Love the artwork in here, though I think Grizzlebridge's Shedim is truly terrifying enough to give even the most hardened Dwarf nightmares.WHOAH!
Anyways, here's my take on Shedim.Spoiler (click to show/hide)
well actually when you play as cave swallow man you cant fly sorry. So you guys want dwarf? I put a list here so you can chose better: of course there is elves, humans, and dwarfs and then I added: goblins, kobolds, gremlins, giants, minotaurs, cyclopes, trolls, ogres, dragons, bronze colossi, amphibian man, reptile man, serpent man, bat man, ant man, cave swallow man, and cave fish man. There is your choice.
Not sure how to do these, but Im in anyway. I will battle gators with my teeth!
I vote dwarf, but that's only because they are the greatest species there ever was.
I suggest dwarf too, since martial trances are good for getting you out of a tight spot.
Seriously, Urist McKiddo moved to my fort with his family, wondering what sort of adventures he'll go on. First thing he knows, mommy and daddy are skewered on metal spikes, and he's told he now lives in a room with three other big, sweaty dwarves that he's never met before. He lies awake at night, crying about how cruel life is, only to get a sock thrown at his head and told to shut up because Urist McMiner wants to sleep.

This day I installed it my 6 yrs old son asked me If he can have this game as well. He is barely able to read in our native language - which as all of you already know from my language skill presented here - is different from English. I thought he would not be able to play it neither this game will be fun for him for long time. First time he was only digging horizontal tunnels as long as his food was depleted and dwarwes stopped to dig :-P .. but later .... I cannot say DF is his only game. He won Starcraft 2 single player already and playing ladder with bellow average results, he won Mass Effect I and II - and few more games - but few times per every month he visits my room and asks me - "Father, Why my dwarf attack others? Or something else from DF. And then we go to his room and he learns few new tricks about DF.
Now at his 7 years he can read slow but well in native language but also he can read and understand many english words - only because of DF. If you let him to start new Fortress he can build the very basic one with storages inside, basic workshops, doors, beds, basic rooms for his dwarfs using 2 or 3 levels, mining some diamonds and store them in own made bins, create still and distile some beer to own made barels - everything by his own. None of couple recent modern games forced him to ask me about "what means word XXX" - he won his recent modern games just by Try to click icon by mouse and watch what is going to happen. Last weekend he watched me to play and asked me what is "Farm Plot" - so another step was made and he now can flood room using small underground lake and start his own farming fun.
I HAVE ACHIEVED KNOCKBACK!... On a guineafowl.
Size 1500. The hammer is size 1600 and made of iron. A blow to the body sends it flying two urists away. Progress! However, i don't know if it's contact area, size or velocity that plays the dominant role. I guess i'll just have to experiment, then. I did try kicking the bird, and it remained stationary, so i believe the weapon does play a role here.
@Urist: Maybe i should. :U
Edit: OK, speed plays a role, that's for sure. However, multiplying speed by 10 made it fly 9 urists as opposed to 2, which is a bit odd. I shall keep !!SCIENCE!!'ing.
Second edit: So apparently, the relation between your size and the weapon's minimum size matters. If you're not much bigger, don't expect a lot of knockback, but on the other hand, if you're much bigger, you can send people flying. The difference? Well, John McHammer is size 70000. If the minimum size is 10000, he can send a guineafowl several urists away. If it's 70000, he's struggling to bash it one urist away. yes i'm going to keep using urists as a measure for length
So in theory, setting minimum size really low would give a weapon significant knockback power. I MUST TEST IT.
Third edit: Correction, minimum size is irrelevant. Two-handed size, however, isn't.

All in all, very inconclusive so far.
