Ummm can they shoot through Fortifications?

Have a 6 x 3 room one empty row with the spider cage, one row of fortications then a row of floodgates then a couple of empty strips and a leased animal.

Gives webbing a chance to spread out more so you get more of it, you can drop the floodgates to stop the interupting and you never have to worry about them breaking out.

Anyone know if that would work? Never captured GCS myself but makes sense in my head!

Don't think so - from what I hear, the GCS needs to be able to path to the target befor it will target it for a webbing, so while they'd probably shoot through fortifications, they'd have to have a walkable path to the target befor they actually would.

Still, might be worth seeing if the GCS will linger and lob webs through fortifications rather than run off in the other direction, down the twisting hundred-plus tile(complete with recapture cage trap) path to the chained critter.

So, yeah, my most recent fort's first two artifacts were turtle bone bins, the first such things I've ever seen. So I'm thinking that's pretty cool; maybe I can use them to store my future artifacts, even, tho I generally rather binless artifact storage, with each in a little alcove in my treasure vault.

Except I can't get them into my artifact stockpile, because my crafts stockpile claimed them, they're filled with trade goods that can't be traded because the artifacts they're in can't be taken to the trade depot, and there's nothing I can really do, because I can't set them to be dumped where I want, as they're artifacts.

About all I can think of doing, short of dump-emptying and forbidding them in-situ, is maybe removing all my bin-type stockpiles except the artifact one, dumping the ArtiBins contents, forbidding all other bins, and hoping they end up in the right place while hauling jobs pile up, at the very least.

Ug - this seems simple enough, but micromanaging bins has never gone well for me.

But atleast this time I'm not trying to get the artifacts out of the bin.  ;D

Then I checked out my meeting hall with the well in it. Holy shit! The newly dammed brook had begun to replace its pressure into the well, which was overflowing and filling my meeting hall, and spreading beyond it through the fort.

This is why I make excessive use of doors.

Afterall, you never can tell with Dwarves.  ;)

Hmm, this topic is making me want to start a bandit fortress: a small band of, er, bandits, setting up their lair deep in the wilderness and kidnapping innocent travellers who happen by. They would throw the newcomers in the arena with some beast; those who survived would get to join the gang, the others, well, we need some way to buy food.

I've been tempted to try that myself, now that roads are in - find a river crossing and set up a little "toll fort" around the bridge, could even use drawbridges/etc. to force the caravan to enter on one side and leave on the other, following the road, by only providing one viable path to follow.  ;D

Of course, if you want to be nice, it's a good setup for a dwarfy inn and trading post.

Just look at the game's title - we are, each of us, the faces of Armok, and the Dwarves our willing slaves.

The Dwarves do what we tell them because we are that greatest, wisest of beings, if a little fickle and unpredictable(but then, what is a God if not beyond mortal understanding?), bringing not just great risk, but also the promise of phenominal reward.

And as with all religons, you have those even amoungst the most faithful who grow, at times, disinterested, missinterpretritive, or whom in their ignorance start to resent their master, maybe even think they know better, who start disobeying, or even issuing mandates to their fellows, be damned the Master's plans, maybe even claiming their own selfish wants to be His Will - afterall, Armok has almost no direct influence in the world, doesn't he?

Tho I do be recallin' some ol' misshaps others 'ave regailed us with, o' creating zero-degree critter skin that 'appens to be 'avin' a likewise boinin' point, an' th' super-cold 'steam' that be flash-freezin' his butcher.

Ye may have better luck askin' in t' actual mod forum, 'owever.

Lava will flow until its entire surface is even. If you break the surface with obstructions (e.g. by making an enclosed tunnel) then you'll get two separate surfaces, each flat. So as long as your hole is connected to the volcano without any ceilings, it'll eventually have the same altitude as the caldera.

Be recalling, tho, that magma be "chunky" and nae flow up save fer in yer magma pipes.

Nae be lookin' like 'at matters 'ere, but tis best ta be clarifyin' fer future reference.
