DF Modding / Dragon breeding
« on: June 25, 2012, 06:55:36 pm »
So, I just got a dragon in a 1054 year old world. My first thoughts were "Oh shit!" and "Time to train my dragon!".

Trapping it should be easy enough, since (according to the wiki) this sucker is not trapavoid. As a bonus, it's female. Hello, eggs!

My two questions are:

1: Is it possible for dragons to successfully breed through modding?
2: If so, how would I go about doing this?

EDIT: I sent my draft marksdwarf squad out to buy some time for the civvies. One birchen bolt and the damn dragon dies from brain damage. I had a brief moment of "What the f... that guy deserves a medal". Thank armok for savescumming.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Mining!
« on: June 25, 2012, 08:59:12 am »
I know how to mine, but that is not really working.

~Mining checklist~

1: Is there a dwarf with the mining labor enabled?
2: Is a pickaxe accessible by the aforementioned dwarf?
3: Has a mining location been planned using Designations > Dig > enter > move yellow cursor > enter again
3a: Is the mining location accessible by the aforementioned pick-armed dwarf?

If you said yes to all of these, you're well on your way to building a proper fortress!

If you said no, rectify the problem and re-check the list. Continue until successful mining operations begin.

PS: Ninja'd. Dammit!

was going to write angrily and at length at knutor for giving wrong or off-topic info more than once (or twice, or etc, didn't make a count, but not that many times) but decided against it
My PM works, Garath.

I wrote something, but this seemed more appropriate.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Dwarves won't equip halberd
« on: June 24, 2012, 09:54:06 pm »
To the OP, could it be some kind of weight limit? Maybe the dwarves have enough strength to use the halberd, but not pick it up and carry it along with all their clothing.

First time I hear about a weight limit. I've seen dwarves lift stones that weight well in excess of 200 kilograms, how can they not lift a halberd and clothes? Furthermore, once (due to a mistake of mine), I had a dwarf carry a cart with five boulders in it. He moved reaaaally sloooow, but he moved it nonetheless.

I didn't think there was a weight limit, either, considering you can give a dwarf enough enough armour that applying realistic physics would probably cause some kind of density collapse and create the first !!dwarf engineered star!!.

On topic, it was worth a shot. If you eliminate the possible, the only explanation must be the impossible.

I got lucky enough to have a baron who likes battle axes. :)

I once had a baron who liked spoilerite, shortswords, shields and dogs. I think that was the happiest dwarf I've ever had.

I believe that a halberd isn't a weapon that vanilla Dwarves can use not matter what size they are, because it isn't in the Dwarven entity weapon list.

I've had dwarves use longswords, two handed swords and a bunch of other weapons not on that list.

To the OP, could it be some kind of weight limit? Maybe the dwarves have enough strength to use the halberd, but not pick it up and carry it along with all their clothing.

Definitely sounds like a loyalty cascade.

It might have been dwarven liaison with elf guards, but I'm not sure if that's possible.

758
I've seen dwarves with more than 25 bolts each, so I like to give assign 500 bolts just to be sure.

The only problems I've had are when I danger room the squads so much that smacking an enemy with their wooden crossbows do more damage than a ballista bolt.

The waterwheel has to be aligned properly based on the flow of the water, either east-west o north-south.

Also, they have to be over the water, not next to it. You'll need to build a gear assembly or axle to support its weight, then build the waterwheel floating in mid air above your river.

All the vampires I have in the current version have no thoughts other than being content or having a mandate fulfilled/failed.

Man, if this guy keeps using purple it's going to get really annoying for me, since I use the same theme he does.

That moment you realise you're supporting the enemy.

SAN is a Call of Cthulhu stat. It's basically psychological damage.

The forgotten beast Urist Mcnasty has arrived! Beware his vicious rage and poisonous sting!

Urist Mcdorf is struck by the flying *yo mamma insult*!
Urist Mcdorf takes 101 points of SAN damage!
Urist Mcdorf passes out from the pain
Urist Mcdorf stands up
Urist Mcdorf turns into Urist Mcthreefriesshortofahappymeal!

Urist Mcthreefriesshortofahappymeal is stricken by melancholy

Fortunately for me, my Lappy Toppy has a built in FPS cap that seldom exceeds that by the time I pass 50 - 60 Dorfs.

You poor, poor man.

I usually just dig into the local mountainside and then block it with a raising drawbridge. If an invading force comes, activate your burrow, wait for your dorfs to get inside, then raise the bridge and wait a season or two for the gobbos/hippies/humans/waves of undead to leave.

Also, focus on crossbowdwarves. Melee is far too risky and expensive, but skilled archers can annihilate an enemy force with extreme ease and no casualties.

You might want to check out the defense guide. It has some useful tips for, well, defense.

You have the forums set to white and blue, we have the forums set to black and grey. It's easy for you to read, it's a pain in the ass for us to look at. Couldn't you just leave your text white or change it to something other than purple?
