Just having a car sitting outside watching the apartment would have informed them of that. Having someone following the actual target of the raid also would let them know that. The target who, by the by, was arrested the same night 10 miles away in a raid on a drug house. They knew where he was, there was no need to raid an otherwise irrelevant apartment.

Police work is hard, man, but not so hard you have to raid someone’s apartment just because they were in a relationship at some point in the past and just so happened to maintain amicable relations otherwise.

Glover was her ex, and her current boyfriend opened fire on the police because he apparently thought it was Glover breaking in.

It doesn’t sound much like Glover was welcome there. Makes you wonder quite why the police thought what they did about the place.

*confetti falls from the sky*

It was done, and in bombastic style. 2800 positive tests in one day, a new record, pushes the average number of daily positives from the last week to over 2k, and with another record 23% of tests recording positives too!

Fantastico.

I also found out the store I work at is doing Black Friday, though with the vague “not as we normally do” proviso. Hopefully that doesn’t mean BF but now with social distancing because that is not going to work.

Wisconsin is almost averaging 2000 cases for the last 7 days.

They should manage it, and that might push the average proportion of tests that come back positive above 1 in 6 too!

Turning that corner real good, Donald. Reeeaal good.

Slow news day apparently.

A 54-year old construction worker died of a heart attack the other day, and it was suspected that his licorice habit had something to do with it. He ate a bag and a half a day, apparently, and a chemical - glycyrrhizin - in black licorice (that he recently switched to) can cause a drop in potassium and increase in blood pressure, if consumed in large quantities.

There was a section on it on Good Morning America today, and I can only describe what I saw as fear-mongering. They brought up the guy dying (mentioned his habit) and had a doctor saying even in small quantities it can be a problem, especially if you’re prone to high blood pressure, and OMG it’s in other things like tea and other candy too and OMGOMGOMG it’s Halloween soon so there’s lots of this candy for sale stay safe out there folks.

5 minute section, bloody ridiculous.

Armed no-knock warrants don't normally happen to white people. And, as the officers didn't announce themselves, they were fired on in self-defense.

Kentucky AG Daniel Cameron said that there's a witness claiming that the police did identify themselves before knocking down the door:
According to an arrest report, the officers had been granted a "no-knock" warrant, allowing them to enter the property without warning.

But Mr Cameron said on Wednesday the officers had not actually served such a warrant. The attorney general said the officers' statements that they identified themselves "are corroborated by an independent witness".

Since Breonna's boyfriend (Kenneth Walker) fired upon the officers first, the police can't be charged with murder for killing Breonna Taylor in the crossfire.

So...

You have to consider a few things here.

Firstly, Kentucky. Their state senate has 38 members, 28 of which are Republican. State House has 100 members, 61 Republican.

Their national senators are Mitch McConnell, arch-conservative, and Rand Paul, libertarian conservative. Their elect 6 members to the US Congress, 5 of whom are Republican.

Their governor is democrat, but pretty much every other official is Republican, as you might imagine with a Republican dominated state legislature.

This includes the office of attorney general, an elected position.

So, with that out of the way, it's not unreasonable to expect a Republican elected official in a Republican state in a national election year in which the Republicans are hammering that law and order line to come out in favour of the police, even if they are proven to have done something wrong... which, given the city settled out of court in a wrongful death lawsuit, they most assuredly did.

Secondly, their neighbours say that the police did not announce themselves, so Walker was well within his rights to go wtf and fire, given that he is a registered firearm owner (which means he has no felony convictions) and he fired all of one time, wounding one of his attackers. They fired back, recklessly, considering, as delphonso pointed out, they fired upwards of 20 times.

I don't think they searched the house, though that's from the Beeb article Dwarfy posted that said they abandoned that idea after the shooting. Oh, they raided the apartment because it they were interested in Taylor's ex-boyfriend, who the authorities thought was receiving packages at the apartment, and Walker thought it was the ex raiding the house, which is why he fired his one shot.

This means they raided an apartment occupied by two people without criminal records, without announcing themselves, and killed one of the occupants who had the audacity to get freaked the fuck out by people breaking into his home at 1am.

Shit went wrong, but, paraphrasing LeBron James, at least her neighbour's walls are getting justice. Too bad about the lady that died though...

Is it at least local assholes most of the time, or do you get to deal with trump as a commercial subject more often than not?

Actually, even if they are largely more local, does that even help on that front?

... either way, hey, sounds like a good excuse to stop watching TV and getting a nice adblocker setup :P

Starting to get local stuff. They’re the non-attack ones. National ads significantly skew toward attack ads.

Edit: saw an ad for congress that was an attack ad before I left for work.

I live in a swing state.

The 45 minutes I watch TV for in the morning are filled with political ads, and now I get them on YT too.

How I long for the day of ads for products instead of “that man’s a cunt, vote for me!” “No, me, he’s a cunt!” “I’m fucking amazing you should vote for me.”

Yeah they filter air on the way in, but not the way out.

I notice an increasing number of people failing to understand respiration in general by wearing a mask below their nose.

Pointing out facts is not really a bias.

When one of the candidates routinely avoids, obfuscates, or outright ignores facts, yes it is.

There is no Constitutional mandate forcing private stores to serve all patrons.  However, when it comes to state and federal services, things are very different.
This seems to imply a belief that the government/law creates rights. I disagree: my view is that rights either exist or don't exist, and law can only, at best, acknowledge and enforce rights that exist, not make new ones. A law that purports to enforce a right that doesn't exist, then, is illegitimate.

In which case it all comes down to what rights you subjectively choose to call rights. There's no intrinsic reason right to sell what you own should be called a natural right but right to healthcare should not.

I have the right to have muh gun, but not to get treated if someone shoots me!

Beeb article on Scottish restrictions.

Worst case, it says she advises against car travel with mixed households, so you should be alright if you’re not planning on visiting private homes, though you’re allowed in private gardens up to 6 people from two different households, so one of you will have to stay in the car if you do that.

I tend to find I get headaches if I sleep too much or too little, drink too little fluid, if I’m tense or whatever.

Basically just existing.

Larsson was a good player.

Rather unfortunately for every other team in Scotland that wasn’t Celtic.
