Other Games / Game, where you have to escape ?
« on: April 12, 2018, 09:28:36 am »
Does anybody know a game (roguelike or not) with some quite complex/interesting mechanics where you have to escape (e.g. cross border, to a safe place etc.)...I find this an interesting game idea but do not know any related game. I do not mean a shooter, more about a 'realistic' setup and usage of stealth.

Other Games / Cold Waters (Submarine simulator) released
« on: June 11, 2017, 01:48:40 am »
For those who do like submarine games but not so hardcore ones than Dangerous Waters, there is now http://store.steampowered.com/app/541210/Cold_Waters/ available. Actually, it is a spiritual successor of the original Sid Meiers' nuclear subsim(which is still very good) of 1988, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_Storm_Rising_(video_game).

The devs are very community-friendly and although they are only 2 people, they have relased the first beta patch after a couple of days.

So some of you know the board game Arkham Horror, I guess...is there any PC game out there with a similar 'feeling' ? No need to have the same theme but capturing a complex boardgame setting...

Can't recommend https://michaelochurch.wordpress.com/2015/06/06/why-agile-and-especially-scrum-are-terrible/ enough....nothing to add here...

General Discussion / Being overall awesome is a plus
« on: March 06, 2016, 09:27:19 am »
You know, sometimes it is quite funny reading job descriptions.

In one job description for a software developer, I've found this:
"Being overall awesome is a plus"

So, what is being overall awesome, is there a scientific description for this available to decide if I belong to this special group, lol.

Other Games / Armoured Commander

Armoured Commander is not your daily roguelike, instead you play as a tank commander in WWII....altough it is in its early development stage (alpha), it already makes fun.

Life Advice / Big meetings and being an introvert
« on: November 16, 2014, 01:02:44 pm »
So, I'm a pretty introvert. I've no problems with this usually but in my job I'm forced now to work more and more in big working groups, where people discussing and presenting stuff.

Being with several people in a room for hours (and not all are easy going) stresses me a lot....I'm very tired at the evening and my neck muscles are tense.

I do occasionally sports and that helps but of course not during the long meetings.

I think the root cause is that I always think too much....so for example does it make sense what I am saying....do the other colleagues respect me and so on....so more or less negative self-assessment.
I've read in a book about introverts that this is common in this group but I have not found good counter-measures against it, yet :-(

Have other guys here similar issues and maybe some advice ?

Other Games / slow paced roguelike / rpg
« on: November 14, 2014, 10:40:07 am »
So, lately I've fallen in love with boardgames, which you can also play solitiare (for instance Arkham Horror: http://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/15987/arkham-horror)

The main reason is, I like the slow-paced gaming....you actually see what's going on (game mechanic) and the number of game elements has to be obviously limited.

Can anybody recommend me a slow paced (turn-based) roguelike or rpg in general ? Unreal World comes into my mind, but it's just not my theme....surely it is a great game

Other Games / XCOM ...the boardgame
« on: August 14, 2014, 01:40:31 am »
FFG is currently developing a boardgame with the licensed XCOM Theme. It is solo-playable and is actually an hybrid game, since the AI and that stuff is implemented via a Web app or a tablet/smartphone app if you have such a device. Looks pretty cool and innovative to me....!

Just to satisfy my curiosity:

Is there any commercial (not for free) pure ASCII game out there? I've searched but did not found one.

General Discussion / Ender's game
« on: May 26, 2014, 12:31:50 pm »
So, I've seen the movie yesterday. On the one hand I did not like the movie that much (too much simulated battle scenes for my taste) but on the other hand I did like the story itself. Has somebody read the novel...I have read in some critics that the actor in the novel is only 6 years old, so it is more a book for children (?).

Anyways, I'd love to read a new scifi novel...maybe there are also other novels with a similar theme out there?
