Mafia / Re: Banter Thread

There was a Secret Hitler game in FG&RP a while ago but it died out.

It is more of a mafia game though.

On this page if you search “s-300” it’ll get to the part where there’s a picture.

You may have to go to page 2 ‘cause it was right at the bottom of page 1 when I just checked.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

That’s the image, basically in a section when three experts think it’s an s-300 missile, so it could have come from either side (it’s a surface-to-air missile that Ukraine uses to shoot down cruise missiles, while Russia apparently uses it for ground strikes) until they figure out more.

Bugger Lugs is apparently going to start making his announcement in about 15 minutes.

Edit: no announcement yet but he has filed paperwork to run for president.

What makes you think the engineers have any interest in fixing that “problem”? If it breaks you have to buy a new one.

Bulldogs are another special one ‘cause they have trouble mating and can’t give birth naturally because the puppies’ heads are too big.

Apparently that fiscal black hole can disappear by doing something like changing the way you process the data, rather than EVERYONE PAY MORE TAXES AND CUT CUT CUT THE SPENDING.

Breeders won’t do that though, else these problems wouldn’t occur. They’re either getting many pennies for selling purebred animals, or “prestige” from dog shows, which translates to pennies ‘cause now they have prize winning animals to breed.

Fake edit: Christ that was harder to find than I thought. Robert Schaible was a geneticist who bred Dalmatians, and among the various health issues was high uric acid, potentially fatal in that it can cause crystals to form in the urine and if they aren’t passed or otherwise removed, it is bad juju

He started a breeding project in 1973, breeding a Dalmatian with an English Pointer in order to get a gene to bring the uric acid levels down to normal.

Long story short, despite the project successfully reintroducing the gene into Dalmatians, it took 14 generations and almost four decades before the breed was allowed to be registered as a Dalmatian (with an asterisk!) by the American Kennel Club and UK Kennel Club, much to the chagrin of the British Dalmatian Club.

Related to that chagrin, while I am loathe to promote any type of dog show nonsense, as a consequence of the above, a descendant after 15 generations of Schaible’a project was allowed to compete in UK dog shows, eventually allowed to compete at Crufts (this is like… super top dog show in Britain, often televised) which, despite the dog being 99%+ Dalmatian, upset these fine, upstanding citizens, who evidently prefer their doggies to be prone to potentially deadly issues instead of, you know, not.

TL;DR So yeah. Breeders these days prefer breeding desirous traits even if they serve no purpose beyond the aesthetic and leave the animals with horrible genetic defects.

Get a mutt, from a shelter.

"Less fortifying" being a different way of saying "Turning the family tree into a circle"

Not that modern breeders and institutions have clean hands mind, they're the ones who set the standards and continue with the inbreeding.

I vaguely remember someone from either Crufts or a breeder (probably the latter ‘cause breeders are by and large cunty) failing to understand that inbreeding a dog is the same as inbreeding people.

He was asked something along the lines of if it’s okay for a dog to breed with it’s grandchild if he would do the same. Or perhaps the passage of time has just made me think that, coupled with my bias.

Like… pure-bred animals usually have a bunch of issues. Pugs and bulldogs have breathing issues because of their faces, King Charles Spaniels tend to get horrific neurological problems because their skull is too small for their brain. Scottish Fold cats have cartilage issues because that’s why their ears are the way they are.

So yeah. If you breed animals for money you’re probably just a cunt.

Have you ever seen The Godfather?

Basically what Michael Corleone does to all the other mob bosses. Maths is brutal.

haha I am a genius

*pulls lever and entire fort floods with water drowning everyone*

One time I was pleased as punch to be making bauxite pumps to get magma from a lower level to where my workshops were.

Ended that fortress rather quickly ‘cause I put the pumps 1 z-level too high.

I'm minded of the US chucking its perfectly good evacuation helicopters off the carrier decks as they pulled out of Vietnam (for various reason - not entirely sure they didn't have more missions in them, but they certainly weren't at that time considered as more than liabilitiesanda waste of deck-space). Then there was Kabul, again the US, not so long ago.

If they were tanks awaiting (relatively) trivial repair, I could see them being taken completely out of viable recommissioning under Ukrainean hands. If they were completely Ok, beforehand, and they still had somewhere to take them then it seems stupid. Or a form of militaristic passive resistance by interpretting orders in a not-exactly-mutinous manner.

How about if they were wary of having a bridge still to cross, with relatively trundling vehickles, because of either side's ideas regarding imminent demolition? Cram tank-crews into the next available stolen minibus, get the hell outa there (or go to ground) with the last actsof a few engineers/crewmembers to be putting the stuff permanently out of commission?

...possibilites, and almost all stink of desparation of one kind or another.

Given the reports from earlier in the war of having poor supplies and such, I’d hazard a guess at it being related to that. Not enough fuel or spare parts or something, and not wanting thte equipment to fall into enemy hands.

It could be just as you suggest though, that the Russians have had enough of those poor supplies and are acting out as a consequence. If you’ve spent the better part of a year holding a city not getting enough supplies to do that, and then get told to retreat, I can’t imagine you’d be happy.

You deserve it if you play well. That’s only really an issue with town, because even if you play well, if the rest of your team suck ass you can still lose.

2053
Tric I think deserved it because nobody suspected them, and you might have just got lucky but that’s the way things go sometimes.

They suspended the verification thing recently so I imagine that was a significant push toward that.

Like I don’t really understand why you have an idea and then implement it when you haven’t ironed out issues like fake accounts being able to subscribe and impersonate someone first.

I thought Musk was meant to be good at this business thing.

Trump is announcing something big on the 15th so they don’t have much time if he is announcing his candidacy.
