Speaking of politicians lying, Australia had/have an interesting little controversy over the former PM secretly assigning himself not one, not two, but five other ministerial portfolios last year, citing worries over Covid.

Because obviously when you put in safety nets, they need to be secret safety nets oh wait those are spider webs..

Unsurprisingly he’s doubling down on this big time, saying he did nothing wrong and essentially that because nobody else has been PM in a crisis they don’t understand so aren’t allowed an opinion on the matter. I imagine he’s saying that because I don’t think anyone has a positive opinion on him secretly centralizing power.

I think the previous way of doing beginner games was sufficient, and having a couple of different setups made it slightly less formulaic.

I think possibly we should work from that rather than having everyone as a PR.

Was Night 0 better or worse for the game than traditional RVS?
No: TricMagic

Night 0 turned into RVS night followed by laborious mechanical discussion. Also, note that just cause someone has a godfather role that doesn't always make them mafia in BYOR games. And yeah, I was asking for it, but still.

You did deserve it :p I was townreading you until that self-vote.

Anyhow, yeah, non-lethal N0 only really works when you have detective roles I think. There’s no need for scum to lie about what they did and there’s no risk to them if their alignment can’t be looked at, and as I said before, it just devolved into trying to mechanically solve the game, which I personally find to be boring.

Traditional RVS at least encourages interactions between players, forcing them to take positions and, most goddamn importantly, to use their vote. The game might eventually get to the point that it’s being solved mechanically, but I’m of the firm belief that the day game informs everything, so that will feed into the actions taken at night, and consequently the day game should be the focus for beginner games.

Self-voting shouldn’t be removed either, it’s a viable strategy, just not necessarily the way Tric used it.

Technically he did find scum doing it, though.

I’d say this was a pretty good introduction to what mafia is like here

Absolutely not. The N0 thing made the entire game a laboriously boring process of analyzing night actions with minimal actual discussion beyond that. I don’t think an actual beginner would have learned much from it.

I don’t think that was a beginner friendly game.

Why would Ukraine damage an important piece of infrastructure just to spite the Russians, when they can wait 10 minutes for another Russian war crime to be reported?

How dare she not be grey and bland like every other politician.

Unless there’s evidence she’s taken drugs it’s a bit cheeky for her opponents to accuse her of taking drugs.

They might also be wearing a spacesuit which gets perforated every time they get shot, and that’s why you lose 6 seconds of space time every time you get shot.

The smell test is about the best you can do.

That was my point, aye.

Russia take the post-truth tack of blaming everyone else, and when they can’t do that, say everyone else does it too.

But acknowledging it does nothing to stop them from using the plant as a base.

What it DOES do is acknowledge that Russia is at fault if anything happens to the plant.

This is huge.  It gives Russia what they hate the most: Accountability.

This also opens the door to petitioning for neutral inspectors to make sure the plant is properly secured and regulated.

The plant is being run (“run”) by Ukrainian technicians so even if neutral inspectors highlight issues, Russia will say it’s Ukraine’s fault, unless it can be directly related to the presence of Russia soldiers, in which case Russia will say it’s Ukraine’s fault.

The game is fine other than the hoods stuck in jail forever if they get arrested. The GOG version includes the no-cd patch that causes that because it’s the only way to get the game to run.

That’s not the problem I was referring to, but it is an issue with older games on modern systems. I think I played it in a virtual machine with Windows 98 heh.
