General Discussion / Re: [Poi~] Poi is once again permitted (Happy thread)
« on: November 22, 2019, 02:22:16 pm »
Yesterday was a pretty crappy day at work, for various reasons, the most significant of which is having no time to do part of my job which makes things easier to do in the future, but is ridiculously time-consuming.

Today was a good day at work, and I had to buy cookies to properly say thank you to the people what helped me, ‘cause even though they normally make my working life easier, they really went beyond what I expected today.

I only worry about the cookies staying fresh ‘til tomorrow, but I think the gesture will be appreciated, at least.

I know what you meant, however I also knew you were a filthy Eurapeein

I think its most commonly ascribed to scots as a stereotype.

It’s not a stereotype though.

My colleagues at work take amusement whenever I use the word to describe something small.

Republicans benefit greatly from the EC. Until that changes, nothing will happen.

When it does, expect the Democrats to dig in their heels on changing it.

She’s either the best wingman ever or wants to see you in a more personal capacity.

I wasn’t having a bad day entirely of my own making, but then I thought of the sandwich I could have when I got home and felt better.

Not an actual sandwich, just the potential for a sandwich, because I’m home now and can’t be bothered making it.

Finally got enough of a set to actually be able to use the full set bonus and blast my way through things on Torment 10.

I also believe I have another item that will double that set bonus, and I have other sets such that I can use the partial set bonus to either bolster the full set bonus from the other one, or increase my defense so I don’t get gibbed every time I come across a particularly unpleasant group of enemies.

I'm definitely getting a waistcoat. Hadn't considered a tweed one!

Propose a threesome.
Nah m8 I'll not kink shame you though.

Also, G2 is telling me on Facebook how great it would be if I can go to the dinner. (I'm not sure whether I can get it off work).

I am actually so confused. Is she saying that because she wants me to go, or because she's trying to set me up with her mate? Hrrrrrm.

Chronic overthinking is chronic.

You’re not overthinking it, ‘cause those are two possibilities of the interaction.

Whether or not you’re going, you might want to say you would have enjoyed spending time with her, though, so she knows you want in her pants, and not G1s.

Apparently the tv show adaptation of the city watch books is gonna have Vetinari be a lady. It's like, you can't just go and adapt good material into a show, no no, you gotta make changes for whatever reason and what better way to virtue signal and at the same time shield yourself from any criticism than to gender flip a beloved character, even if it makes zero goddamn sense because it goes against a lot of the character does and how others react to that because of it.

Tho to be fair, everyone knows that old white men holding positions of great power can't really be forces for societal progression and the advancement of equality and cultural diversity. That'd just be too absurd.
But he gets married. To Lady Ramkin.
Also there is this thing about the Watch slowly being filled with people who are not human men. If the captain starts out not being a human man, it loses some of it's effect.
Then there is Night Watch, where Vimes takes the place of his mentor. And we already have a whole book about women pretending to be men.

Vetinari's the Patrician, you're thinking of Vimes.

Don't rightly see the problem with Vetinari being a lady, but I've not read the books for a long while and can't remember if there's anything in particular he does in the books that wouldn't be as equally brilliant if done by a woman.

Call me a cave man, but biologically there's only 2 genders for mammals.

There are two sexes. Gender is psychological.

Regardless, the character is assumed male because they’re a dwarf. They’re worried about coming out as female because it goes against type, among other things.

The Man will never find my buried, 30-terabyte stash of classic sitcoms and Hanna Barbera cartoons.

...Oh right, almost forgot what I came in here to mention.
South Dakota's new anti-drug campaign.

You know how 13-year-olds have a lot of stress and also money to spend to relieve that stress? 4.8% of South Dakota 9th graders admit to having used meth. I don't know why that's the stat they gave, other than adults won't admit to shit, but there it is. Having been to South Dakota, I would be surprised if less than 10% of adults are addicted. It's a combination of being a poor state, and absolutely boring. It's worst on the reservations (not-quite prisons for natives), because last I knew the 3 poorest counties in the country where all reservations in South Dakota, which is intentional.

Edit: but back to the funny parts - they are on meth, most of them.

Iduno, man, if I was 13 and was asked to admit something I’d probably have said I’ve used meth, too, or slept with everyone, or anything edgy like that.

Well, probably not. I was a good little boy.

Ewwww, imagine seeing the use of 'spin' as the default way of smoking. :-X

Also, tweed in this context is a clothing pattern. I have no idea where and when it is appropriate to wear, however. Maybe just wear what you want and dab on the haters/your fellow graduates?

I think tweed and dabbing are mutually exclusive.

When you say you’re wearing tweed, Dwarfy, like... how much, and what kind of pattern?

‘cause you won’t look stupid in tweed per se, I just think it has connotations that older folk might wear it. Like an uncle with wandering hands.

There are quite a few options actually.

But they can all be arbitrarily taken from you, too.

I don’t think it’s wise to import off-forum drama.
