than start training one from scratch only to have a better replacement show up later.

Exactly.

Maybe make it so you can request more Dwarves, in which case it goes to a screen sorta like the one where you set a Dwarf's skills in the Embark screen. Depending on certain conditions, you have a certain amount of points with which "buy" more Dwarves, and to give them skills. Unskilled Peasants are the cheapest, whereas putting points into their skills means less points for more Dwarves etc.

That was another possible idea, but I think that one might have been covered by some of the other alternative migrant suggestions.

EDIT: Yep I'm retarded.

But other than that, I'm loving this.

DF Suggestions / Option for Skill-less(Peasant) Migrants Only.
« on: June 26, 2011, 02:32:25 pm »
Alright I searched around, couldn't find any suggestions for such a thing, somewhat related ideas but nothing specifically pertaining to this, and this has been arisen in modding before and as of currently it seems it's impossible to do.

So I am going to make the suggestion here, as it's something I would certainly like, to enable an option that would make incoming dwarves, all skill-less, or Peasants only, to migrate to your fortress.

This is a rather minor need you could say, there are indeed more important things to implement, but I know I'm not alone when I OCD over the fact that I have my embark squad set up to certain needs, and when migrants come, they have their random skill sets, level 13 fishers, level 8 gem setters, so and so on. It almost bugs me that I could just instead make them whatever I want them to be as if they were talent-less peasants but then that would be a waste of their already superior skill set, or the idea that I would rather like to have to actually train all the new people, so I couldn't just instantly get this legendary axeman from out of nowhere all of a sudden or such. I would like to MAKE that legendary axeman, not just receive it. I want to put the effort into molding these people, and not be spoiled.

I am sure this wouldn't be very hard to implement as well, however I could be horribly wrong.

I have probably summed this up in a terrible way, and I've never made a suggestion before even though I have quite a few ideas, so tell me what you think.

The Strange quality was introduced alongside the Uber update, available through unboxing a series 19 and onward crate. They have a kill count that shows the total amount of kills obtained with the weapon. The items will have their name changed dependant on how many kills the weapon has. For instance, after getting ten kills the gun will change from 'Strange' to 'Unremarkable'.

That's pretty sick.

ANOTHER INTERESTING THING: Twitch's ultimate allows him to crit on turrets.

Also, 550 rp fo' what?

EDIT: It seems they're giving out 550 rp to anyone who's been logged between june 1st and june 23. But apparently its just for EU players? Laaaame, american servers have aways been as derpface unstable.

EDIT2: Seems its because of lulzsec's silly DDoS attack. But if it is, it'd be silly to hand it out only to eu players, since US servers suffered from it as well.

HELL NO. The US servers had problems for two days total. The EU servers have been pretty much unusable for the past 2-3 weeks. There is no comparison and you should feel bad for whining when the US servers have been completely stable outside of those two days. EU players DESERVE that compensation.

No the US servers are pretty fucking terrible, especially at night. Over the past few weeks it has been disgusting.

The problem is, now that people aren't buying the game they're going to add in more items that you have to buy. Not just the normal hats and weapons, but stupid bonuses like "Buy this and do +20% more damage!". I have been worrying about this since the Manconomy update came out, this is one of my favorite games after all.

Except everything just about has been tradeable, boxable, giftable, with the exceptions of the few uber rare items, and able to be randomly found.
Hats. 'Nuff said.

Also, how do you find items? Is it completely random? Because I'd rather not have a basic shotty from now till the day I die.

Get milestones with achievements, trade, craft, completely random find.

DF Modding / Re: Stainless Steel vs Dwarven Steel...
« on: June 23, 2011, 05:27:17 pm »
I've modded stainless steel temporarily so that it has a really low yield, but nearly unbreakable fracture.

What I noticed was that helms were largely invincible, letting only stabs through.

But mail shirts, being non rigid, well...

It went right through.

Well mail isn't supposed to prevent stabs.

It certainly helps that some admins are more willing to let silliness happen than others. As rare as I play BS12 now, if I ever see Caco on, I leave straight away. I still have a sec ban from March when he refused to believe both that I'd thought I hadn't put Sacid in my pen, when I had the damn sacid beaker in my pack, and that I'd thought it only delivered 15 units at a time.[/rant] On the other hand Wrong does all sorts of silly crap. And the music. Oh god the music!

Is Caco still on the server? I haven't been there in a little while, but I remember Caco would frequently go on ban rampages, even smacking down long time players for minor infractions. A massive portion of the ban appeals forum were from people who claimed to have been banned by him, and he would never post responses there. Often, other admins had trouble finding the reason for a ban he had laid. I remember him sec banning me for defeating the traitor in a gun fight at  one point. I honestly think he enjoys using the admin commands more than he does actually playing.

EDIT: Searched his name on the BS12 forum to see if Caco was still around, and I also remember now that back in 2010, when we were on the ring station, he used to ignore my adminhelps when I complained about being consistently beaten for no reason by security, and then send me vigorous warnings whenever I smacked a guy during an arrest.

Sounds like a complete douchebag.
