DF Modding / Re: Creating the Unified Plant Mod
« on: March 24, 2008, 01:53:00 am »
Na, multi season plants work... I think I have saffron growing at 3 seasons at the moment.  Its extract, although you don't get much from each plant, is worth it's weight in gold though.  This means that you really can support yourself of farming late game.  Since I only extract at the still, you can't mix it in the kitchen and make supper meals (that'd just be cheating since I figure you could hit meals in the 10k range).

Although I know saffron works, it only seems to be planted in the spring (right after the year turn-over) which means you may not be able to keep plants growing over the year change.  Post if you find out differently.

I like keeping real-world above ground plants like coffee, corn, and cabbage... so none of my plants would fit in your mod.

DF Modding / Re: Slag!
« on: March 20, 2008, 05:51:00 pm »
Sorry, I haven't spent much time modding ores...
do you have a ~75% chance of yielding one of these ores or do you have to select which you want to try and melt it down into?
A wild card ore sounds pretty sweet to cover annoying fey moods.  Did you intend for this to be recursive?  So, if you smelt 10 ores... you will get ~5 slag... of which ~3 will turn into ores and you will probably yield another slag off of those 3.

Uhhh... you see... I was playing as mice men, who are size 3.  I had to give them special equipment and all but that still get slaughtered by a kobold. So, originally you had to put a coal in but I got lazy and decided to make it "magically" give me lard so that my micemen wouldn't starve.  (If you don't have reagent's, you still get the product with only the cost of the time to make it)

Wait, what?
When I make reactions to create meat/bones/fat I just type it in without the actual creature type.  Works, but you get nameless items.  Here is one that I've been using as a backup to help out my soap trade.

[REACTION:COAL_fat1]

[NAME:make fat 1(from ore)(no fuel)]

[SMELTER]

[PRODUCT:100:5:GLOB:NO_SUBTYPE:FAT:NO_SUBTYPE]

It doesn't give it as a stack but it is an animal reaction... without a specific animal to go with it.  Change FAT to the token for tallow and glob to the right token and you can be waste deep in unnamed tallow in no time.

Wait, I've met a human deity in a pub once.  It was 38a and I was using a modded  race, but that shouldn't matter much since I was in a human town.  I tried talk with it but it wouldn't say anything... I can't remember but I think it took me into the conversation window and it just had "..." as his response to anything I asked.  I was hoping for an EPIC quest or something... but I wasn't a part of his/her cult so that may have been it.  The unit was white and I can't remember whether or not it flashed...

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: How to make a cavein?
« on: March 27, 2008, 02:40:00 am »
Just wondering, if you carve out the bottom level of the entire map then kick out the supports... after 10 min of lag, will you end up with an empty map with lots of stone on the bottom layer?

EDIT: WHAT?!?  When did cave-ins stop happening due to unsupported ceiling? (I never play with them on, so i wouldn't know)

Ok, so I have read over the wiki and the forums for an hour or so looking for help but found none.  When I start a new fortress I'm not prompted on where I want to build it.  The first two fortresses I built were in heavily wooded calm regions.  I wanted to fight the undead so I tried to create a new fortress... it automatically just sticks me in a heavily wooded snowy place.  I try again and it doesn't prompt me this time either. I download the lite version of the game and move my save and log files to the new folder.  Same problem.  Just abandon everything?    :(
