Hm, what if i was to create an underground lake using water from the aquifer? Is it still imposible to grow tower-caps?

Just a quick question, just to make sure my plans arn't wasted.

If i flood the floor above an aquifer, then drain it, it will produce a tower cap farm, right?

If not, how do i farm for tower caps in a desert map, no underground river, just lots of sand and limestone.

If you create a fort in an isolated location that only has goblins and
dwarves  No Trade

Will you still get the sheriff - etc etc
Will caravans come to inspect your fort?

Can someone explain to me, how to install a tileset, such as Herrbdog's? step by step, im not a computer wizard, so the wikki instructions sort of confuse me, anyone? Thanks..

Oh, while im at it - the cheat ajust start - how do you use it? It doesnt seem to do anything.

I dont understand this elitist mindset some of you guys possess. Boatmurdered is a perfect example, its well known in alot of fourms. I found out about DF because of that bloodline game. Its a single player - alpha stage game, and the only way to win in DF is to die in such a way you sit back in your chair and mutter out load "Wow, -that- can happen!?" Why is creating a drowning room as a defence a problem, why is turtle-power mode a problem to you guys. You all know in the end its 90% likely to be the downfall of the fort, and who here but the great toady honestly knows how to play the game? Im willing to bet, even the copperaxe fort will crumble. Dispite the player's obvious advanced understanding of the game, his going to screw up somewhere, one way or another, and all his dwarves end up getting vacumed into a weapon trapped funnel.

The games about fun, if drowning invading goblins is fun for someone, more power too them, I'd sugguest keeping chained/caged cave crocs connected to a lever in the drowning room for added gore.

If, i set say a population cap of 85 dwarves, does that include nobles? Or are nobles extra?

Im getting good, i think, but when I get two swarms of 25 odd dwarves, its just too much for me to handle. I want about 85, max, but I want that on top of nobles.

So, what is the best way to get 85 common dwarves, and then whatever nobles I am able to get?

At last. Thank you Reynard. That design is perfect. No only do i supply the bedroom needs of my dwarves, but I also have statue rooms, that provide happy thoughts to any dwarf to passes by. Estatic dwarves = non tantruming dwarves = no more forts falling apart.

Just a quick question,

If I had a hole, 4 z levels deep, with the bottom revealing the aquifier,
and I poured magma onto it,
would it..
1) allow me to get past the aquifier
and
2) Is it possible to fill the entire hole up with magma, and have the water from the aquifier dry it out? Thus allowing me to build my castle of obsidian

Or would I need to fill the hole half with water, and half with magma? or some other combination?

im a 40k and fallout fan, I love the damage crossbow's do. Dress my military up in steel plate armour, shield, crossbow, steel bolts and not many goblins get to go home.
