I try to avoid caffeine in any capacity. I was quite sensitive to it as a child though, so tend to become reliant on it if I consume too much. Love dem headaches…

Indifference is still picking a side
It's more of an anti-war stance of trying to avoid taking sides in the conflict.

As Starver said, if he wants to stay out of it, he can’t be suggesting that Ukraine should capitulate to a foreign aggressor bent on genocide.

Yeah, all these people exhaling carbon dioxide into the air, too, they should just stop taking all my oxygen.

In, because apparently I'm a mafia forum veteran with none of the skill associated with that title

You’ll be fiiiiine. You seem to think I’m good at this but in the last game I played I tunneled townies to their death and stumbled my way on to hammer a scum member, though my top two town reads were the remaining scum and hostile TP.

Hang the CEOs.

Can’t trust private enterprise to have society’s best interests at its heart, but it does allow for innovation. Infrastructure should be run by government entities - and what counts as infrastructure should be regularly evaluated - and private enterprise needs to be regulated quite a lot to discourage them from being proper dickheads to their employees and/or customers.

His products are for people who can pay for them. Is he punishing people who can’t afford them by pricing them out? Don’t be silly.

He can take a moral stand without losing money. He’s not responsible for what the Russian government decides to do about him being able to seek his products in Russia.

The other side of the coin, of course, is him punishing Ukrainians for having the audacity to defend their homes and families. Russia hasn’t been particularly discriminatory about where they shoot their missiles.

There are other ways to consume cannabis without smoking it.

Yeah, ‘cause there aren’t customers for his products anywhere else in the world. Gotta get that green, even if it means kow-towing to tinpot dictators.

Pretty sure his assertion was that Starlink was never on in the places that Ukraine are moving into and he’s only refusing to turn it on when they’re asking him to allow them to use it (conveniently not allowing them to use it to attack Russian assets) and also something about wanting to avoid escalating things to the point Russia might use nukes? Utter bollocks regardless since he wants Ukraine to basically accede to all of Russia’s demands for territory.

I don’t think it’s about engineering anymore. Elon fanboys versus Elon detractors.

Not that it’s anymore Ameripol, but when has that stopped anyone.

The just-in-time model also doesn’t help supply side issues. Trying to keep just enough stock to meet demand is fair enough if the shelf-life of a product can be measured in days or weeks, but it’s less sensible when it can be measured in decades. If anything happens to make supply stop, at any point in the chain from raw materials to the store shelf, it’s gone.

An example. I used to work in a store that sold canning supplies, basically glass jars, various powders and preservatives, things of that nature. Very few people actually bought these things though, because for years there was a shortage on lids for the jars, and that’s pretty much all anybody wanted.

That’s not going to change when the priority of executives across the land is to maximize share prices though.

I was under the impression that’s been going on for years.

I’m also under the impression the tobacco industry is generally indifferent when it comes to advertising to kids. Using the same playbook with their vaping products these days, though it’s much easier to get shiny, bright, colourful products of various flavours in cape (vape) form than it is to say, have orange FoS purée (flavoured) cigarettes with corresponding packaging.

Edit: auto-corrupt does interesting things.

She’s still at it.

Two choice quotes:

Quote
She is expected to say that communication "could have been better and the operation better honed" but also that she was unable to implement her plans because there was a "powerful force comprising the economic and political elite, corporatists, parts of the media and even a section of the Conservative parliamentary party" opposed to her ideas.

Maybe they were opposed to the ideas because they knew they wouldn’t work? Funny how that works eh.

Quote
Responding to her speech, the Liberal Democrat's deputy leader Daisy Cooper said: "Liz Truss giving a speech on economic growth is like an arsonist giving a talk on fire safety."

I consider her tenure to be surmised by the following hypothetical:

Aide: “okay Ms. Truss, this is your new ministerial phone,” *aide turns to pick up phone*

“You should use this for all offic-“ *aide turns back*

“Why is everything on fire?”

Ms Truss: “a combination of economic and political elites did it and ran away!”
