Well, my vampire got wounded and has been in the hospital for a while.  I was contemplating putting him in the militia and sending him to the caverns, and then close it up.  And have him explore until he gets himself killed.  Is that a good way to get ride of a vampire?

But will rain help the soil regenerate?  I have some pastures where the tiles are a muddy brown, no semblence of green is there.  I'm wondering if watering it will fix that.  Also, I'll get a huge benefits from waterfalls from the sky type thing.  I think I have a pretty neat idea on how to get it done.  Just create a grid in the sky (each waterfall falls downwards on more than 1 tile, for example, I created an artifical one next to my fort entrance that spews water over 6-8 tiles.  I figure one from the sky will prolly hit 9-15 tiles.  So I set a pressureplate on the far end of the resoviour to dump water when it's 1/7 water depth, or 7/7.  And if it does create havoc/flooding.  I'll just disable the power to the structure.  I'm hoping to clean the land, and also possibly create some trees.

I was thinking of creating a large cistern over my fort w pressure plates and floor hatches that allow water to fall and hit my soil.  Because I'm not getting any rain.  Will this allow my trampled soil to replenish (as in grow trees?)?

Lots of rock, not enough wood.  It also scares me that walking tramples my soil.

I could create wood, but rock bins and beds seem a bit more logical

What do I do?  Oh man, I screwed up my river big time by connecting it to an old reservoir.  Only way to fix it is to pump a new reservoir, but the river will always  be stagnant.  Thank god water pumps are purifier's

I noticed something.  Found my vampire using the social skills sorting.  You can't assign a vampire to your militia.  They also don't show in the units screen?  I can't find him to accuse either.  He shows up in my dorf therapist.  Name is Mebzul Itk... something, but can't find him for the life of me in any of my units screens.

I'm keeping my wealth low, but now I have 72 dorf's.  Prolly 2nd year.  I completely walled myself in (which doesn't prevent migrant vampires).  However, a dorf was completely drained of blood in the dorm.  So I know rule #1 is needing a witness, which I'm sure I have.  But what do I do now so I can send my militia after him.

I read I need a captain of the guard.  Just did that.  Then I guess I can convict them.

outpost liason was in town, tried to force my expedition leader to meet with him by assigning him to a burrow/chair.  Never met the leader there, but did in the dormitory.
