I watched Rollerball, the remake, and it was quite horrible.

That entire night-vision sequence is summed up with the cartoon “BOING” when the van (or the bike maybe at that point) goes through the wire fence, like holy shit who okayed that as a thing that should be in the final cut?

They don’t need to do anything though. The British media go bananas over them.

The Beeb, acting like a state mouthpiece, cancelled all their programming the day he died, on all four of their TV channels (they stopped broadcasting one of them) and put on shit about Phil because everyone has to be sad he’s dead and have any interest beyond “oh, he’s dead”.

It’s ridiculous. He was married to the queen for 70+ years and I’ve learned more about him since he died than the 27 years I lived in the UK, and I have minimal interest in all this nonsense as it is.

My hope was that being thousands of miles away I’d be insulated to some extent from the incessant media coverage of “old man died”, “old dead man will be buried soon, family sad” but apparently even the US republic can’t get enough of this shit.

Phil’s funeral is apparently important enough for my local news to cover.

In fucking Wisconsin. Give me peace ffs.

It would be interesting if there was risk of him coming back to curse the earth but no, just a very old man died and now we bury him. Family drama, pomp and circumstance. There are soap operas for that shit.

Reading the transcript of his defense of his great replacement comments is just more great replacement nonsense.

He mentions black people only in relation to them wanting to leave Los Angeles but makes his own conclusions about why that is, and also says immigration reduces the power of his vote even though immigrants can’t vote until they get citizenship (BUT ILLEGALS VOTE ALL THE TIME AND STEAL ELECTIONS) though he fails to mention the same thing also happens when natural born people get old enough to vote because naturalized immigrant votes are bad in a country built on immigration.

Another day, another police killing.

This time a 13 year old boy.

It's not that it doesn't happen to white people, it's that it disproportionately happens to non-whites. If a person walk into a room of 100 people, 80 white and 20 black, and shoots 20 people, and it turns out 18 of those shot are black and 2 are white....then it's probably true that there was some racism going on there in that shooting. After 100 shootings with the same ratio, then it becomes ridculous to argue racism isn't a factor.

Other people: This argument doesn't need a devil's advocate

Me, a contrarian: But what if it's the event organisers that are racist and have placed all the black people by the door

It’s their fault for being late then, though that is of course nothing to do with the very circuitous route/obstacle course they were forced to take in order to get there.

They can legit just climb over it. You can't stop surveilling that spot just because a wall got put in it. It doesn't force people anywhere.
The legal traffic is forced to cross the border elsewhere. The surveillance software can be used with the presumption that there is no legal traffic in that area. The surveillance software can be automated to a higher degree.

If it’s legal traffic it’s already crossing at border crossings anyway, by definition.

Also, automated surveillance still requires a human to look at it and go “yes this is something that requires action” when it triggers.

That doesn’t always work.

Mathematics should never be used recreationally.

The medical benefits, on the other hand, could be hugely beneficial.

There was also the police harassing a black army lieutenant while he was in uniform, here.

At its core? It's about how as perceptions of peasants and labour changed, so too did the images (in particular negative ones) attached to them.
That actually sounds quite interesting, if terribly complex.
