A lot of people don't like the phone. Any of you considered looking for a cognitive behavioural therapy course online? Useful stuff, I can tell you.

The only unfortunate thing is it tends to need some motivation to keep at it, which can be hard to come by if there are other, underlying reasons for things.

Well, I'm in the few-years-ago camp. The closest thing my phone has to email functionality is unquestionably texts. Hooray for a 4 or so year old phone that was old when I bought it for $8.

Pfft, I got my phone for free if I bought £30 of credit for it.

It only took me about 6 months to get through that, including the month of unlimited free texts and phone calls for topping-up by £30 in the first place.

Edit: It probably would've taken longer had my then ex-girlfriend not decided to move to the country for school and restart the relationship.

I would agree with you to an extent. I have a cell phone in order to stay in touch with people, mostly through texts, but that has more to do with social anxiety than anything else. I do however have a small problem with the following:

blahblahblah... What has become of society today where you can literally sit behind a cellphone and text completely pointless and mundane things, and still think you have a social life or whatever...

I think even when you're with people you generally speak about completely pointless and mundane things (at least in terms of the 'Big Picture'  :o) so texting takes out the effort of getting to the receiver in person before they are discussed. My manager at work is the most extroverted person I've ever met, to the point where he gets on my back about wanting to read during breaks, and all he ever talks about is football (of the European variety) and sex, occasionally infused with Catholicism and Irish Republicanism.

If that's what I'm missing, long live introversion  :-X

Other Games / Re: How did you last *own*?
« on: July 25, 2011, 03:02:11 am »
I don't quite remember how I last owned (probably baseball, online, shutting someone out) but I do remember how I owned online in GTA4 on the PS3.

Can't remember the name of the mode, but basically there are two teams, cops and mafia. Cops trying to kill mafia boss, mafia protecting the boss so he can escape. I was in the cops team for this one and I believe there were 4 people on each side in this particular game. Long story short, the mafia team swam or boated it over to their escape area, which was a long, long way away from where the cop team started. I got out the car as the driver was a d-bag, got into a lime green sports car, and did some perfect driving through (albeit thin) traffic, to the area I thought they were going. Luck was with me, I arrived just as they were taking off in the helichopper, and shot them down.

I was much pleased.

The only reason I finished it was because I didn't want to have wasted the money I spent on it.

But if it was one of the worst games that you've ever played, didn't you "waste the money" you spent on it regardless of how much of it you completed?

I wasted money yes, but it would have been more wasted had I not actually spent the time playing the game, to see if it might redeem itself at some point.

Turns out I wasted my time, too.

Assassin's Creed.

Story was entirely stupid, what with Altair the best assassin in the place breaking the creed so many times it was stupid within the first 30 seconds of his appearance, and predictable to boot. Altair was not the most interesting character, and was very naive on top of that.

The guard AI was also somewhat inconsistent. They could either be complete cretins, such as when you grab one of their peers by the face and jab him in the back and he falls down they don't care, or Sherlock Holmes, you kill someone run off and then think "actually, if I go back they won't know I killed him" but no, from the manner in which I was standing they deduced that I had murdered that man not 5 minutes ago.

The game CHEATS LIKE F***. If I take the time to quietly kill a guy's guards, drop down silently behind him and then soundlessly take his life I expect to be rewarded by NOT having an entire squad of bodyguards chase me out his castle, thanks.

This whole free-roaming aspect, yes, but only if you do it in the area we want you to do it in. The whole... acrobatic arsenal thing too, far too simple, the combat was very easy too. The game was a lesson in hype.

The whole cutscene-esque thing when you approached a main target too was stupid stupid stupid. I would've quite liked to have made my escape from the crowd later in the game when I knew where the guy was going with his spiel, but no. Equally so, the first target in the game, you technically break the first part of the creed by

So many boxes. Now if only there was one for the other MGS games.
I believe under Sniper Wolf you will find The Orange.
Vulcan Raven appears to be riding in the Tank Box. He must have had more respect for Big Boss than he let on.
It took me a while to figure out that guy on the far right was Nastasha. Wow :-[.
I think one of the last times I played through MGS1 I actually forgot Nastasha was even in it.

You would think that's not much, but I tend to be very... purist? Everytime I got a new thing in MGS3 I called up SigInt or Paramedic to find out about it.

Also, quick question about Vamp in MGS2:

Other Games / Re: Sony's Bullshit
« on: June 07, 2011, 08:17:31 pm »
I think the big reason this happenedis because Sony prosecuted GeoHot, which they should have done considering the guy released the master security key for their system, which basically meant they couldn't protect against piracy anymore. Bad for business, methinks. Should've been keeping their security for everything else a bit more... formidable though. Massive failure on their part.

However, Microsoft aren't really much better. Anyone remember the RRoD? Took them at least 3 years to sort that. Great fun, forking out hundreds of *choose your currency* just for it to turn into a paperweight because it got too hot, and you didn't even have a guarantee that it was fixed when you got it back, or that it wouldn't happen with a new one.

Fine, they didn't just lose the financial details of millions of customers because of that. However, it probably cost their customers a similar amount of money overall that Sony's customers are going to lose through any fraudulent activities with their assorted financial escapades. They also didn't offer anything beyond extra customer warranty, and you were buggered if you didn't have that or had modded the system in any way.

But this is just the viewpoint of an anti-Microsoft chummer, so take it as you will.

It's sad that I can't really play the portable games, as I don't particularly want to, or can afford to, buy a PSP just to play those.  :-\

Well cry no more!

Well, that means I've just been wasting my time downloading MGS PS2 stuff for the past two days then.

I are excited, even if I have to wait another 6 months for it.

Have to say I'm very much into MGS3, what with the being able to interrogate the guards for information (and Jazz!) as well as the developement of Ocelot from poncey, meowing near-effiminate unpleasantness to zomgthisguyissocoollol.

MGS4 is also probably the only game that has made me cry. Or at least it would have, had I not been SCREWING MY SHOULDERS SPAMMING TRIANGLE (!)

A vile force of Greeks has arrived!

Hector, Trojan prince is fighting!
Achilles strikes hector in the chest with a +Wooden spear+, piercing the armor and penetrating the chest!!
Hector doubles over in pain!
Achilles grabs Hector in the feet with his chariot!
Hector has been struck down.

I resent that  >:(

The Roman Soldier pierces Jesus' right lower arm with the iron nail, tearing the muscle and shattering the bone!

The Roman Soldier pierces Jesus' right foot with the iron nail, tearing the muscle and shattering the bone!
The Roman Soldier pierces Jesus in the lower body with the bronze spear, tearing the guts!

Jesus has starved to death

My mother would not be proud.

Also, I imagine there will be announcements for raising the dead in the next release, so we might add this in 3 days or so...
