General Discussion / Re: The Unpopular/Controversial Ideas Thread.
« on: May 17, 2021, 08:06:08 am »
Ah, "useful words and phrases in ordinary language are wrong because of these very literal and specific interpretations of them". That's not a controversial opinion, it's a quibble about semantics dressed up to look like a thesis about the real world.

Have you ever considered studying metaphysics? I think it'd be perfect for you.

Potentially controversial opinion: it would be in the best interests of almost everyone in the region for Israel to formally annex all or most of Palestine. This is the only outcome likely to offer the citizens of Palestine any measure of peace and security.

Well… Ireland comes to mind as an example of why that’s not a good idea. Politics and religion don’t mix too well.

Equally so, Netanyahu, while likely on the way out, has expressed disdain for the Arabic parts of Israel, so it still wouldn’t do them any good.

Exploding the press isn't a very good sign, though.

No, that was pretty bad. Seems a way to "silence" people (innocents) than actually attacking terrorists. Maybe hamas like they said was in there, but wow was that a bad move even if there was the worst person ever to live inside that building. There were tons of other choices besides "lets do it like the movies and make explosions, who cares if any innocents get in the way". That was definitely worse than anything hamas has done during this little conflict.

The only reason Hamas was there was because missiles hit the building.

If missiles didn't hit the building, obviously Hamas wasn't there.

This guy gets it.

Didn't we used to have a member who specifically identified as "trap"? Maybe that was just the IRC... Curious individual. Claimed that straight men didn't exist because they'd yet to have been turned down after bringing someone home from a bar and "revealing".

What a strange belief.

No less strange than criminalizing non-heteronormative behaviour.

Don't worry, the flavor goes away in about 3 minutes.

How long does it take you to eat a chocolate bar? :o

Anyone have comments about Israel kicking Palestinians out of their homes, attacking them for protesting, then attacking a mosque because they didn't have protestors to attack anymore?
One of the Republican senators in the USA chucked a bill at the senate saying the USA ought to review all the money they send to Israel to make sure not a single dollar's being used to aid human rights abuses, but the news is sleeping on that. UK gov and shadowgov is sleeping on the Al Aqsa raid too, much to the chargrin of palestinian labour members

Ah, they've got help from the UN security council. That's why they can get away with war crimes against civilians.

No no, they gave them, like, 90 minutes to abandon their entire home life before they demolished an apartment complex because there was a Hamas office in there. No war crimes here.

It's okay to do that, there's no risk though, since it seems to be pretty much a guarantee.

You’re right George, but I think it’s time we settle down. If Archimedes really is the “mafia” like everyone is joking about then this is exactly what he wants.

For two days straight he’s been the topic of the WTF thread and if there’s one thing trolls like is attention. The bigger the flamewar the better for them. To be honest, it takes skill to be subject of conversation for this long without getting banned. I got to applaud him for that at least.

But that’s the only props I’m going to give him. Bay12 is tight-knit community and as a result, people feel comfortable showing vulnerability here while we in return feel comfortable returning emotional support. When crises are being manufactured, it’s a betrayal of that trust and makes everybody who bothered to care feel like a fool, even if it was accidental. Emotional labour is never free. People want to know that it’s going somewhere. Imagine how pissed we’d be if we found out LordBaal wasn’t actually a struggling Venezuelan.

Anyway. That’s all I’m giving to this conversation topic. If Archimedes is worried about the goodness of his name, all he has to do to clear it is to act considerately and not cause another kerfuffle for some time, and eventually there will be enough evidence to prove that this really was just the dumb mistake of a teenager.

You know you were the only one giving AW the attention, yes?

I am amazed that after all of this Archimedes is still doubling down on his trolling. Unless there is some mental illness involved here, I’m pretty sure this has all been some massive prank. The sympathy play too was just an act to get us lower our guard for that second jab.

I’m frankly disgusted.

@MethSpirit Don’t worry dude. Enemy Post has already given a proper rebuttal.

I don't know how to respond to this.

More shitposting. Duh.

Everybody is taking this far too seriously ffs.

BURN THE HERETIC

Then castrate them. Just to be sure.
I appreciate the thoroughness, but maybe burn the heretic after you castrate them. Just seems like a more linear, rational escalation.

I mean, I guess.

It would be more difficult when they’re struggling rather than crispy though.

Testimony included examples of the nonprofit organization's tax-exempt funds being used for wedding expenses, private jet travel and exotic getaways. For example, LaPierre's private travel consultant, who was paid $26,000 a month to cater to him personally, testified about how LaPierre instructed her to alter travel invoices for private jets so as to hide their true destinations.

If you’re being investigated for fraud, probably not the best idea to publicly show how you’re mis-using funds.

Probably also not a good idea to explicitly tell the court you’re wasting their time. Surely they can be punished for filing for bankruptcy when they’re not actually bankrupt, especially if done as a means of avoiding other lawsuits?

I was taking the piss about the castration, cha know. I was under the impression the CKII castration thing was a meme as it does come up an awful lot in the game. I had one character be cured of gout as a result of the procedure once.

I have been searching for a one-off comic strip Rolan7 posted ages ago in the laugh thread about it, but I can’t remember what it’s called. Ah well.

Anyhow, AW, don’t worry about it. We were all your age once, we all did stupid shit on the internet for various reasons. All part of learning how to human.
