General Discussion / Re: Things that made you go "WTF?" today o_O
« on: May 26, 2017, 02:08:19 pm »
And dudes. Let's not make selfies out to be exclusively a female sin.

Why "sin"? You're attaching the value judgement there, people who merely mention that selfies are largely a female cultural phenomena aren't the ones doing that. There's ample research data suggesting it is so, and articles from feminists describing it as a manifestation of "gender performativity".

Er, because calling most modern actions a sin invokes a playful exaggeration by likening a emergent phenomenon to a trespass frequently considered to be worthing of eternal damnation?

Similar to how I refer to people who microwave bacon as heathens. Clearly, this is an exaggeration, and thus it enables me to express my opinion in a humorous manner that can still allow people to laugh while in mutual disagreement.

You're on the internets, bro. Poe's Law is always in effect.

Also, people could be reacting in a similarly ironically excessive manner also in order to be amusing, though Reelya doesn't strike me as the type to do that.

I was imagining it was more like a shove to the ground. Body slamming seems like such a strange way to push someone.

I read somewhere, I think from a link here, that the reporter was grabbed by the neck and thrown to the ground behind Mr Misdemeanor Assault.

Edit: Eyewitness account, I guess.

I've listened to the recording, and I have to say, it did not sound at all like the reporter was "body slammed to the ground" don't get me wrong, the republican is clearly in the wrong here, but I think it is very likely that the stories have been extremely exhaggerated.

I feel inclined to ask what a reporter being bodyslammed to the ground sounds like.

I heard the recording on the BBC World Service last night, and it sounded unpleasant. Shouting, crashing, some odd grunting which may have been someone throwing punches, then the reporter saying his glasses are broken a few times, then asking the alleged Fox News journos in the room for their details.

I then heard it this morning on my local Fox affiliate, and they appeared to have edited out the crashing, grunting, and the reporter saying things so... yeah. If the journos are saying they witnessed that, while other folk under their umbrella are editing the recording, I'm not sure what to think of Fox.

[complete conjecture] I wear glasses, and it's pretty hard to make them fall off my face. If the victim was thrown with enough force for his glasses to fall off and break, he was thrown with some force.[/complete conjecture]

The Phillipines being an ally of the US probably contributes to that.

What makes you think Corbyn is wrong?

Frankly, I'm never sure in this case if I'm more horrified of the people who wants to punich a whole ethnic/religious group for the actions of one of their member, or the people who want to punish a group for the actions that one of their unborn member might take in half a century.

And not getting to move to Europe is not a punishment, Sheb. That kind of thinking really reveals how much you look down on the rest of the world.

If not a punishment, what is it?

If you had a choice rescinded because of something one of your countrymen did, someone you have no knowledge of, never met, how would you take it?

Perhaps it reveals more about what Sheb thinks about that logic than what he thinks of the rest of the world.

Perhaps we should be screening immigrants for the potential of their children committing crimes.

Mafia / Re: Games Threshold Discussion and List

I enjoyed Local Emergency Mafia, so Phantom Mafia would be high on my list. As would Mafia Marathon 2.

Not so sure about the rest since I don't know what they're all about and can't be arsed looking for that info heh.

I like the idea of smaller BMs, that would hopefully make filling them a bit easier.

If we do get rid of BMs, perhaps we can list simpler, non-bastard games in the queue as noob friendly?

I-system near me went up to 70 within the last year.

It's usually closer to the cities that people go mad and are upwards of 80 though.

A fair point, certainly, but there's more than one way to enjoy a mafia game. I personally quite like puzzling things out without a PR, so role madness games are less appealing to me. I suspect I might be in the minority for that though heh.

Newer players need to learn how the day game works somehow, and there are times when I think we are really hard on newer players in non-BM games, which must turn people off joining those kinds of games. A problem when those are the only games that are running since, like you say, BMs can take months to fill up.

I think Lenglon has the right idea, having one or two new players in a game isn't really all that great since they inevitably get killed early on as a result of not being able to provide content to the standard of more experienced players, which is frustrating for everyone.

Better to wait 'til we have enough newer players expressing an interest before having a BM.
