DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Dwarves - In a human city?
« on: February 18, 2012, 02:35:14 pm »
So, I started the game as a human, and I was lucky enough to start in the deveoped capital. Strangely enough, I entered a bowyers shop to buy arrows (which seems to only sell bows and crossbows), and found a group of Dwarves -

Why dwarves in a human city? I looked around, and it's mostly Dwarves - I've checked several shops and I've seen only one human, there are mostly Dwarves.

Greetings. A few things you should know:
I hated some of my previous forum games and abandoned them because I used stupid stat systems and what not. Now, this will be a more role-playish thing. Enjoy.
Keep insanity to a reasonable level.
Feel free to start a cult and die.
I'll be using a Hexographer to show you WHERE YOU ARE.
Ocean may appear on the map where land may be. Who knows what be there?
If you try travel off the end of the world you'll be eaten by Moby Dick. Get over it.

The X marks where you are. It's hard to see, because the marker is underneath the town marker. But basically, you are in a town in the north of the country you live in. The town is called Hillsly, and, incase you've forgotten what country you're in- it's Iorath, ruled by its proud king and queen. You've just reached what your culture considers to be adulthood - the age of seventeen. And you've decided it's finally time to make your mark on the world, in some way or other.

Your country is a fairly young one - but with the whole of the island colonized except for the forested south east, which is said to contain horrible monsters in the dense heart of the forest.

In your current state, you seem to have enough equipment to begin on your adventure- whether it be abroad, whether it be into the pockets of the rich, or into the heart of the terrifying forest which has resisted human colonization for centuries.

But before you seek glory, what is.. your name?

DF Modding / Need some help making a human like creature.
« on: September 05, 2011, 06:51:59 am »
Okay, I need some help making a human like creature, as said in the title. First, here are some raws.

Spoiler: The whole thing (click to show/hide)

My first question, I've added the [FLIER] tag to the winged ones, I've heard from one person that this tag does nothing. Is that true?

Second, how do I make the WHOLE body of the molten chap made of magma?

Third, will the Dragonborn melt himself with his own dragonbreath?

And on a last note, I KNOW that my adventurer won't be able to take advantage of some of the things I add, they're mainly going to be companions.

I'll probably ask more questions while I add to it.

Also, if I add IMMOLATE, will it hurt any creatures who touch the immolated creature? Will [FIREIMMUNE] mean that the creature will not be hurt while immolated?

DF Gameplay Questions / Three Little Birds
« on: August 27, 2011, 09:18:06 am »
So, I just caught three Cardinals, and I need to know some stuff about them, but first;

1) I'm doing a bit of an experiment here and seeing how well an above ground settlement can work.
2) I don't have a meeting area or much where anybody groups together.
3) The birds are tame, and available to anybody who wants them as a pet, but nobody has taken any.

Now, my questions;

1) When I let them free, will they fly away or will they stick around my settlement? I have a large map.
2) Do Dwarves need to actually like an animal to take them as a pet, or do they merely just take animals they like as pets more often?
3) Can Dwarves "like" Cardinals, considering that they are vermin?
4) Will cats attack/kill the tame birds?
5) Do Tame vermin get trapped by animal traps? I've set up animal traps by my underground farm/food stockpiles.

Thanks.

(Note that I have run a number of these, but this time I have some actual decent planning of how it will work and whatnot, so don't worry about me getting frustrated or it getting boring and it ending..)

Just Another Dwarf
A Suggestion Based Text Adventure

Hello. This game is going to work that you suggests what the character does, and then it happens. In boring periods, we will skip months until something interesting happens. We won't have hitpoints, blood, or anything like that; I'll just say "Minor/(nothing)/Serious Blood Loss", "Lightly/(nothing)/Seriously Bleeding Wound on (X) part of body", etc etc. Hopefully that should mean that deciding what happens.

This forum game is about a Dwarf, of course.

DF Modding / A Question on Bodypart Healing
« on: June 27, 2011, 12:31:09 pm »
If part of your body, a hand for example, were to evaporate, it would not regrow. However, if a part of it (the skin, etc) evaporated but not the whole hand, would it heal and would the skin come back?

I ask because I am working something which I hope will be able to spread a syndrome to all nearby creatures.

DF Modding / Going to Attempt to Make "Temple" Workshop
« on: June 12, 2011, 05:08:28 am »
Heya, I'm not that great, but I'm gonna attempt to make a workshop which lets people pray, and in return, the gods may gift you with something, on rare occasions. I have my first draft of how it will work and what you can give to one of the three gods, how likely they are to get pissed off and spread a syndrome, and how likely they are to give you something good.

Well, before I ask some questions, I'll let you know a few things;
1) I know this has been done before, but I hope to make mine unqiue. Each of the three gods will receive and give different things, and have a very small chance to punish you, most of the time if you do not bring a (decent (for one gods) offering, or if you bring one, more likely if you bring a very good one, you make get a fabulous gift (a weapon made from a very good material that your civ isn't allowed to make(godmetal)).
2) There will be three gods, the God of Wealth, the God of Wisdom, and Armok.
3) The God of Wealth will prefair it if you give "him" gold, in which case "he" will give you more hardy and useful in combat materials, which, while more useful, are worth much less. You can also give him "Godstone", a material I will mod in, for him to givew you lots of iron, gold, silver, and on very rare occasions, adamantine.
4) The God of Knowledge usually does not mind you praying for skills in things, but if you give "her" gold, "she" will reward you with a Tablet of Knowledge, that can be used in the temple for some skill.
5) Armok does not accept normal prayers. You have to give him skulls, and in return, he will give you some copper and bronze weaponry. If you gift him gold, he will give you some iron and on rare occasions steel weaponry, and even armour sometimes. If you gift him God Stone, he will give you lots of lovely steel weaponry and equipment, and on rare occasions, Godmetal equipment. That stuff that only he can make.

So now, my questions;

1) If I make something use multiple skills, will it choose to give skills to one of them, all of them, or spread them out evenly?

2) Can I make doing some reactions give more skill than others?

3) If I made Dwarves be able to butcher sentients, could I make the reaction for Armok's skulls to weapons reaction require only sentient creatures skulls?

4) If I made some type of metal not allowed to be used by Dwarves to make stuff with, would they be able to still melt equipment made out of it? Would they find a way to get it, seeing that temples would be permitted reactions?

5) Could I make workshops require living beings?

6) Could I make workships produce eggs.. that could hatch?

DF Gameplay Questions / Forbidding Eggs prevents Fertilisation?
« on: June 11, 2011, 12:51:16 pm »
I've forbidden some eggs that my chicken layed, so that they can hatch, but the mother has been sitting on it for ages, I haven't seen any of the males go over to her, and I'm beginning to suspect that forbidding the eggs means that they won't fertilise the eggs.

Are eggs not fertilised when forbidden?

Forum Games and Roleplaying / Futuristic Zombie Invasion
« on: June 08, 2011, 08:58:29 am »
You are the first zombie ever. Your mission? To bring upon a new age of gourmet brains and cheap health care.
As the president of Zombitopia, the source of the name of your news species, it is your duty to turn the whole galaxy into a huge zombie rave.

You must lead your people into a new age, of propesrity, of brains, of temperary peace and happiness.

Anyway, here's the statistics of your first planet..

Zombitopia
Population: 11B. 64% human, 31% zombie, 5% Tenticalian.
Authority: Zombie Imperium (rule disputed).
Facilities: Several hundred research facilities, mostly under zombie control. Very advanced hospitals, all under zombie control.
Policies: Currently heavy curfew, people disallowed through various checkpoints unless zombified, though free zombification is (forcefully) provided at these areas.
Current situation: Most humans in hiding, despite search parties. Many, many cities are under human control as people refuse to be perfected by zombification. Silly humans (and tenticalians, those freaky people with tentacles.)

If you require information, you can access your PERSON DATA GUIDE.

To give orders, or to view things in more detail, you can access your TATICAL OVERVIEW AND COMMAND CONSOLE.

To view other planets, solar systems, or otherwise other wordly things, you can access your LOCAL INTERSTELLAR CONSOLE. Unfortunately, during the uprising of the new zombie government, human governers deleted all records of other planets, solar systems, and other things, and zombification does make one forgetful.

What must we do now?

DF Gameplay Questions / Individual Eq and Squad Eq

Individual Eq and Squad Eq options in my barracks.
What do they mean?

I just added this to my raws.
   [ETHIC:EAT_SAPIENT_KILL:ONLY_IF_SANCTIONED]
It is for Dwarves. I'm just modding my game to become more bloodthirsty etc, and I thought that would be hilarious. In legends, will I see various dwarves eating who they kill? What will happen?

Just curious.

An extract from my steam chat logs with a friend.

Jacos Darkshine: It was night, and already some Bnozserry Berry seeds had been planted. Being fast growing plants, the most skilled farmer had estimated that in a week or so they would have berry bushes growing fillingberries for them, which would fill them for years to come, even if the berries did have a taste that was unpleasant, and even somewhat mysterious. Meanwhile, the workshops had been finished, and plenty of fishes had been prepared to be eaten. Jacos himself had enjoyed a fine meal of prepared kitten brains, with some Loflun extract, the plant known to have a stout alcoholic extract.
Frank: ^-^ Kittens :D
Jacos Darkshine: changed "growing fillingberries for them" to "growing berries for them"
Frank: Ah..
Jacos Darkshine: DO YOU GET THE REFERENCEEEEEEES?!
Frank: Nope, barely played DF ^-^
Jacos Darkshine: IT'S NOT THE DWARF FORTREEEEEEESS!
Frank: :O
Frank: Adventure mode?
Frank fails
Jacos Darkshine: I sunk so low! "Bnozserry Berry" "even if the berries did have a taste that was unpleasant, and even somewhat mysterious"
Jacos Darkshine: THE SNOZZ BERRY REFERENCES TASTE LIKE SNOZZBERRIES AND ARE CIRCLED WITH RINGS OF SHAAAAAME!
Frank cowers in fear

DF Modding / Request for Species/Civilization: Daroth
« on: May 10, 2011, 02:10:00 pm »
Heya, to be honest, I'm not very good at modding, and while I can mod a new civ and maybe make a creature live a short amount of time or live a long time, and make other changes, I really can't do that much, so I am making a request for a mod.

The Daroth are a race of humanoids that are not evil or good, but do anything to survive, even if to other creatures it may seem "evil". So, I'll give everybody some basic outlines what they should be like;

Body
Their bones should be much stronger than usual, they should be very strong, with much willpower, they should have very tough skin, which would be very hard to damage unless you had a piercing weapon. If you could find a way to make it harder to cut their head of, that would be good. They have two pairs of lungs.

Life
Now, in the book, they live forever, merely being reborn inside their "pods". Unfortunately, I don't think that could be done in Dwarf Fortress, so giving them infinite life spans, and not many childeren just like in the book should do.
About the age at which they mature, I am not sure. Don't make it too fast or long though. The Daroth should be omnivores, lest they starve in world gen.

Mental
They should have very good memory, and quite mentally strong - this should be fine to simulate their well honed and telepathic minds. The pain caused by their telepathy could be simulated by a syndrome perhaps caused by them, though I am not sure how it would be transfered; perhaps just a bite, even though it is telepathy? I am not sure what Dwarf Fortress can handle. The actual syndrome, if you put it in, should merely cause some pain; not enough for unconsiousness, just some pain. And it shouldn't last very long. For their mental traits, (compassion, anger, etc), the Daroth believe in survival and are not sympathetic, and probably do not anger easily. They seem quite cold, not very emotional.

Entity
For the entity, they should prefer plains, and though it has been a while since I read the book, I think that they settled on grass lands. They should use mainly large swords, and, once again, as I have not read the book for a while, I can not remember much about armour. Perhaps it would be best for chain mail armour for them to use. For symbols, good, evil, and things such as that should be gotten rid of. The Daroth do not appear to be religious in the book, but they might as well have a warlike religion, but they do not beleive in good or evil. So, symbols more likely for war might be suitable, although perhaps symbols that are opposite from the humans, dwarves and elves may be good to encourage war. Seeing that when they came to the world in the other book, they came through a portal in numbers, I think that they should start in the world with a fairly large population.

Thank you for reading, if you get the raws for the Daroth, it would be great. Plus, I'd love to play one in adventure mode!

DF General Discussion / What Would Urist Do?
« on: April 22, 2011, 11:25:52 am »
Basically, the answer to the above poster what a Dwarf would do in the circumstance they provided, and provide one to the below user. For example:

User 1: What would Urist do if he was hungry and saw a kitten?
User 2: Shout "Dinner!"
What would a Dwarf do if he was told to mine the last piller holding up a mountain?
User 3: Destroy it, everything will work out fine.
What would a Dwarf do if...

You get the idea, so..
What would Urist do if his pet cat died?
