THANKYOU!

...unfortunatly, it doesn't seem to work.   :(  I keep getting an "application configuration is incorrect" error.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Seeking Utility: Water creation/rewall with ice
« on: November 27, 2007, 07:35:00 am »
So, yeah. I have a good fort going on a great map, with legendary armour and weaponsmiths and lots of steel to be had.

'cept all the ponds dried up. Then a Titan came, killed a few dwarves, and wounded twice that. In the end, a tenth of my population died, mainly of thirst.

Now I can start mass producing double-plus sweet arms and armour, but can't build a melee army without eventually losing most of the conscripts to training accidents.

So I'm wondering if there's any tool out there that lets you add water to a map? Or if that's too hard, maybe one that just lets you rewall like the old tool, but with ice? Then let it melt, or drop it, so you have water?

Also, masterwork copper bolts: bad idea, or really bad idea?

To say nothing of how utterly lethal a thrown peanuts can be!

You might as well be passing the gobo a crossbow!

It doesn't matter how you do it - they only care about the value of what they leave the map with VS what they came with.

Tho I don't think Dwarves will attack you for exploiting/executing their caravans, so you should be safe with them. Not going to help your immigration, tho.

Although implementation would likely have issues with how you don't always have access to the same selection of goods from the starting screen(curse my lack of bauxite!), especially if playing different races.

Wait, building-destroyers can't go through walls? Sweet.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Bags of sand and seeds
« on: March 17, 2008, 01:37:00 am »
What I did last game was to keep a sand/empty bag stockpile near my forges, well away from anywhere a seed might be, then when producing glass queue up gather sand such that the bags are refilled as quickly as possible - glass production ran on repeat for the life of the fort without issue.

As for caring for tame animals, this is something that will probably become an issue for me. I love cats, so all my fortresses start with three kittens at minimum. Of course, they are multiplying (I thought kittens were cats, but right now, they sound more like rabbits (^_^;; ). They may become a problem for the game slowing it down, but I don't even want to consider messing around with them. And no, I will not put them in a cage or on a leash - you don't do that to a cat.

You can always cage them for transport, then trade them away.

The answer here is massively parallel production, especially if he has magma.

You can still stick any number of animals into a cage, if traffic is your concern.

The aproach to your fort is a steep-walled valley, that dead-ends at a cliff into magma, save for a long, one-tile wide steel bridge, then a small equally narrow spire of rock, and another steel bridge, then your fort.

When the nasties come, you send your lone Champion to hold the spire, while a tide of magma floods in behind the enemy army once it's into the valley, forcing it forward.

Alternativly, magma-valley, but coated with cage traps; nasties get caught, then roast.

So much for the whole locked-door-in-front-of-every-lever things.  :(

Anything liable to sneak past chained war dogs?

They're not injured & resting while you have no buckets, are they?

Doesn't sound like this is the case, but it doesn't hurt to ask.
