Not sure if this is technically "ownage" as such, but my character has a martial skill of 28. It should be 30, but he lost the 'Brave' trait, presumably because the game thought it would be entirely unfair if my capital county got a 150% boost (100% for the martial skill, 50% for capital) to the levy size as a result of this.

He assassinated his brother  - my previous, unwanted character, I may or may not have manufactured the attempt by giving some of the participants council posts - to ascend to the throne of the King of Norway. Has the Tough Soldier education thing, and he's a Varangian, Viking and Berserker, has been involved in 3 of the personal combat things, one disappeared into the ether, one was a draw (I was alright with that, as the other guy was my marshal, despite him having a personal combat skill of 1 versus my 5) and the other one was a victory which would have got me the 'scarred' trait, had I not already got that from the healed wound that I got in the draw. Winter specialist and No Surrender combat traits, useful in Scandinavia...

The only annoying thing is that I'm a tribal government, unreformed Pagan, so I can't change my succession rules from Elective Gavelkind, and my heir has been in my prison for about 20 years and WON'T DIE.

Honest question: Do you think SNP will lose a large number of seats/votes because of losing the referendum?

I would say no, it really depends how Westminster deals with giving new powers to Scotland.

If they do what they seem to be doing - nobody was really present in the chambers during discussions on what Scotland was getting, despite a temporary alliance between all three major party leaders during the last week or so before the referendum when they all went to Scotland saying "PLEASE DON'T LEAVE US! WE LOVE YOU!" - then I think the SNP will gain on their present 6 seats. The Labour party seem to have lost a lot of traction in Scotland, at least at Scottish parliament level, and they're the most popular party in Scotland for the British parliament. It remains to be seen if that will translate well to the British parliament, however, as the SNP got a majority in the Scottish parliament last time(despite an electoral system supposed to guard against that  :D) but, like I mentioned previously, only managed 6 seats for the British parliament.

If they give Scotland something substantial, however, it might placate some of the people who voted No because they wanted more devolution, and erode some of the votes the SNP might get. Equally so, the momentum that seems to be heading toward the SNP right now (bear in mind I live in the US, and am following this politics via online nonsense) might peter out between now and May.

The leader of the Scottish Labour party resigned recently, saying that Westminster is risking a lot if they think that because the Scottish people voted to remain a part of the UK, that nothing has changed and they don't need to give Scotland anything. I think she's right.

The Smith Commission are going to publish a paper regarding initial proposals for new powers for Scotland by this Friday, so we'll probably find out then what people think.

Cutscene death

This is mainly for support characters who you protect for some of the game, and get instant game overs when they die in-game, but they die in a cutscene anyway.

Most annoying one of which was Silent Hill 2, I believe, in which you're being chased through corridors with this woman, who dies often. Yet at the end of the set-piece, she dies in a cutscene.

Just came across this just now. How did everyone do?

I couldn't read 52 books in a year, personally. I don't know if this is because of me, or the books that I read just not really holding my attention that well. I've managed to plow through two reasonably hefty books in a day, once, but that's just because they were superb books.

I managed to not kill something at point blank range with a shotgun! With one health though.

Now I'm in hospital for a month.

I'm still kicking about, just no-one in the HC is doing anything apparently.

Like Argentina pulling the 'Falklands are ours m8'

I think they kind of have a claim there.

An island a few miles off their coast administered by a nation that isn't even in the same hemisphere as them, which is now looking for oil, one of the most amazing trade goods ever?

I'd be pissed too.

Humanitarian Committee

I feel this document could potentially form the basis of a complete resolution on the protected rights that every individual in the world should have. Hopefully enough of you agree!

General Assembly

As my proposal requires funding from us, and also a large contingent of our non-delegate staff are complaining about working for free, I think it is now important to vote on another budget. Given that we did not secure one for the previous week, and we need money, would it be possible for a temporary extension to any new budget to which we commit, for example 4 weeks instead of the 1 week we currently have? This would allow us time to amend the charter permanently, while not being bogged down every week arguing over finance.

((edit so you know what the resolution actually is for before reading it))

Addressing the Humanitarian Committee

I am in the process of writing up a draft proposal to create a resolution for international standards for elections, considering what is happening in Ulvan at the moment. My hope is that this resolution will give all national elections a sort of UA stamp of approval, as it were, and quell any discontent like we are seeing in Ulvan.

I will present it at some point tomorrow, and if anyone on this committee would like to make a suggestion as to what the resolution contains, feel free to send me a private message, through my aides.

I wouldn't say it's completely useless, but yes. Highly entertaining  8)

I don't believe that you require a colony in order to exploit someone, ambassador. Indeed, it would make intelligence agencies around the world rather redundant if they did.

As for your contention that no-one is forcing us to sell our resources, I will concede the point. Nobody is forcing our people to sell our resources below market price. Like I said, the supposed economic aid your nation provides is being funneled into the pockets of corrupt officials, encouraging them to heavily subsidise the price that Tetoni corporations pay for the resources the local populace extract from our land. There is no force involved, merely grease for the wheels.

My dear ambassador, you have made much over the fact, and it is a deeply unsettling fact I might add, that my people do not earn a great deal of money. We Zimiateons are a humble people. The average monthly wage for a government official is only 3 Avalian dollar per month, so it does not take much to convince them to turn a blind eye to corruption and fraud. Indeed, the communities working the mines can trace their lineage back through the veins that they work daily. It is not uncommon, if you visit these communities, for a prideful young man to say he is working the same vein that great-great grandfather Urist discovered so many years ago, and was mined by every male from Urist down to the man you would be conversing with. These people know little beyond the fact that mining allows them to feed their family. Some people are even paid in food, amounting to an average wage of less than Avalian dollar per month. Like the officials I mentioned before, it does not take much to encourage them to put an x on a piece of paper to say they have voted for a particular person when in reality, they genuinely don't care as long as the mine stays open and they can feed their kin. I take great offence at your implication that my people are lazy, and only complain about their lot in life. They hard-working and content, the only criticism that can be levelled at them is their great naivety.

The money Teton spends, supposedly for our benefit, is used solely to gain access to our resources at rock bottom prices. It is not used to help us grow our economy, or for the benefit of our people, but to keep the miners in their place, and the officials loyal to Teton and their ilk in their place: administering the communities, setting the prices at which our resources are sold. You complain that we don't have the ambition to make something of ourselves. I contend that you don't want us to, lest the share prices of Tetoni corporations drop a few precious points.

19095
Need I remind the delegate from Teton that they suggested sending experts to the unfortunate nation of Tyland, to provide information and knowledge one would normally have to pay for?

Evidently they also forget the history of my great nation, in which Teton, amongst others, gained almost unhindered access to our many resources through intimidation, bribery and political fudgery in order to fuel their massive manufacturing sector. Perhaps this economic aid you speak of would be better spent actually buying the resources from legitimate Zimiateons at market price, instead of being sent into the hands of corrupt local governments that they installed, who allow you significantly subsidised access to the natural resources you require for your factories, producing goods you then sell for thousands of times of the infinitesimally tiny initial cost? Then we wouldn't have to hear your tired excuses that the money "Zimiateos" receives from you is disappearing into the ether. Perhaps look in your wallet, or the annual accounts of the companies listed in the Teton stock exchange?

Tyland needs aid, and we have a duty to help them. They should not, and are not obligated to pay for anything they receive.
