Woot! My first ever ascension. And in the first game of the tournament no less. I have been playing as MiFi off and on for the better part of six months, and have been getting closer and closer to a win lately. I knew it was only a matter of time, since the learning curve on MiFi is a steady and relatively quick process.
http://dobrazupa.org/morgue/datgum/morgue-datgum-20130518-015850.txtI have never played a single player roguelike before, and I'm surprised that I've developed a healthy part-time addiction to this game. It's a little disappointing that I've only started playing DCSS after it was already "solved" on a basic level. The satisfaction of winning a basic 3-runer at this point is modest imo. It didn't take much to look at how other winning MiFi's skilled up and the order they did branches in, and copy them.
Not sure how much farther I will dive into the game, as far as testing out more challenging combos. At some point I will definitely try to do a 15-runer as a MiFi - I felt like I could've gone farther in this run. I chickened out basically. Now I understand when and why to make the transition from Oka to TSO (I didn't even realize TSO could net you rN+++, for example), the importance of certain item types (resist mutation, conservation) how to better conserve potions and scrolls, how to reduce the number of turns I use, stuff like that. The next step is to get familiar with the extended branches, die some painful deaths, and take things to the next level!
