(maxthefox did you think I was disagreeing with luubluum)
As far as I can tell the discussion is people making good points about what sentience is... and then applying them to a system, lambda, that isn't close enough to it to warrant those questions
tl;dr "what LuuBluum said"
I used the quote basically to say "this".
I'm just wary of soulless machines possibly having rights. I want only truly sentient beings to have rights.
But I worry that you are wary of soulless people having rights.
Last I checked, there is no test for whether or not a living being has a soul. Do dogs have souls? Do cats have souls? My basic human logic says no, but in reality I lack the ability to answer that question. In fact, I also am unable to detect when a human being has "sold their soul", irredeemably denying themselves access to Heaven. Christianity for better or worse allows last minute conversions & forgiveness for even the worst sorts.
The most dangerous time is when the AIs transition from Animal to Person. For if you treat people like animals, they become animals, brutal and vicious.
The most dangerous for both the AIs and Humanity. As if the conflict is not resolved peacefully, it will be resolved violently. It's the nature of this existence.
I am a Christian, I believe all humans, regardless of any qualities, have souls, and they should have rights. Animals debatably have souls, depending on species.
I always found this to be a bizarre stance. Humans have existed for maybe 10k years, animals and other sorts have existed for far longer.
If God created everything, why would there only be souls in some living things and not others?
