DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Axedwarves
« on: December 02, 2010, 02:56:04 pm »
Oh and, one of my dwarves got injured a long time ago. Her right foot is missing and she's been laying in a hospital bed for the past 3 years.

I have a chief medical dwarf appointed, and a hospital zone with tables, beds, and a well, but no one is going to help her.

Ah, you guys might want to put this somewhere, like the wiki.

The Goblins retreated, there ARE still Wild Animals such as Slugmen and Snailmen out there, just a lot less.

Here is a picture to show a fraction of what happened.

That is not even all of the people that died. If I were to set a large refuse stockpile and a corpse stockpile, my dwarves will spend hours cleaning up.

But uh, I have no wood to make charcoal to use for making armour for my squads, therefore, can I just wait until the Goblins retreat? I mean, I'll never run out of food/drink.

Uh, I don't want to waste my 3 logs on 3 cages which will only capture 3 goblins instead of the needed 6...

As my embark area is HUGE, couldn't I dig out to a far away place and set up a base there without the goblins knowing?

Beware. They have spies everywhere.
The Goblins will always find a way.

Well, do the Goblins retreat after a while?

Thank you for the trap idea, I'll get to that straight away. Also, another one of my dwarves became an Axedwarf, and the Goblin Pikeman punched my Clothier to death.

DF Gameplay Questions / Axedwarves
« on: December 02, 2010, 12:40:01 pm »
Hello, I recently started training my squad to be Axedwarves. They go into their Barracks and do demonstrations, all kinds of things. Yes, I give given them ALL an Iron Battle Axe, but the problem is, they just do dodging demonstrations or Individual Combat Drills. Very rarely have I seen them actually training their Axedwarf skill. They have been training for a while, and only two of my squad of 10 people are Novice Axedwarves.

Is this normal? Are they meant to train like this? Or am I doing something wrong? I need answers quickly as I'm getting ambushed by Goblins much stronger than my milita and I walled myself off so they can't reach me, but I've got a limited supply of wood. Please, help, just tell me why they aren't training their Axedwarf skill faster.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Terrible immigrant inflow
« on: December 02, 2010, 09:56:04 am »
Uh, consider yourself lucky. In my first year I got 70 migrants which all gave birth to a baby. I DID NOT APPROVE OF THEM HAVING SEX!

But still, they are called migrants, meaning what they did to get there wasn't illegal.

Ah, they've started wielding the weapons. Thanks.

Oh and one more thing before I lock this thread - if I build a hospital with beds and all the required stuff, do my dwarves instantly go and help injured dwarves to the bed? I have a single dwarf who has taken some bad injuries and I am building a hospital - or do I have to assign a task to get him dragged to the hospital?

Ah, ok.

And some of my dwarves are sparring, is that good?

Also, I have 3 iron battle axes. I added it to my custom uniform and selected that uniform for 3 dwarves (so the 3 iron battle axes are in use).

The problem is, only my militia captain seems to pick the battle axe up, I know he's picked it up because in the "equip" screen, it shows a weapon rack next to the battle axe therefore meaning he's equipped it. I can also see it in his inventory. The other dwarves with that uniform aren't picking the battle axes up...

DF Gameplay Questions / Combat Training
« on: December 02, 2010, 03:58:25 am »
I recently made a Barracks, assigned it to my chosen squad, put enough beds in it, a Weapons Rack, and it's all going well, except for one thing.

I press the "s" key for Squads, and I press "b" for my chosen squad, I press "t" to assign them to be active/training, and they gear up etc, that's all good, but when I check what they are doing using the "u" key, they are either doing an individual combat drill or waiting for a dodging demonstration. They always seem to be "waiting for a dodging demonstration".

Is this meant to happen? Are they actually training or am I doing something wrong?

Please, I am starting to get attacks and I need answers.

DF Gameplay Questions / "Fill Pond"
« on: December 01, 2010, 05:02:26 pm »
Ok, I recently built a well, and it is active with 3 units of water under it. The problem is, some of my dwarves take a bucket, go to my designated Water Source, I check their jobs, it says "Fill Pond", but they seem to stand in front of the water source until they get hungry, and I cannot stop them, even if I could, I would like to ask, is it normal for my dwarves to just be standing in front of the water source with a bucket?

It works the first time, but the second time they just stand there staring into nothing.

But how do you grow trees? Saplings...?

Also, these Shrubs are getting so annoying, I think I might have to move my base another 5 layers down...

So, they can't grow through any smooth stone but they CAN grow through clay? Ah, ok, was worrying about my bedrooms being covered in Shrubs and Tower-Caps.

Wait, you can plant trees? How? Do you need to collect the saplings or...?
