But yes it is the norm for the Void Games. In Litany, it felt like my chitin ants couldn't go 2 ticks without being modified by someone.
No issue with modifying the blocks since they weren't for anything beyond Essence fodder, and they don't do anything otherwise.
You though, just spent all your Essence on 10 things, one of which has been appropriated by someone else for minimal cost. If half the remaining players decided to follow suit, you've wasted 10E.
Little bit naff.
Stirk: are beings created in secret as effective as if they were created publicly? Take the Prnce-Dragons DS just created; would they be weaker if they were done in secret?
