Thanks for recommending this game. I took a look at it, thought it looked amazing and bought a Wheel and Pedal without even trying it, and now I've been playing for a few days and it does in fact kick ass.

I never played World of Tanks outside of the lowest tiers (and even that only for a few days) and have only played low tier games here, but one thought I have is that the advantage that WoT gave to defenders was that they could hide and generally achieve the element of surprise, whereas in this game no such advantage exists, causing most matches to have no defenders.

I played for two days (about eight battles) and am convinced there is no longevity for me. The PvE is really dull, and though I haven't played PvP, I imagine it being pretty boring and quite time consuming. There's just no incentive to grind a game like this where you have to spend 15ish minutes for each battle when you can play a browser game like Erepublik where fighting for the day takes about 20 mouse clicks total. Ultimately the "incentives" of conquering and defending territory (and maybe doing a bit of light strategizing if you put tons of hours in and are part of the leadership) for your side are the same in March of War as they are in far less grindy and time consuming games. It's always nice to jump into a game like this at the very beginning, but this strikes me as an unimaginative Pay 2 Win failure.

I don't have a ton of experience on this topic admittedly, but the one time I got a caster deep into the game, I had almost completely run out of food and was eating kill to kill, with maybe 1-3 reserve rations at any given time. It was a combination of not knowing spells caused hunger (and thus spamming spells all the time rather than using a bit of melee) and resting for egregiously long stretches. So in the absence of any hunger-helping items/branches, I assume I'll have to adjust my play slightly to get through the game as a caster. That doesn't strike me as pointless mechanic.

On my early melee characters when I didn't realize hunger could become an issue (since it so rarely is in games) and I didn't carve up many corpses, I would run low on food then too. I learned to carve corpses for food, which is a similar action to praying over corpses for piety. Get used to doing one and you're used to doing both.

How many rations you carry versus how many you leave in your stash is a part of the inventory management game too.

Thanks for the alert, I grabbed it.

Every time someone has an extended victory in less time than it takes me to win with three runes, a small part of me cries.

GO you can move in with me/sone/chee/?datgum?

I decided not to play after all. I let your town leader know last night and said she could destroy my hearthfire. Thanks for vouching for me and getting me in. I don't know why I ever think I have the time or energy to play Haven. Pretty sure I wrote the same thing two years ago during a Bay 12 town in World 4. The game requires a lot of time and involves a lot of risk. It's a tough game to play casually. The idea of playing Haven & Hearth is just so irresistible though!

I lost my Level 20 DeFe last night a couple minutes after I said "okay, clear this dungeon level and call it a night." Ran into a crystal golem (who was grey/white; ie easy) who I could only hit with non-fire spells, so I spammed him with IMB (instead of Orb of Destruction because I figured he would go down fast) while a centaur warrior and ettin drifted towards me. Before I realized it, the centaur was in range, firing his frost bow at me, and I freaked, finally hit Haste (like 3 turns too late), didn't cast Control Teleport, and because I'm still a bit of a newb, cast Blink thinking I could at least pick the direction I blinked in, blinked even closer to my enemies, knew I was dead, randomly spammed Blink again, and took one final blow to the face. Instead of going to bed I spent the next two hours playing DeFi's trying to get to Level 8 and snipe the Combo high score (of a whopping 1031).

It may have been a matter of time as I had zero heal wound potions and no heal wound wand, but after a night of several close calls and making some real progress, to die so stupidly was quite a disappointment.

There are a lot of painful mistakes to be learned in the Level 10-14 range. In my limited experience it was probably the most difficult part of the 3-rune victory game.

Is there a way to rebind keys while playing on WebTiles? For example, I'd like to rebind "cast" to something other than 'z', since it's on the other side of the keyboard from 'o'.

Woot! My first ever ascension. And in the first game of the tournament no less. I have been playing as MiFi off and on for the better part of six months, and have been getting closer and closer to a win lately. I knew it was only a matter of time, since the learning curve on MiFi is a steady and relatively quick process.

I have never played a single player roguelike before, and I'm surprised that I've developed a healthy part-time addiction to this game. It's a little disappointing that I've only started playing DCSS after it was already "solved" on a basic level. The satisfaction of winning a basic 3-runer at this point is modest imo. It didn't take much to look at how other winning MiFi's skilled up and the order they did branches in, and copy them.

Not sure how much farther I will dive into the game, as far as testing out more challenging combos. At some point I will definitely try to do a 15-runer as a MiFi - I felt like I could've gone farther in this run. I chickened out basically. Now I understand when and why to make the transition from Oka to TSO (I didn't even realize TSO could net you rN+++, for example), the importance of certain item types (resist mutation, conservation) how to better conserve potions and scrolls, how to reduce the number of turns I use, stuff like that. The next step is to get familiar with the extended branches, die some painful deaths, and take things to the next level!

Okay, the second team is up. Please post in here if you join so I can add you to the .rc file.

Alternatively, everyone else in the thread has about 32 hours to form another clan...

I created the Bay12 Sleepyheads clan for any other late-comers that want on a team. I believe there is about 24 hours left to signup, by adding the following to your .rc file:

# TEAMCAPTAIN datgum

I'm not sure if the clan will show up on the leaderboard until someone joins, since my first game of the tournament is still in-progress.

I'm going to be playing a fair bit in the tournament and would like to signup for a team as well. I don't have any wins yet, but wouldn't be surprised if I get my first one this week!
