Jack tarried by the door, listening to the supposed "report." Nothing he did not already know about, aside perhaps from the missing kids.

He led mama upstairs to Doak's room, and rapped politely on the door.

((He’s gone out to bother the flora))

Doctor Doak continues his studies, reading Volume 3, which had to do with drawing on mana wells directly from plant sources.

He also skims over the books, getting an idea of what each one covers:

(i) deals with properties of plants which can be used to both amplify and limit the magical potential of magic practitioners
(ii) influencing the growth, fertility and yield of plants through magical means
(iii) drawing on mana wells directly from plant sources
(iv) shaping and manipulating different plant parts to do your bidding, focus on basics every nature mage should know like entangling roots, advancing fruit development, moving branches/leafs to create cover etc
(v) advanced study, specializing in one family of plants for maximum potency, cites example of wizards who specialized in ferns, vines, orchids, evergreen trees, Phallaceae mushrooms etc
(vi) limitations of nature magic, and dangers associated with it and the potential corruption it can cause.

((Does section vi go some way toward explaining what’s happening with the corruption we saw from the tower?

What about the corrupted forest creatures?))

((Volume Six deals with disastrous application of nature magic. Plants growing too big and disturbing ecology of that environment, plants becoming aggressive, plants dying, trying to force certain unnatural processes like fruiting in winters for summer fruiting plants, that kind of stuff. And how to restrict and undo damage by such actions if they have already occurred.

Lastly, it deals with long lasting damage by particularly negligent or malicious acts of nature magic. These can leave scars in an area for generations or more. However, due to the nature of nature magic, no harm is irreversible or permanent and can be fixed, given enough time. In this case though (up to the information gleaned by village personnel and adventurers) the "corruption" is getting stronger, and is not affecting just plant life but animal as well. There is more than one branch of magic at work here, or is the result of a particularly strong magic practitioner or magical artifact.

This uncertainty is part of the reason the adventurers have been called to investigate, it's safe to say that an instructional book is unable to provide beyond rudimentary details about the corruption in the forest, the likes of which local denizens are unable to deal with.))

((I should read things properly before asking questions, ahaha.))

Doctor Doak stands up and stretches, the tendons in his neck and back popping happily.

It's one thing understanding the theory behind something, another thing entirely being able to apply it practically.

Doctor Doak goes outside and finds some plants from which to practice drawing mana wells.

You gotta take care of yourself before you can take care of other people, man.

+1

As you say, Josh, the job wasn’t doing you any good and you were being exploited. Bad juju. You shouldn’t feel bad for doing something that betters yourself as a person.

He backs out the door, looking at Flo until he is out, then hurries back to his room to resume his studies.

If nothing else, he'd learn where his newfound skills could take him.

Evidently my place of employment is being somewhat sensible.

I can take time off if I want to self-quarantine and will receive no disciplinary points (nonsense system) and I get $2 extra an hour for 3 months, though I imagine this is to make people less inclined to take time off.

I enjoyed my maths teacher reducing an equation to its simplest form one time.

I know what happened.

I'm not sure how it's Meghan Markle's fault, other than the fact she's married to Harry, and Harry used her as an excuse to gtfo.

In any event, what would you prefer that the hatred of homosexuals and homoromantics be called?

*puts on sunglasses*

Stupid.

YYYEEEAAAHHH

Edit:
But she's a black woman who broke up the royal family and is currently leading the nation's darling, Prince Harry, around by the nose.

eh?

How did she break up the royal family?

What the f-” he stands up suddenly.

The woman must have done something, there’s no way he could do magic. Unless the physical property of the world itself changes everything in it, but that doesn’t make sense and he couldn’t test it, having no way to leave yet.

He storms back to the library, testing theory number one.

What did you do to me? I did magic! I can’t be doing magic, I’m not from here!

Flo blinks confusedly at Doctor Doak.

"I didn't do anything to you, I only checked your mana reserves, which is something you had in abundance before coming here."

She crosses her arms.

"Magical ability isn't something I can just create within people at my whim, you know. Well, not for free, anyway..."

Doctor Doak narrows his eyes at her. He couldn't be sure she was telling the truth or not, but it didn't really matter.

"Well then."

He backs out the door, looking at Flo until he is out, then hurries back to his room to resume his studies.

If nothing else, he'd learn where his newfound skills could take him.

I don’t understand the argument that people will be paid more as unemployed than employed here.

There is literally a crisis going on and people are being asked to not put themselves and others at risk by doing unessential things. I have a job because I’m apparently essential (I am far from essential) but there are people who through literally no fault of their own have no income because of Covid-19. Who gives a flying fuck if they earn more being unemployed for the duration of the crisis?

So...

Necro, sure, but I don’t think it’s necessarily worth making a new thread.

Does anyone still play this?

Messing around in Alpha 11.5, seems to be a lot more playable than 11.4, at least I can live off contracts for a bit with low skill employees.

I know nothing of the more advanced parts though. Not sure how the Law skill works, nor about filing for patents or researching the various upgrades in technology. For some reason I just keep restarting the game to see how long it takes for me to start chugging out products. I am a strange one.

I also don’t really like the fact the founder is a machine, and doesn’t draw a salary.

I also haven’t played around with the new stock market much. I accidentally acquired a company and it’s products when I bought a slice of it and then got a message a year or so later saying they had put more stock up for sale. It was like 25% for less than the price I paid for my 0.8% stake, but apparently that meant I bought the company? I sold off all their IPs ‘cause I wasn’t making 2D editors.

Are hammers not in effect right now? ‘cause no lynch was technically hammered. Or does it not work for the no lynch? Or is it everyone :o

no lynch

T’be fair... well I don’t care that much to share my thoughts. Either it’s NG or one of you two win on round 1. gg.

What data are you generating with your case against me? I’ve told you I have minimal interest in the game, you don’t believe me and keep pressing me for the real reason. I keep telling you I have minimal interest in the game, you don’t believe me ad infinitum or until I get bored and tell you to fuck off and then you take me being frustrated at going round in circles as me being ultra-defensive and use that as the assertion I’m KM.

You’re expecting me to make a case on you, but that’s pre-supposing that I think you’re KM (I don’t think so, really) or you think I’m KM and that I think you’re the best mislynch (I’m not, and you’re not).

The accusation you made was explained away by me being tired and distracted. If you don’t believe that, that’s not my problem, I’m not going to reveal the super-secret hidden reason if you keep pushing me on it (hint: there isn’t one) I’ll just get fucked off, and I don’t need to be fucked off. That’s not being defensive, it’s me not wanting to go through a stupid discussion that reveals nothing about me.

Now, this feels like D1 again. You seem dead set on pushing a case on me for not giving a fuck, while you think dolores is pushing a case on NG for doing nothing. Policy lynches. What makes me the better one?

I engaged with the game on D1, I influenced the game on D1 by asking why Tric was the best lynch, and despite having nothing to go on beyond you being cagey about what happened during the night and not revealing that even though it would probably help the town, I’m around on D2 for questions because NG hasn’t shown up, half the town being silent is not interesting for us or any spectators.

I have an obligation to pay attention to the game because I’m in the game. I might not be as interested in playing as I should be, certainly nowhere near the level I would get to in games gone by... but I want to at least make the game competitive for those who do have that interest. Paying attention is the easiest way to do that. That’s was frankly all you were getting on D1 though, other than a little shallow analysis.

You suffer from the burden of proficiency, though. You posted a lot on D1, and seemed happy with a policy lynch over anything else. You questioned Tric a lot, got nowhere as expected, and then piggy backed my reasoning on IonMatrix as a better policy lynch. There didn’t seem to be any initiative in your play beyond that, even afte my “hey guys, please don’t settle on the easy Tric lynch” post.

I was voting for IonMatrix because D1 was spent exploring policy lynches, and thus there was little for me to go on regarding building a case beyond the “this policy lynch is better than that policy lynch” I came up with when asking y’all why Tric was at L-1. That “case” was my reason for the unelaborated vote change at the end of the day; I voted dolores prior to that to tie up the vote, and I didn’t want to lynch dolores, then moved it back to my preferred policy lynch because that seemed to be where things were going.

As fer cat-herding, the post I voted back to IonMatrix was at 4.15 my time. I was playing games with my cousin then, as is my wont on a Friday afternoon, I voted quickly as we were either between lobbies of whatever game we were playing at the time (probably Dead By Daylight) or he was having a cigarette, because he is a silly asthmatic. This was followed by the return of my wife from her work shortly after 5. I was spending time with her that evening as she was gone over the weekend. The posts I made here after that were when she was otherwise engaged, getting her dinner ready as she had leftovers of stuff I don’t eat for the Ameripol one, and the last post here when she was on the phone with her parents bashing out the details of what they were doing on Sunday.

It’s easier to type “tired ‘cause of cats” though.

Let’s explore the idea though. What is interesting about me paying more or less attention than you might expect?

What did you mean by me being less passionate in that last post anyway? I was willing to let it slide then because it was the end of the day and I wasn’t able to invest the time necessary to explore it, but we’ve got nothing but time now.
