Since it's Interview Season, I walked into mine this afternoon expecting... you know, normal interview questions. Instead I got unexpected philosophical questions and a cross-examination on my hobbies.
Was that good or bad? I think I personally might prefer "and what do you think the meaning of life is?" over "name a time when you worked as part of a group to obtain a set goal."
Well, therein lies the problem. The interview is to determine a person’s fit for a position, skills-wise and culture-wise, broadly speaking.
I’m not sure how your position on an abstract concept likely beyond the limits of the priorities of the position you’re applying for will inform an interviewer of those. At least the former, anyway.
Though I’m speaking as someone who has only ever applied for low-skill positions, the most recent of which I think was basically to make sure I was passable enough as a human to not drool on customers or something.
